D'Andre Swift rushed eight times for 37 yards and caught 4-of-5 targets for 41 yards in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Packers.

Swift narrowly out-touched Jamaal Williams 12-10, and his five targets tied Amon-Ra St. Brown for third on the team behind T.J. Hockenson (9) and Quintez Cephus (7). Swift now has 31 touches through two weeks and 16 targets in that span. He's looked better with the ball in his hands than Williams and should remain a PPR-friendly RB2 for the foreseeable future headed into a Week 3 date with the Ravens.

don’t mind the split with Jamaal at all. #30 is taking a beating on the inside stuff. hopefully this will keep Swift healthy and effective.

lousy loss but 6.5 YPT - he’s dynamic in space. I’m gonna keep rolling him I’m out as my RB2 or Flex in the leagues I have him.

D'Andre Swift (groin) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Swift was limited in practice leading up to Week 2 and ultimately played against the Packers without any issues. He held a narrow touch lead over Jamaal Williams which could be a sign that he's less than fully healthy. It could also be nothing more than the Lions' planned backfield split since signing Williams this offseason. It's safe to assume that Swift will continue to play through the injury and work in tandem with Williams. Despite operating in a committee, Swift has managed to post RB2 numbers at a minimum based on his massive role as a pass-catcher. He has 16 targets through two weeks and remains in play as an RB2 against the Ravens this week.

Lions RB D'Andre Swift (groin) remained limited in Thursday's practice.

Swift's been limited for most of the practices in each of the last two weeks, but that and a questionable tag didn't stop him from the backfield split in Week 2. He remains likely to play through the injury and retain RB2 value due to his contributions in the receiving game. The receptions keep him in the low RB2 range for Detroit's Week 3 test against Baltimore.

He's electric with the ball in his hands and they're feeding it to him in space now including out of 2 back sets. I don't see a reason why he wouldn't maintain his reception pace.

Looked to me like he had a 2nd TD today on that hurdle play. Seemed to break the plane with that stab. Was hoping for a challenge.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said "you’re going to see a lot more [D'Andre] Swift" moving forward.

“I certainly think you’re going to see a lot more Swift,” Campbell affirmed, “and he could very easily be out there first play. He’s done enough to earn that if that’s what you’re asking. He’s a dynamic player and I think he’s just -- every week he’s improving. And the more that he shows, the more we put on him." Swift has been an all-around chess piece for the Lions thus far, leading the team in carries (33), rushing yards (123), targets (23), receptions (19), total yards (289) and touchdowns (two). And, oddly enough, he's accomplished it all from the bench, leading all running backs in receiving yardage (166) as the overall RB3 despite playing behind Jamaal Williams through Week 3. Given the lowly state of the team's personnel, Swift is expected to continue garbage-timing his way to a top-12 finish — an easier task if afforded more opportunity down the stretch.

Swift has always had durability issues, dating back to his Georgia days.  I believe a lot of people in this forum ignored that.

What happened? Anyone watch the game? What happened to all the “going to see much more of him talk” from Coach Big Lebowski? Did Swift not bite enough kneecaps? Was that coach speak just pure gamesmanship? 

It seems the fantasy football industrial complex really was smitten with this guy this week. I didn’t see him ranked out of the top 12 RB this week pretty much anywhere, even in standard rankings. So what gives? This coaching staff clearly likes JWill so I don’t see him going away. Think better days are ahead?

D'Andre Swift rushed 8 times for 16 yards, adding four receptions for 33 yards in the Lions' Week 4 loss to the Bears.

Swift rushed the ball just eight times, while Jamaal Willams got 14 carries. Williams was not targeted however, while Swift saw six targets. Swift's usage as a rusher was disappointing but he did see a goal line carry, and was targeted in the end zone on a pass that was tipped. Swift looks likely to remain on the wrong side of the rushing split in Week 5, but he has a clear lead on Williams as a receiver. With Swift mixing in around the goal line, he can be considered a RB1 against the Vikings.

Thanks for this. This is the info I was looking for. A question for you though. Is Swift indeed their designated goal line back, or has it been a situation where he gets most of the cracks at the GL, but Jamal is mixed in as well (like a 60/40 split)? Thanks.

It’s mostly Swift but Jamal has gotten some cracks too.  I’d say it’s been 80/20 in favor of Swift but that’s just me shooting from the hip.  The lions have even used both backs at the same time around the goal line (Jamal in the trad RB role and Swift as a slot move type, a lot of jet sweeps and motion).  Its pretty clear to me that the lions view swift as a red zone weapon.

He could have walked in for a short TD reception as well but Goff (strangely) decided instead to tuck/run/slide at the 3yd line. Just a victim of a poor decision there.

D'ANDRE SWIFT RB, DETROIT LIONS

ESPN's Eric Woodyard said the Lions' use of D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams "will depend on what defensive schemes they're facing."

It's not what Swift drafters wanted to hear a week after Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said "you're going to see a lot more" of Swift in the team's backfield. The exact opposite came to pass in Week 4 against the Bears: Swift saw just eight carries to 14 for Williams, who started the game and rushed for a team-high 66 yards. Swift managed four receptions for 33 yards against Chicago. Woodyard said DEtroit coaches understand "what they have in the backfield with two dual-threat runners, so they will ride the hot hand -- meaning that Williams could very well get more touches in any given game if he's rolling, even though Swift is considered to be the RB1." Swift remains the superior PPR option in Week 5 against the Vikings, but his takeover of the Lions backfield will apparently have to wait.

That does indeed suck, but at least we know that DET will likely be behind each game, so Swift should get a lot of receptions.  The key will be the goalline carries.  I don't mind giving Williams the short yardage carries not in the redzone.

The Lions look likely to manage his practice time throughout the season, but he looks very likely to play in Week 5. The Lions will be without starting C Frank Ragnow this week and could also be without T Penei Sewell. While that would normally be bad for a running back, anything that keeps the Lions throwing will likely mean less Jamaal Williams and more Swift. Swift has a lower than ideal floor but his upside makes him a PPR RB1.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports D'Andre Swift (groin) is expected to play in Week 5 against the Vikings. 

Rapoport added that Jamaal Williams and Penei Sewell are also expected to play. Despite dealing with a  handful of injuries to key players, the Lions are entering Week 5 with most of their notable offensive options available. Expect Swift and Williams to continue splitting the backfield. Swift has seen the majority of the red zone looks and has out-targeted Williams 29-14 through four weeks. He sits on the RB1 borderline while Williams is a middling RB3.

I started Patterson over Swift this week, didn't like what I saw last week, hope Swift proves me wrong!

D'Andre Swift rushed 11 times for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' Week 5 loss to the Vikings, adding six receptions for 53 additional yards. 

Jamaal Williams started and remained in a near-even rotation with his more talented sophomore running mate, but Swift did win both the touch (17-14) and yardage (104-65) battles. Swift's score was a seven-yard run where he showed some impressive giddyup up the middle. It is easy to be annoyed by Williams' constant involvement, but it has become clear this backfield will be big enough for the two of them in an offense direly low on pass catchers. Swift has stabilized as a high-end RB2 who will continue to push RB1 valuation. His touch floor maybe needs to just be a smidge higher. The Bengals are on tap for Week 6.
