Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson worked out Sunday after learning his brother had been killed in a Texas homicide shooting the night before.

Peterson was reportedly told early Sunday morning about his brother's death, then went on to complete all the drills and run a 4.38 forty.

Wow. Tough life that kid's had. Father in prison for 8 years. Older brother killed right in front of him by a drunk driver when he was a child.

rough week. LTs dad, Damien Nash, now this.

no questioning Peterson's mental toughness to bust out a 4.3, 40 after that news.

Just shows you the character this young man has. Kinda get tired of reading about the mishaps of Pacman Jones and Chris Henry all the time (even though they are entertaining).

Well I don't know about that.I mean I wouldn't think he had less character if he wanted to attend a funeral or be by his family members' sides and grieve with them. Does his family feel upset with him for not being there?Someone mentioned "ice water in his veins" (or something like that) maybe he and his brother were estranged or there's some negative issue there? Then he'd look like an uncaring SOB.What if he was so upset but found strength from within to perform wonderfully at the combine? You can go on and on with what if's here. When someone's in mourning, that's not a time for judgement. I wish the press would just let the guy grieve, but instead this will probably become a big story by noon with everyone judging him.

 I'm not putting down on Peterson, but I am wondering what the hell one's brother's homicide has to do with one's character. :thumbup:As for the performance, he's been working out preparing for this day. If history is any guide, when emotions are running high players if anything perform better on the field, e.g. Favre's MNF game after his father's death, etc. It's counterintuitive perhaps, but true. Awful news for Peterson. I've had enough of stories regarding deaths that are associated with the NFL for the year.

OK, character wasn't the right word I was looking for...definitely wouldn't expect him to perform at the Combine after such awful news. I guess my initial reaction was his dedication to follow through on the task at hand and put up the performance he did. That's what impressed me. But as Bri said, we don't know the state of the relationship between them.

I agree with the rest of your sentiments, but this wasn't the case. From Jay Glazer's article:
The sources also said Peterson was very close to his half-brother and took the news extremely hard.

That's terrible news :goodposting:

As for his performing in the combine after - different people react different ways - if he was close to his brother, you also have to figure his brother was 100% behind him chasing his dreams and NFL career and taken in that light he felt he was honoring his brother by doing his best. He also could be feeling the responsiblity to his family as part of the reason to take part.

All that said, really just have to send condolences to him and his family and leave it at that :lmao:

Maybe he imagined himself chasing his brother's shooter?
Show some respect.
I don't think any disrespect was shown here. Pro athletes use things like this to fire themselves up all the time. Greg Lloyd used to say he played football while always thinking about the fact that he was abandoned by his mother as a baby, and he used his life-long rage to attack everyone around him.

AP is the only OU athlete I can think of that I've ever rooted for.

[brian Bosworth U is my least favorite school ever, and Peterson spurned my 'Horns because OU was supposedly more likely to win a title. Of course, I can't blame him for not realizing he could've played with Football Jesus.]

I have trouble going to work when my favorite teams lose. I can't imagine having the biggest audition of my life after news like this.

When you think about his devastating family tragedies and the fluke injuries he's suffered, and the fact that he keeps bouncing back, Peterson may have already shown he's one of the most mentally tough players in the league.

If Cleveland nabs him 3rd, then takes Troy Smith in the 2nd, it could be as valuable as the famed Tomlinson/Brees draft for SD...

You left out being saddled with one of the worst nicknames of all time.
