I think Dillon will get a shot and if he starts out hot he will continue to get carries.  If he makes a mistake or stalls out then it may shift more to Williams.  I believe Williams will get all the passing down work (if Ervin is out). 

 
Who exactly is the handcuff? I think their offense changes a bit. Adams was running really advanced routes out of the backfield and asked to do a lot of things with the playbook that Williams probably can't do and Dillon doesn't understand yet and won't be able to, anyway.

Williams is a great route runner too. No drop-off there.

I haven't seen Williams run downfield routes like Jones has, but you're not talking to a Green Bay homer, so take that with a grain of salt. Jones was running a bunch of wheel routes that even the casual observer like me had to notice. Not sure if Williams does that all that often as he's not exactly a burner who can get two steps on an LB or safety.

Per FFI, Williams caught 87% of passes thrown his way last year, 3rd best among RBs. And 5 TDs. They used him quite a bit around the goal line as a receiver. He also averaged a respectable 4.3 ypc, much of it was on 1st and 2nd down when he alternated series with Jones, about 2 to 1. He's not Jones on the wheel routes, and doesn't have his burst, but he has a connection with Rodgers. He only has 1 run longer than 20 yards in 20018-2019. 

I'm expecting 50/50 with Dillon, assuming Dillon doesn't make mistakes.

I've been a Packers fan forever.  I don't see it.  I think Williams gets the bulk of the work, and Dillon gives him an occasional breather.

I think Williams goes to Jones role...Dillon to Williams role (maybe not in the pass game like Williams though).  I think a little more than giving him a breather.  But not at all a 50/50 split.

 
I have Jones in both of my dynasty teams with Williams on one of them. Do we start AJ if he is active but no definitive word on how healthy he is? For the most part I have decent options but hate to bench AJ if he is active. I saw a video of some doctor stating his calf injury is very susceptible for re injury, yikes... 

 
I'd prefer that they sit him and not worry about starting him and having him either go out early or sitting in the second half if they have a big lead.

Aaron Jones said he was confident he could play through calf strain in Houston, but #Packers aren’t expected to push him. The plan is for Jones to not play v Texans, per sources. Jamaal Williams and AJ Dillon will have increased roles, and Dexter Williams was called up for depth.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette's Ryan Wood reports the Packers' "plan" is for Aaron Jones (calf) to not play Week 7 against the Texans.

Per Wood, Green Bay "isn't expected to push" Jones despite his own confidence in his ability to play through the injury. If Jones is indeed inactive, Jamaal Williams immediately becomes a borderline RB1/2 with rookie AJ Dillon possibly flirting with double-digit carries. Jones' issue doesn't seem like a long-term one.

Well there are a lot of circumstances that do seem to be favorable to Williams in this match up.

First of all the Texans are the worst run defense in the NFL right now statistically giving up the most rushing yards at 5.4 ypc so far. So Williams should have better than his average success running the ball.

For targets so far Jones has had 28 in 5 games (5.6 per game) while Williams has had 14 (2.8 per game) they have also used Tyler Ervin as a receiver and he has 6 targets. AJ Dillon has yet to be targeted.

So if Jones and Ervin are both out that means Williams will likely see more targets than he has been. Based on the targets he and Jones have combined for Williams might be getting 8 targets in this game. I think he gets at least 6.

Williams has been a very efficient receiver this season. 93% catch rate and 8.5 yards per target. He is more efficient than Jones as a receiver so far this year.

He is likely to feel good enough to go if he is travelling and warming up. But calf injuries are stupid weird. If they say he is active I'm going to scream. Before I run to put him back in my lineups with little to any confidence. 

 
Can't take a 0 in the flex spot, so I'm taking him out for Claypool.  Just too risky that he doesn't play anywhere close to his usual full role even if he starts.

Starting Jamaal with confidence. He has played faster this season from what I've seen and deserves this shot. I'm rooting for him as a man and not just because I have stakes in him. 

 
Ugh.. now forced to pick between Williams and Gibson as an underdog in a need to win game. Feels like Williams has higher floor and upside now..... torn

 
Any word on Aaron's status for this week?  CBS has Williams ranked in the top 10 while Footballguys has Jones in the Top 5 RB rankings at the moment...  Waivers run tonight and Williams is available but would tailor a bid if I knew whether he was going to start a second week in a row vs. just bidding on a handcuff...

No word yet but he was a GTD last week so probably good chance he plays.

In theory he should play, but at the same time, no team is as patient with resting injured players than Green Bay. I think if Jones isn't 100%, its possible Williams starts again. Frankly, I don't think it'd make a difference in whether they can beat the Vikings either way.

 
The issue at play this week is the Packers play next Thursday, so I'm definitely concerned the conservative staff may opt to keep him out until then. They shouldn't need him against the Vikings, but we probably won't know much about his availability until Friday. I do expect Jones to lobby hard to play, given his desire to land a new deal.

He's already proven himself. He can do things Jamaal cant. 

 
With GB being conservative with the health of their players, I would think if they make him active he should get near his usual load.

Agree...if he is active...and barring any set backs this week in practice, I expect him to be...he gets a pretty normal load.

No practice today according to Matt Schneidman on Twitter. No clue who he is but he has a blue check and listed off the Packer guys who did and didn’t practice today. I don’t think Schefter’s list there was meant to be conclusive of everyone who didn’t practice.

edit- Packers beat guy for the Athletic and he had vídeos up from practice today. Seems he was there.

Also he has a quote from LaFleur about wanting to be super safe with Jones. Reading between the lines I could see them hoping to beat Minny without him so he’s more healthy 4 days later in a bigger game against SF.

Agreed.  I think it's another week of Jamaal.  Per Rob Demovsky, "Sounds like it might be another week for RB Aaron Jones (calf).  Coach Matt LaFleur said holding him out last week "definitely helped him but he's got to continue to improve and get better each day."  LaFleur said they won't risk losing him long term so "we'll be smart with him.""

I’m glad they’re taking the cautious approach.  Get Jones to 100% for his cake walk playoff schedule.
