If Hall is healthy, then he’s the guy. But it’s fair to wonder if he’ll be that thru 2023. At the end of the day though, insurance was going to cost a lot. And ‘up to $8.6M’ sounds like ‘if Breece Hall dies tomorrow‘ type incentives.

Cook is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery to address a torn labrum and is also nearing the birth of his first-born child. As far as the Jets o-line play it should be improved. ATV is back healthy. Tomlinson had a down season but was rock solid in SF so should be better in 2023. Becton and Mitchell are back healthy. The rookie center has struggled a bit but McGovern was solid last season and is still around. Just getting five guys back healthy should make the line better.

OT has been a glaring need since before they officially acquired Rodgers. They're putting a lot of faith in the quartet of Becton, Brown and Billy Turner and Carter Warren to man the tackle spots.

Which means he'll be out there Week 1 - by taking him off pre-season PUP, they'd have to move him to IR if he's not ready which would mean missing six weeks. I suppose it's possible he could just be an inactive Week 1, but that seems unlikely now that he's off PUP.

From a philosophical perpective I agree with you and I have for a long time felt that teams do not prioritize offensive linemen as much as I would.

I think with a good offensive line a team can plug in any skill players and get more out of them because of that, but time has shown me that teams do not operate like this or agree with that perspective.

Something that coaches and GMs likely understand that I dont is my guess as far as why that is.

As far as how this has played out it wasnt until recently that Rodgers agreed to a pay cut, so moves they could have made prior to that were not available to Jets management.

I think this is the main reason why Cook is now with the Jets. Rodgers wanted him and he was willing to pay for it out of his own pocket. So of course they are going to get the player Rodgers was willing to do this for.

This seems obvious.

Hall and Cook are now both RB2/3s week to week with some potential RB1 weeks when they scores TD(s) - it doesn't kill Hall's value, but it sure wounds it. Cook was likely in a timeshare no matter where he landed so not sure it affects his value - but his ceiling is capped.

Hall of course has loads of upside because talent sometimes wins out but these guys are both avoids for me unless they drop to the 9th or so for Cook and the 5th or so for Hall. We'll see how ADP shakes out.

I’ve been thinking about this.

• It works out for FF in redraft by getting a +2 round discount on Hall, who was going to lose touches to Knight & Carter regardless. Now those touches will go to Cook. Cook has been dinged up over the years & while he might have some juice left, I didn’t see it very often with the Vikings. And it works out for Hall because in theory he can take a little longer and potentially avoid some of the common dip in ability post-knee surgery. I think he’s in for a big 2nd half.

• No sugar-coating it in dynasty, especially to those of us who were counting on a big year (like me) - but long-term this seems like it’s better for Hall’s recovery, and his future is plenty bright.

All that said, this offense should be dramatically improved, which in theory should mean more offensive plays run than under say, Mike White or Zach Wilson. Longer drives sustained means more plays means more touches to share.

And with that defense I could see the Jets run the ball enough that both Cook & Hall are upside RB2s, with whomever scores in a given week being a borderline RB1.

For the moment I can see a few silver linings with this. That Hall just came off the PUP is a huge relief as a Hall shareholder, and that Cook still isn’t recovered from his surgery leads me to believe Hall is still the 1A.

Rodgers was seen clutching his left calf after throwing an interception in practice. He continued to play, struggling to complete passes for the remainder of the practice session. Rodgers missed time in OTAs due to a right calf issue. His health will be paramount to the Jets, who will surely exercise extreme caution with their 39-year-old QB.

Agree with every word. None of this seems hyperbolic. Hall is clearly better at this stage of their respective careers, and whether ARod wants a veteran out there or not, it’s not ARod’s call to make.

And that's ok because I think Rodgers is going to prefer the vet that isn't going to miss an assignment or a route or a hot read or whatever and he would much rather take the slight ding in rb productivity for the confidence that his rb is there doing the right thing

Agree with every word. None of this seems hyperbolic. Hall is clearly better at this stage of their respective careers, and whether ARod wants a veteran out there or not, it’s not ARod’s call to make.

Well I'm not going to into it with someone that clearly doesn't want to debate his own opinion

But at this point, Cook is the better all-around rb. Hall has all the potential and is the better pure runner there is no doubt. But Cook has the smarts of being an elite rb in the nfl (and he may have or may not have slowed down)

I own Hall and that's just my opinion. But I can see a lot of upside and use here for Cook.

Getting a player for him & forcing that player in over a more talented player aren't the same thing.

Cook will have a role. Hall is an elite talent that the Jets will lean on if they want to win football games.

You’re making an assumption about Hall that may not be meritorious. Did he miss a lot of assignments as a rookie?
