I grew up surfing, a rash guard was a must anytime in a tropical location for the sun or under a wetsuit. For a few hours surfing at a CA beach it would be based on lots of factors. I can't imagine wearing one for any other reason than surfing so maybe just a t shirt?

Absolutely will wear my long sleeve rash guard at the ocean/beach and occasionally when I know I'll be at the pool all day I'll wear it part of the day.  I don't care what you ####ers think.

Columbia makes a comfortable, lightweight long sleeve T with UV protection. I have three. They are a must when I'm outdoors all day as I am so white I glow in the dark.

If you have fair skin and you are active you can get by with sunscreen for a few hours, but a long day in the sun and you are going to burn.  I wish I wore one more often when I was younger.

If I know I'm out there for the day (pool or beach)...yay.

amd no...300 bills shouldn't be wearing these much...they are tight and only accentuate how fat you are.

I have no care to be tan...would rather protect my skin.

It's made of fabric and/or treated to block damaging solar rays to protect your skin from sun damage. They have an SPF associated with them.
I bought one of these from field and stream  on sale at ****'s. Haven't worn it to the beach but certainly could.

Funny, I wear one so that other, lesser men aren't intimidated by my massive chest, rippling biceps, and rock hard abs.
Mine has a nine-pack like batman.

We always wore some sort of t shirt while Boogieboarding.  That belly rash sucks.

There are all kinds available on Amazon for $15 or less.

Oh, and I need to lose weight.

I live in Phoenix so I know sun. I've never been burned through a "normal" t-shirt. Are these things really necessary?

I wear a rash guard when I use our pool. Don't care to get a tan and it allows me to put on less sun screen. Not seeing the negative.

Jack O'Neill, pioneer of the surfing wetsuit and founder of the brand that bears his name died today at age 94.
