Anyone else find the timing of Ricky Williams signing a bit peculiar shortly after Leshure's season ending injury?

Rice is back down to 6 TDs
The goal line carries were good while they lasted
As a Rice owner, i think this is the perfect pickup...good enough not to worry the staff and not nearly as good as the McClain/McGahee RB combo (BTW, they had quite the Irish backfield).
I'm a Rice owner as well. McClain was next to nothing last year as a runner goes (28 carries 85 yards and 0 TD's) but I can easliy see Williams taking over the role McGahee had there. Ricky is just as big and looks faster to me. In fact, he may even exceed what McGahee did there last season.I'm not jumping off a cliff or anything with Rice but its a big disheartening to hear they signed Ricky when i expected Rice would be the man in short yardage and the goal line.

Same thing I thought. I'm sure there had been previous talks, but when the detroit back went down I bet the Ravens got back on the phone to get the deal done.

Well, glad I never picked up Parmesan-alee. Not super stoked about having Ricky behind Rice though. I think he's an upgrade over Willis.

Rice couldnt have been any worse last year for a non-injury year; only 5 rushing TDs yet he was still the #12 overall RB in my primary league due to racking up all. That's not a bad floor.

I honestly believe Rice will be given the GL duties this year and his back-up will spell him for a couple drives in the traditional back-up mode. ...but that's pure speculation until Harbaugh/Cameron tell us what they plan on doing and we see what happens in the preseason.

I agree with this take. Gives the coaches a veteran they can rely on IF needed but no guarantee he wins the #2 job even (don't panic on Parmele just yet) and I'd say Rice is better off than he was in previous years with McGahee established as the GL guy

Downgrade Parmele at least for this year.
In three years in the league, he is rocking a total of 44 rushing yards, and will be 26 in December. At what point do we just stick a fork in him versus downgrading him?
Well if he was the only guy behind Rice he would have plenty of value.

The Baltimore Sun confirms that Ricky Williams is expected to handle short-yardage and clock-killing situations this season.

Per My Team news on MFL

Despite the addition of Ricky Williams, OC Cam Cameron made it clear that Ray Rice will be the Ravens' goal-line back this season.

"Ray Rice will play a major role in short-yardage and goal-line this year," Cameron said after the Williams signing. "We were just fortunate to have a guy like Willis [McGahee, before], but this year Ray Rice will be in short-yardage and goal-line as well. He is outstanding." Rice dropped from the No. 4 fantasy back in 2009 to No. 11 in 2010, in large part because his season was so low-scoring. Getting goal-line carries is a large addition to his already top-six overall fantasy value. Williams is strictly a handcuff pick.
