Ravens beat writer Mike Preston says he's seen little "acceleration" out of Willis McGahee in training camp and the preseason.

McGahee has been impressive in red-zone work, but hasn't broken a long run. He also hasn't averaged over four yards-per-carry once in his career, so there's little reason to believe he will in the Ravens' conservative attack.

McGahee has been a disappointment since he became a starting RB. Not really sure why he will supposedly set the world on fire behind the Ravens' putrid line, and in the Ravens' underwhelming offense.

" McGahee, 25, also says the knee finally started to feel fully healthy late last season, and scouts noticed. "If you'll watch some of those games, you'll see the cutting off both legs, the improved vision," says an AFC pro personnel director. "You saw a guy who was cutting, who showed burst, who showed vision. Before, he could see the cuts, but he couldn't make the cuts. Even though his runs after initial contact were pretty good, I think now you'll see what everybody thought the Bills were going to get."

......or he could average 3.8 ypc.

Willis is saving it for Cincy

He's already offered glimpses in the preseason:

Willis is going to have a career year this year
Are you serious? One play on that clip. That might be his best run of the year for all we know.
I thought the same thing after I watched it.......Don't bother with one clip.....we are lucky someone doesn't have the 30 min youtube clip of all his runs that go for his 3.8ypc.

:lmao: Really? What a suprise. He must be hurt or something, be cause he was all about burst in Buffalo.

Are they talking about this pre-season... Or, his entire career? Because, if they are talking about his entire career then that is incorrect. He did once have a kind-of long run of 57 yards.

Send Preston an email and give him a piece of your mind

Yes, maybe the Ravens should start Mike Anderson instead. The preseason is exactly how the real season is going to play out.

Are people really drafting McGahee because he is going to bust off 20+ runs on a regular basis or because he will be in line for a heavy workload and goal line carries? Don't draft Rudi Johnson if fantasy performance is rated by long runs.

I will gladly take McGahee and enjoy his easy schedule.

Stop right there. Mike Preston is NOT the Ravens beat reporter. He is a columnist with a history of complaining and agitating against a lot of things the Ravens do (and ANYTHING that has to do with Billick). He has been doing a lot of short blog entries this training camp but he is in no way a beat reporter. He is very fond of stirring the pot with this team.

I'm not saying he's completly wrong in wanting to see more from McGahee. Just make sure you know who your dealing with here.

:coffee: Mungo beat me to it. Anyone that reads the Sun will tell you that Preston has an almost pathological need to blast the Ravens. I never understood why, but he really should stick to HS lacrosse - he's almost completely unobjective & seems to invent stuff to complain about. Rush Limbaugh's take on Hillary Clinton carries about as much weight with me as Preston does on the Ravens.eta: like Mungo, I don't necessarily disagree with Preston on this issue but you need to understand how slanted he is.

Why the participation on this forum is bar-none better than any other fantasy service out there.Kudos.

(disclosure: a concerned, not overly optimistic nor overly pessimistic McGahee owner in one expert league)

 s both from Mungo and Uruk. Preston is far from the most knowledgeable Ravens reporter in the metro area. He might be right about this but I'd rather hear from Jamison Hensley or Aaron Wilson on the matter. They're at camp all day, every day.

I agree with a previous poster who said, and I paraphrase, "he's better than Jamal Lewis". I agree, but that's not saying a whole lot. McGahee may be overrated, and that's not a reach.
