RB Derrick Henry, BAL (1 Viewer)

Honestly this should have been the game they put on his back other than facing a tough jags front 7. Injured starter comes in early? I’d tell the defense to buck up and start mauling with Henry over and over. I didn’t watch the game and I suppose I haven’t looked at the box score because it was 6-9, but when I saw that mariota came in I thought “protect him by running.” I think he has decent games coming in the future but this is disappointing. That oline is supposed to be good and may get there eventually. Buy low?

This guy is not nor will he ever be a good RB.
I always love the takes that the dude who owns records at the HS and college level will never be a good RB. He may never be a good fantasy RB because RB production is more a product of environment than we usually like to admit, but saying he never-has-never-will be good is goofy.

He had 18 carries.  Did you expect more than that each game?

Hi Trent Richardson!

I'd like to see him consistently in the 20s, but that might be expecting too much.

Yesterday wasn't particularly baffling. The jags defense is really good, he got more work than Lewis although it seemed (haven't checked the stats) that Lewis was in more for key moments. I think that's going to continue.

For the team I really like the combo plus if Mariota gets healthy, the Titans have the makeup to play and win tough games. I don't think they can keep up in a track meet vs the chiefs, saints, etc

They should have beaten Miami but that was a #### show of a game out of their control on the road.

Philly is going to be a heck of a test, especially of their defense.

But I think we're looking at a 10 win, playoff bound team here.  Henry might not get to 1,000 yards and is disappointing for FF, but (it's early so obviously could be wrong) vrabel seems to know what he's doing to put the team in position to win.

Really looking forward to next week. Honestly I don't expect them to win, but it's their best test of the first half of the season, possibly all year.

I'd love to acquire Henry as I like the dude but he's probably not going to help a FF team win.

I only saw parts of the game and shouldn’t even say anything because I only saw a handful of carries, but he looked like he didn’t give a #####. He went down every time at first contact and didn’t even try to power through the tackle. And this was in a competitive game.

I really don’t get it.

Did you actually censor yourself here? Most polite poster award?

The offense has been awful. LaFleur was like borderline should be fired type after 3 games since his O was statistically worse than Robiske's. This week they found the passing game. Not to minimize they were down two to three tackles each week.

I am hoping they were giving Conklin a week to get his feet under him and they will iron out the kinks in the run game in Buffalo. It would be nice if they could get a lead, do this, and also let Mariota sit some to stay healthy.

This is not a whim. The Titans have two of the best tackles in football( and the most underrated G in football. ) The coach has said often how he will not totally go away from exotic smashmouth, that it suits his personality and the team's. They gotta let those tackles take someone on. It fires them up, especially Lewan. We haven't had an awesome game from Lewan in the run game yet. One where he is hooting and hollering at the crowd and the defenders. I would bet big $ Vrabel absolutely loves that when he sees it.

I was way off on Henry this year. I really thought he’d make the jump and be a RB2 at the very least. Very disappointing start.

I thought he'd have ~1,000 rushing, next to nothing in the passing game.  ~8 TD's.  I didn't love him at his ADP.  Now, he's not even going to come close to that.

I feel like most people would take a bag of chips for him.  That said, he can still be better than what he's been.  May represent a good buy low opportunity and provide RB3 or flex value in deeper leagues.  But again, I'm only buying EXTREMELY low.

I'm right there with you.  I have him in probably 4/12 and am strangely not hurt by him because he hasn't been in my lineups since week 1. :lmao:

I still believe there's a world where he puts up a couple big games and is a decent bye filler.

As a Henry owner in a standard league, I’m not selling for two reasons. Firstly, I just don’t believe Lewis will stay healthy for the entire year. Secondly, his value can’t be any lower, and as others have already mentioned, he has a favorable schedule moving forward.

Seriously considering cutting him. Benched him last week.

Sick to my stomach seeing him Lewis catching all those passes. Maybe the guy isn't an NFL caliber talent?

I already know he's going to go off on my bench then lay a goose egg a week later.

I have way too much Henry. I thought he had a chance to blow the doors off the season, and I can't even complain about his usage. He's getting the opportunity early in games to establish the hot hand, he's just not doing it.

Hopefully, it's just a product of offensive/OL struggles, but even if that's the case, when is it going to change?

This week when he's not facing one of the top Dlines in the league and actually is fed the ball.

I hope you're right. The offense as a whole, the OL, and the schedule have been brutal. But it's still hard to explain away 3 YPC flat and nothing whatsoever int he receiving game if Henry is good.

He won't be the high end RB2 that he was drafted as, but I think he's a low end RB2 or great boom/bust flex in standard leagues going forward.  He's faced 2 top run defenses the last 2 weeks, and OL has been decimated.  It's getting healthier and this is going to be a big game for the rushing offense.

More running as weather gets worse, schedule gets much easier vs run D's, offense is clicking more so more GL opportunities, OL getting healthier (a bit), etc.  He's too talented to only get 8 touches.  I think we see around 20 for 100 and 1 this week.

yep, 3rd round in a few redrafts this year for me.  He may come around but we are 4 games into the season & he has been the culprit in losing some fantasy games.  not harping on him for that, more like I'm harping on me for drafting him.  Mistakes happen but damn I wish they didn't involve a 3rd round pick.

Can’t start him and can’t trade him. Worst position to be in. Won’t be making the mistake of keeping him again. Time to move on. He may have a good game or two but not enough to trust starting him.

No flex option?
Can only start 2 RBs. Would never start him over my WRs either. You have a lot more faith in him than I do, lol. I’m just hoping he shows me something on the bench so I can either consider keeping him next year or moving him for a young receiver.

But I have Kamara, Howard and Guice as keepers next year so highly  unlikely I keep him. So I am even more frustrated with him because I don’t have the luxury of time. I need him to string together some good games in order to trade him.

You have to have deep rosters and/or be crazy thin at RB to even roster this guy right now imo.

Much less start him.
Ok then.  To say he's not even rosterable in leagues with normal 16-18 roster spots is crazy.  I can see not starting him but it's FAR from 'crazy' to keep him on an 18 man squad on your bench.

If you've got CMC and Kamara and can only start 2 RBs, then I'm not sure what you're disappointed in him for.  He never would have cracked your line up anyways.

Well we all would like our bench to do well for bye weeks or for trade options. Pointless to have someone on your team, whether it is bench or in your lineup, who is pulling 7 points a week.

ETA: And I’m moreso frustrated with him because he has been floundering on my bench since he came in the league. I could have kept someone else this year instead of him.

Not sure if you're going to find another rb on waivers right now that is pulling 7  per week with potential for more?  I totally understand people being frustrated and not starting him (except for this week), but to outright drop him in average bench leagues, I simply don't understand.  That sounds like an emotional drop more than anything.

He is RB #55 in my league.  He hasn't broken 60 (50/50 if he gets 25) yards rushing.  He hasn't gone north of 3ypc.

I dunno - good luck.

And he's at his absolute floor right now based on matchups and OL injuries.  RB#55 should be owned in all standard sized 12 man leagues.

I think a lot of us would just like to see something to get excited about. Whether it is one good game, one good drive, or hell even one beast of a run. I mentioned somewhere else that I did not get to see all of his carries this weekend what I did see looked to be the most imposing player on the field going down with first contact.

Someone dropped him in a PPR 12 team redraft...I'm thinking about snatching him which means I will have to drop McCoy. Both very disappointing RBs but I think Henry has higher value at this point.

This is the week, gentleman! If you aren't going to play him this week, just cut him.

Because you'll hate him even more when you bench him and then the Red Zone Channel jumps to Buff/Tenn at midfield and the host says "And now we're gonna take you to Buffalo. Its been a quiet year so far for Derrick Henry ... and then this happened. From 60 yards out the big man takes it to the house untouched to extend the Titans lead to 17-0 in Buffalo."

Just took a look at his game logs last year. No thanks. The guy had 2 good games, and besides that was pretty terrible. That last game of the year he had the nice 60 yd catch for a score, but that may never happen again. He had like 25+ carries for a little over 50 yards besides that. Gross. I'm starting to think this guy just isn't very good and finds a lucky hole every once in a while.

More running as weather gets worse,
I'm quoting you here but not necessarily singling you out because I see this all the time when it comes to discussing RBs. I don't think people realize how few "bad" weather games (not counting rain which is unpredictable) are actually played each season, especially when that team (and the entire division) plays in a warm weather city (Indy plays in a dome).

I see one potential cold weather game on their schedule - Week 15 @ NYG (and Henry owners may not even get to play that week ;) ). The rest of their December games are home in Tennessee and their end of November games are @ Houston and @ Indy.

is it him, the team or the staff?  He seemed like he had the talent and needs loads of touches to get going, but it seems like hes always getting pulled

And this more than anything is what I suspect has Henry owners so frustrated with him.

This dude has been the ultimate tease since day 1. He’s always been in a time-share - and he shown his ability in rare games when “the other guy” is hurt. Yet the Titans never allowed him to ascend to “RB1” status.

I was actually kind of high on Henry as a sleeper high ceiling RB this year - the post post post hype sleeper kinda thing.

As soon as they signed Lewis I immedialtely soured on the whole situation.

I can think of several other players this has happened with in the past, but maybe none as significantly or as frustrating as with Henry, as he seemed poised for greatness that just never came.

At this point I’m not even sure he’d ascend if Lewis were to get hurt - they’d probably just bring in another RB to go RBBC with and maintain the status quo.

I’m not sure why....is he just not as good as people thought? I don’t recal a significant injury derailing him at any point. He’s not a fumbler. I recall he’s a decent receiver.  He passes the eye test. I just don’t get why his coaches don’t trust him to carry the mail as a feature back.

Work ethic maybe? He's one of those guys that when we look at the tools he has, we can't figure out why he's not a stud. He's big, really big and yet, fast for his size. He can catch the ball, he blocks somewhat ok....this is a mystery to me. So there has to be something off the field...his attitude? his work ethic? I don't get it.

Glad I’m not alone in seeing him and his situation as a complete enigma. Really tempted to drop him for Drake because that situation seems more temporary in its “####tiness” and frustration whereas Henry’s is more long term with no discernible end in sight.
