RB A.J. Dillon, PHI (1 Viewer)

Where's the love for AJ? Any chance he becomes the 1A over Jones this season?

Who followed Packers TC closely? Any insight?

Anyone watch the AJ Dillion fantasy draft besides me here ? He won the league last year even despite taking CMC with his 1st pick. Fast forward to about the 21 minute mark if you want to skip all the intros and get to the draft (they show a royal rumble for how they got their pick slot)

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon are "1A and 1A" backfield options.

“They’re two of the premier backs in our league, in my opinion," he said. "They can do anything.” Shoutout to LaFleur for the clarity. Green Bay coaches and players have said for months that neither Dillon and Jones would run as a clearcut primary back. It would seem that Jones -- a superb pass catcher -- would be the primary pass-catching back in Aaron Rodgers' backfield while the bigger Dillon splits carries between the 20s and perhaps gets short yardage and green zone attempts. Dillon in 2021 had inconsistent usage behind Jones until a late-season injury to Jones that made Dillon the team's starter. Dillon was fantasy's 14th highest scoring running back with increased usage over the season's final seven weeks. If the Packers truly see Dillon and Jones are interchangeable, Jones is being drafted beyond his fantasy ceiling. He's being drafted as the RB11 while Dillon is going as the RB25.

As long as Dillon is getting the redzone runs I like him a whole lot in standard scoring.

He's my 3rd RB, so I'm loving this.

AJ Dillon rushed 10 times for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Packers' Week 1 loss to the Vikings, adding five catches for 46 yards.

Dillon led the Packers in all rushing and receiving stats. Even more shocking is the fact that he out-targeted Aaron Jones 6-5 while also out-carrying him 10-5. Dillon also punched a short touchdown for the team's only score of the day. The split is ideal for Dillon as he gets to take carries at the goal line and catch passes. For Jones, who was a second-round pick in fantasy drafts, it's a worrying start to the year. Dillon will be a solid RB2 option versus the Bears in Week 2.

Boom, great game 1. I expect more Jones the next game, but also probably about the similar amount from Dillon. Won't get a TD every week, but overall a promising start for someone going in round 5.

AJ Dillon rushed 18 times for 61 yards in Green Bay's Week 2 win over the Bears, adding a catch for six yards on three targets.

Dillon managed just two red zone carries, neither in a goal-to-go situation, and also had a checkdown catch on third-and-11 with 3:22 left in the game. He managed to close out the game with a pair of five-yard runs against heavy personnel, but Green Bay's screen game was working well enough that they didn't need to get simple with Dillon. He'll be on the RB2/FLEX line in Week 3 against Tampa's tough run defense.

AJ Dillon (knee) was removed from the Week 4 injury report and will play against the Packers.

Dillon was a full participant in practice to close the week, so his limited status on Wednesday was likely nothing more than maintenance. Through three weeks, Dillon leads the Packers' backfield with 40 carries. He is tied with Aaron Jones at 12 targets. Against a New England team that will struggle to mount lengthy drives, Dillon should get going for RB2 fantasy numbers.

Traded like Lazard? :oldunsure:

AJ Dillon rushed 10 times for 41 yards in the Packers’ Week 6 loss against the Jets, adding four receptions for an additional 11 yards.

Dillon fared no better than his running mate Aaron Jones. In fact, Dillon had a costly fumble mid-game that aided in points for the Jets. Dillon had solid runs late, but was stuffed for most of the game. Depending on the matchup, you should consider keeping Dillon on your bench.

AJ Dillon rushed four times for 15 yards in the Packers' Week 7 loss to the Commanders.

Dillon's biggest play of the day was a five-yard gain from the Packers' one-yard line to allow the Packers to run the clock until halftime. He was essentially uninvolved otherwise, rushing just three other times and failing to record a target. Dillon is set up for another quiet game when the Packers take on the Bills in Week 8.

Not sure why he is not getting any play Have to blame LaFleur and Rodgers for how bad the offense is

Dillon is totally useless, guess you have to hold

Yes. He is good. This is well documented by (checks notes) all of last year & game 1 this year.
Yeah last year was pretty good. I’m just not seeing it from him this season. Could be reflective of how he’s being used or just bad luck but he’s not doing anything when he gets opportunities.

He was one of my biggest whiffs this year. I really liked him to be a workhorse along with Jones and it hasn’t worked out anywhere close unfortunately. The whole GB offense has been a mess.

For some reason their OC believes the best way to use him is as a bartering ram. Every time I’ve watched the packers they just run him up the gut.

I do not believe it’s a reflection of Dillon’s ability but rather his usage. It’s criminal.

I think all of the GB offensive problems are on the OC. They are way too predictable as you have alluded to. Dillon can catch. Their two best offensive players are Dillon and Jones. They have complimentary skills and could be used together (i.e. on the field at the same time) to mix up the offense and keep the defense guessing. GB is a mess but the predictable play calling is the biggest issue.

Totally agree. When I watched them live I was guessing the play calls based on how they were lined up and maybe 8/10 I was correct.

And I’m an idiot.

I can only imagine the field day an opposing DC has facing them.

I traded a sizable package to get AJ Dillon this off-season in a 16-team dynasty.

He’s been a crushing boat anchor since week 2.

What the hell.’
As did I. I gave up J and A Robinson for Dilion and Woods and received a 2nd next year for my 3rd.

A whole bunch of swapping turds, as it would turn out.

I lost a high pick from a team that’s now hurting after losing Hall.

So….I win the crapolympics.
☹️

The last couple of weeks I've been feeling I totally misread Dillon's situation this year. I thought he not only would continue last year but potentially take the next step this year. I only drafted him as a flex in 2 leagues, but I really don't have any better options so I'm kind of committed to keep running him out there.

They should trade AJ Dillon to the Jets immediately.
We're talking about a team that drafted Jordan Love in the 1st round while a Hall of Fame QB was still trying to lead them to another Super Bowl
They are hard headed and not quick to admit when they make a draft mistake especially on offense and skill positions.
I'm not sure Alan Lazard is an NFL starting WR honestly
I think I might share in @Ilov80s on whether AJD is really that good.

Aaron Jones has risen to No 9 in PPR leagues on the season.
Top 10, really?

Well, if they faced their own DC, he would figure out a way to make Dillon look like Franco Harris.

They can’t even bring themselves to cut Amari Rodgers, even though a) his only skill set is supposedly as a returner, b) he’s bad at that.

AJ Dillon rushed 11 times for 34 yards in the Packers' Week 9 loss to the Lions, adding two receptions for 10 additional yards.

It was another hugely-ineffective game for the third-year pro, who was held out of the end zone despite receiving a pair of carries from the Lions' one-yard line. Once again a non-factor in the passing game, Dillon has made only one house call all year. Despite today's disappointment, Dillon could be Week 10 relevant against the Cowboys with Aaron Jones nursing an ankle injury. Were Jones to sit, Dillon would be a volume-based RB2. We hesitate to say RB1 because of how poorly Aaron Rodgers is likely to fare against Dallas' pass rush, making life difficult for the entire offense. Kylin Hill is the Packers' No. 3 running back.

Hard to judge dillon in this dumpster fire of an offense
Not really. Aaron Jones has outperformed him by a wide margin in that same dumpster fire offense.

He would perform better on a better team but he doesn't seem to be a guy that actually makes a team better.

Maybe the biggest RB disappointment in magic football this season.

I mean I'd say Harris and maybe even Edmonds are above him in terms of non-injury busts but ya, not so good.

Didn't Harris have have injury/illness issues?

Those are good ones too but it feels like those situations resolved themselves and we know what to do going forward. Even last week there was reason to consider rolling Dillon out against the Lions. Now with Jones possibly having an ankle issue, and bye weeks, Dillon will once again be a question for people's lineups this week.

Other candidates for biggest RB bust (non-injury):
Jonathan Taylor* ADP RB#1 (he was busting long before he got hurt)
Najee Harris ADP RB#8
Fournette RB#12
Montgomery RB#17
Akers RB#19
CEH RB#24
Dillon RB#26

no doubt AJ has looked way better but i also feel since week 1 they have been using dillon in a really lame and predictable way. Just an eyeball opinion though...

They have a split of 134:119 touches. I think that is a large enough body of evidence to suggest they get similar usage and Dillon is not capitalizing on his opportunities.

I will see if I can find down and distance usage but I'm sticking with my premise ATM.

Jones v Dillon splits

1st down Jones 62-324-0
1st down Dillon 57-200-0

2nd down Jones 34-218-1
2nd down Dillon 32-189-1

3rd down Jones 8-39-0
3rd down Dillon 8-20-0

Yards to go splits:

1-3 Jones 16-80-0
1-3 Dillon 18-65-1

4-6 Jones 13-119-0
4-6 Dillon 12-37-0

7-9 Jones 12-55-0
7-9 Dillon 4-14-0

10+ Jones 66-346-1
10+ Dillon 64-273-0

There doesn't appear to be much difference between the downs or distances where they are used.

AJ Dillon left the Packers' Week 15 game against the Rams to be evaluated for a concussion.

Dillon took a hard hit at the end of the third quarter and immediately went into the medical tent. He was then escorted to the locker room by the independent neurologist on Green Bay's sideline, letting us know he is being checked out for a concussion. If he can't return, Aaron Jones will shoulder the load for the remainder of the game.
