Ray Rice responded to my tweet! (1 Viewer)

I have Ray Rice in a dynasty league. Its a league where if the NFL player is a Free Agent or gets Franchised Tagged then he is a Free Agent in our league. So I had to Franchise Tag him. So I'm really hoping he gets a new deal by the July deadline. Cause if he plays with the Franchise Tag this season I will lose him as a free agent.

So I tweeted Ray Rice this

Jacob Blackburn ‏ @jacobo_moses

@RayRice27 Hey Ray what are the chances you get a new contract before the deadline in July? Better then 50% or under?

This is what RayRice tweeted back

Ray Rice ‏ @RayRice27

@jacobo_moses call the team and ask them

Hmmm I don't know if that's encouraging or not.

Yeah my whole point was Its not often NFL players like Ray Rice would respond to a tweet from a Peon like me. :bag:
Sometimes I shudder to think we put these NFL players on a pedestal. Whereas if they were not good athletes we wouldn't associate with them in real life. Get over it. They are just people that happen to be fast and big. It isnt like they are really talented at something that actually matters. Just guys that hit the genetic lottery no matter how much they want to taunt their hard work. There are many exceptions but they are just guys.

If he is Franchise Tagged and plays on that all year. That means he is a Free Agent in my league so I will lose him to Free Agency because we can't Franchise Tag the same player in back to back years.

So I just really want him to sign a long term deal soon. Was hoping it was likely by July.

And to be honest with Foster and the deal he got. Surprised Rice hasn't gotten a new deal similar to Fosters.

Forget I posted this damn Post in the first place. :wall: I thought it was cool. I mean it is the offseason. Sorry to waste everyone's Shark Pool Thread space.

Its certainly a good data point if we're trying to gauge the chances of him getting a long-term deal done. I appreciate that you shared it, no need to apologize for it

It's cool. Bunch of over-analytical preachy types and mockers in this thread.

Don't listen to the haters.

I accidentally ran into Nicholas Cage in New Orleans a few years ago. I mean ran into him literally on the sidewalk. I said I was sorry and that I liked his movies and walked away. I thought his entourage was going to kick my butt.

You might ask what does this have to do with FF? Well, nothing I guess. I'll excuse myself now.

I ran into (literally) Michael Keaton in South Beach one time. He is a midget and stared at me like he was going to beat my ###.

Thats all I got

I ran into Sammy Hagar in the Sky Suites lounge at the Aria in Las Vegas. I gave him the the double guns, he gave me a single. I'm pretty sure that's why DLR is back with Van Halen.

I don't think anyone thought it wasn't a good thread.
Not to be a total d***, but I definitely thought it was a worthless thread. I clicked on it to make sure at least one person pointed it out, but I don't want to beat him up for it too badly because the shark pool is littered with worthless threads that have zero fantasy football relevance. I joined thinking this would be a place for good discussions, but it is more of a social forum with a nugget or two of good information hidden in a mess of thinly veiled AC threads, people speaking with authority without any real knowledge, and people looking for some sort of camaraderie or connection on a message board. And I can see why - there is plenty of camaraderie here.. exhibited any time someone calls someone out for posting something stupid, biased, misleading, and/or off topic, everyone jumps in and kicks the guy for bucking the system chanting "it's people like you who ruin the shark pool". Actually, it is those people trying to clean it up.

No long-term deal = higher chance of Rice holdout = reason for worry.far from worthless.
When was the last time a significant player missed games because of a holdout? I guess some could blame a slow start (see Chris Johnson) on a holdout, but that's overstated in my opinion. The Titans OL sucked.

Even if you don't believe Johnson's holdout was responsible for his down year, it is enough to give anyone thinking of Rice top 3 or Forte in the first pause if they do holdout well into the preseason.

dont let the jerks get to you all they do is come around here and be mean so you should be like taylor swift in the video for the song mean and not let it get to you and go to college or be a fashion designer who is famous and also that rapper who was a jerk to her is a jerk too thats one to grow on from swc and take it to the bank brohan

Why is it worthless?Yea part of the thread is "look at me", an athlete responded to me, who cares. It's not like he asked him what his favorite color was.He asked him a football related question, and got a football related answer.:shrug:You may have an issue with the quality of the board, and you are entitled to that, but just seems like an odd thread to point that out, where someone is giving a piece of information that is not readily available to most.

Off the top of my head S Jacks got hurt week 1 after his hold out too, pretty sure it was the hammy too which is often a conditioning issue. I feel like I'm forgetting another too.

If the thread title was, "Rice comments on contract negotiations", instead of sounding like a 12 year old girl that got her hand touched at a NKOTB concert, I don't think there'd be any bad posting talk.

He asked him a football related question, and got a football related answer.
mmmmmmeh... a contract related question and a blow off answer. I don't think any real insight can be gleaned from that response. To draw any kind of conclusion would be reading into it too much.

LOLChrist you people find the worst things to pick at.You know Rice has a contract to play football, right? He didn't ask him a contract related question about his contract with Powerade.

Slightly off the topic of this thread, but I'd have to say a "hesitant yes" to Bloom's question. With Forte and Rice both contract question marks (and Forte got a nice BIG addition to his backfield), now McCoy a bit of a O-line question mark with the loss of his LT, and a few other RB related question marks that have come up this offseason (specifically RRBC situations) - in this year more than ever if I don't have at top 3 pick you really need to go the "safe" route and target QB and WR early, then maybe get a top 3 TE before looking at RB.

VJax
Rotoworld has him playing in all 16 games last year. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3202/vincent-jackson

He's referring to the year before, when he held out, only playing in the games at the end of the season to have a full season count so that he would be an UFA in 2011. V Jax did, though, single-highhandedly win me a playoff game with that amazing 3 TD performance in 2010...so I can't really be mad at him.

I stand corrected, but I'm not sure we can compare stud RBs with WRs according to how most feel (not me) about RBs and a slow start as a result of a holdout. I do know this, 99% of the time when a player threatens a holdout he's bluffing.

I'd say a significant amount of player news is based on "reading into it too much". It works for commodities traders & speculators, why not fantasy value?

Thanks for posting the tweet, jacobo_moses.

Getting interaction with people you wouldn't normally have access to is one of the best things about twitter in my opinion.

I don't send out a lot of tweets, and when I do it's mainly interacting with the media to get information. But I still remember the first time I got an answer to a question. It felt like a whole new world had opened up.

Why would you assume if they were not athletes we would not associate with them? Stereotype much?I think they are talented at something that actually matters judging from their contracts, celebrity, and the fact that we spend so much time talking about them. You could make the same sort of dismissive comment about virtually any celebrity.

That's pretty cool that Rice takes the time to do that. I was psyched that I went on a plane with Wake Forests QB yesterday.

It definitely is cool when a celeb responds to you via twitter. The response itself? I would lean towards the belief that the Rice camp thinks the Ravens camp isn't fully engaged in the process to get a new deal done. Rice would likely have ignored the tweet entirely rather than respond with something that meant nothing.

It was fine that you posted it. It was the way you posted it that had alot of us wondering if you were some giddy 14 year old on twitter. Also Mark Schlereth sent a tweet back to me saying that you should try his Stinkin Good Green Chile.

I think the exclamation point was a bit much and the reason you took a lot flack.

As for the post, I think it's time to reply back "Ozzie got back to me, says defense wins championships"

Jimmy Johnson (the former coach, not the NASCAR driver) has responded to a couple of my questions on twitter over the last 6 months or so. Mostly fish talk. He responds to tons of tweets from his twitter followers. Pretty cool of him.
