RB Derrick Henry, BAL (1 Viewer)

Titans offense actually moved the ball fine the first couple drives where Henry got his 8 touches, they just sucked in the Red Zone. Miami was selling out to stop the run and was getting gashed in the passing game early, but they seemed to change the defensive approach after the 1st 2-hour delay.

It's hard to take much useful information out of a game that covered 10 minutes of game time in a 4-hour window smack dab in the middle of the game. I was encouraged at how TEN wanted to use him early, and discouraged by how little play he got in catch-up mode.
Good info.  Seriously.  I didn't see the game, but that makes sense.

Just re-watched the game. He looked fine to me. As mentioned, had a great TD run called back (didn't see the replay on condensed version). His problem is usage, not talent.

What is disturbing is that IMO this was not a game flow type of thing. Titans should have been running their offense pretty much the whole game until the final 5 min or so when they were down by two scores.

They trailed by 7 points most of the game. And if a 7 point third quarter deficit is going to totally suppress Henry's 2018 usage, well, let's just say I'm glad I own Dion in my other dynasty league.

Yeah, I just got done watching the game. TEN was never down by more than a score until late into the 4th quarter. TEN was down 7-3 with 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, had two possessions and Henry didn't see a single snap. In the 2nd half, Henry only saw 6 total snaps. I don't see how this is a game script issue.

Vrabel exchange after saying Henry is still the lead back

"Will Henry be a bigger part of the game plan moving forward?"

"I just said....yes"

"Would you say much bigger?"

"I'd say much much bigger. How's that?"

LaFleur was bad.

I have to lose the fact that this staff was hired to improve upon a playoff staff and take them to the promised land and instead just consider them a new staff.

The Titans offensive line received a top 5 all-time grade from PFF for pass blocking. 97.4 with 100 being perfect. Davis was used plenty but not so well but let's say he was. He'd be the only WR or TE used well. The Titans should have passed all day and had success all day with a line doing that phenomenally well.

All us Titans fans are trained on "too cute" and LaFleur was. It wasn't the run on first, run on second, pass on third common O. It wasn't inside to the TE outside to the WR. It wasn't quick slant, quick slant, then deep. There was no rhythm at all. He seemed to be always thinking "what's clever here" and not just letting things flow.

Heimerdinger (former Titans OC) was Belichick like, he was a genius at getting matchups with shifts. LaFleur did almost none of that so it's just mano y mano matching up. They're blessed with RBs that have lined up wide, TEs that have played the slot, and WRs well trained at all three spots. Why on earth didn't he mix it up?

Even if we go back to the passing, an experienced OC maybe wouldn't know the stat but he would have a feel that they're protecting well. (Coming off preseason, that Gabbert is the backup doesn't count since he got the work this summer. It's not like it's week 8) He should have opened things up in the passing game more.

Spain is an odd bird. Every season he is statistically one of the best Gs in the NFL yet every offseason people talk like he's meh. He was rocking. Pamphile, who stunk all summer yet is a Vrabel guy, stepped in for Lewan and did real well. It was a pleasant surprise. The Titans bread N butter is running left and if Lewan's replacement is doing well, why not continue to?

The Titans likely won't re-sign C Ben Jones and Kline got the steal of the offseason in an awful G market. It has been confirmed that the Titans DID discuss cutting him and did discuss yet another new contract around the 53 time. Their two worst linemen is where LaFleur ran them. It worked pretty well. The logic is awful but it worked but...I'm still kind of annoyed, like you didn't realize we rock on the left side? Add a TE and we're dominant there? Keep in mind the Titans averaged a gigantic 8 ypc running left tackle for the season last year. I'm not spinning, this is a huge strongpoint for them. So I'm torn between "well good job by the interior guys that usually aren't good" and "cmon, use what works so well."

The Titans have the best downfield blocking TE in the NFL and one scouts review was that he never was put in position to use this skill. Why?

Aside from injury, is there a coach that has ever NOT put a RB back in after a long run?

Someone nicknamed Titanspin on another board counted the number of times Vrabel or LaFleur praised Taylor this summer-42. FORTY TWO! He had the most snaps of any WR with the first string offense this summer and (get this) it was more than 100 more. Has a coach ever said nah let's not play that type of guy? He had nine snaps.

There was a whole lot of overthinking and mismanagement for a first game that it's just gotta be discarded. Assume they correct this and say "why didn't we do that" and move on. Just move on.

In a perfect world, the gazillion delays would have provided for perfection and tinkering til they get things right. What probably happened is they just tinkered and tinkered until things got all sorts of backwards. That's really the only way you can explain anything.

If the Titans O looks the same, LaFleur and/or Vrabel will not be coaching by midseason. It won't happen again. People need to blow this game off and wait for a sincere game and not this injury fest, delay fest, rainy ugly mess.

Vrabel makes a blanket statement that practice reps=game reps from this point forward. Taylor, Henry, and Mariota last to leave.

During a time of rest, Henry was working out with Marcus.

Asked if that's what he wants to see and he replied that that's a good problem and no not what he had in mind. It's gotta be the reps with the coaches

Asked if he noticed- Oh I absolutely noticed

Those guys all need more work, so it's good that they stayed late.

That's impressive. A guy that big--that fast.
Right? It’s ridiculous that they don’t just ride him. Give him 25 carries a game. He will wear you out. And this is 100% objective opinion, would just love to see him get going.

I really want to buy low on Henry because the dude is such a beast and people are panicking on him, but I don't have a good read on the coaching staff to pull the trigger on him yet.

I’m really torn on the situation. I want Henry to do well and I want to keep him the next two years but if this continues similar to the split with Murray did, even if reversed, I don’t think he provides much value. I just checked to see that Lewis has a 4 year contract and Henry is signed till 2020 so nothing should theoretically change within the next two years. I have a strong stable of RB’s for next year (Kamara, Howard and Guice) so thinking about moving him for a young WR.

He's worth more to you than he is in trade right now. Wait until if/when Dion gets hurt and then move him.

Derrick Henry rushed 18 times for 56 yards in the Titans' Week 2 win over the Texans.

It was a tremendous game script for Henry, who will typically be called upon to ice games when the Titans are trying to secure a lead. He out-carried Dion Lewis 18-14, but both struggled mightily for breathing room without starting tackles Jack Conklin and Taylor Lewan available. Henry merely averaged 3.1 YPC, slightly better than Lewis' 3.0 Sunday. With only one target under his belt through two weeks of play, Henry (albeit immensely talented and an able receiver out of Tennessee's backfield) can't be considered anything more than a touchdown-dependent RB4 until further notice.

Abandon ship! Abandon ship!

It is not a good situation when your only hope for a good day out of RB is him busting a long TD in the 4th quarter in a game his mediocre team is winning.

Anyone, meaning @Bri, have an reliable update on Lewan & Conklin?

I played the waiting game last season holding Ameer waiting for Decker to come back. It was incredibly frustrating because all the reports on Decker were of the "will-he-won't-he" variety.

But I would be willing to try and acquire Henry if i can reasonably predict when Lewan & Conklin return. Having those guys in there is game changing IMO.

he might get cheaper after his next two nightmare matchups.

Such little upside left with this guy.  The only hope of him having a good fantasy game is him breaking a long run.  I foolishly thought that, despite the presence of Lewis, they would make an attempt to use him more in the passing game, but 1 catch for 5 yards in two games (on his only target) shows that they have no interest in using him in the passing game, which makes him mostly useless in this day and age of PPR.

I think the Titans offense will turn it around in a few weeks. Just need to get healthy. Not world beaters but much better than what they have been.

However, in a short bench league (0.5 ppr), I did drop Henry or Michel. :o

They have not used Matthews, Walker/Smith, Taylor and Henry anywhere near as much as predicted. It's gotta uptick

Dion Lewis is killing this guy's value. He's pretty much Royce Freeman.

Too many pass catching backs to start this guy. He's Steven Jackson without the receptions at this point.

We knew this would be a bad game for him.  Give him one more bad game.  He's going to be good during the stretch.
I’ve been saying that for 2 years now. Tennessee is....bad. Real bad. I see no value this year. He needs a change of location. Tried to sell him early but he’s simply a hold, or *gasp* a drop if you have short benches. He’s a keeper for me so no investment but this is the last year I do so unless he moves on.

I agree, you won't get ANY value for him in a trade right now.  No one is going to give up much for him at all... so no point in selling him.  I think he's a hold, and still really think he's going to be a decent RB2 down the stretch.  Tennessee is a mess right now, they've been facing some great run defenses.

I’ve been holding since he came into the league and I am REALLY pulling for him. I love watching him run and think he could be a dominant talent with the right system. For whatever reason, aside from TN being infatuated with RBBC, it just hasn’t worked with the Titans. Best case for him is finding a new organization but that’s unlikely as well  :(

He'll get there this year.  Have faith!
