RB Derrick Henry, BAL (3 Viewers)

Disappointing. Ended the regular season with no passing TDs. Can he no longer make these plays or are they just saving him for the playoffs? /s

Besides the precipitous fall in throwing attempts, his other stats were pretty good:

325 carries / 1921 yards / 16 TDs
19 receptions / 193 yards / 2 TDs

Derrick Henry totaled 138 rushing yards & 2 TD against the Browns generating +87 rush yards over expected.

Henry finishes his first season in Baltimore with +562 RYOE, his most in a season since 2018 and the most in the NFL entering the rest of Week 18.

Justice Hill was too good for them as the 3rd down back. They didn't really need him for passing.

Probably. It would really clinch it if they won the Super Bowl.

He's the best RB of the last 20 years in my opinion, and arguably still the best right now.

Typical RB rules of longevity don’t apply to this guy.

It’s a shame he sort of lost the first 2 years of his career due to some limited usage. It’s holding his career numbers back a bit.

Henry it almost impossible for DBs to tackle when he gets past the first wave.

Watching the game last night and my buddy asked "Are hands to the face penalties only for lineman?" On one of his runs last night Henry just jammed his hand into the face of a would be tackler knocking him down, if you notice he does the quite a bit when he straight arms tacklers.

I don`t know the answer.

I couldn't be happier for him.

It's so great to see the Ravens teammates being his buddy too. Those brief interviews with teasing and fun stuff are nice to see.

He still cheers for the defense from the sideline and finds O linemen to thank after a score. Did ya see him leaning in, hand on helmet with a Steeler after the game? What was that? Empathy?

It's more than his ridiculous bod. He's just made perfectly. He knows the work to put in and he knows his place and...he's just so darn likable.

On the subject of his perfection - when do you think the cliff is coming? I was finally able to trade for him in my long-time dynasty (keep only 5) league. My intent was just for him to get me over the top this year and then let him go back into the draft. After the year that he has had, though, I will almost certainly keep him around. These athletes that break the aging paradigm (jerry rice, tom brady) are so impressive to me. When I see the punishment that Henry absorbs (and delivers) I have no idea how he can even walk, let alone outrun players who are almost 10 years younger than him.

Players like him, you just ride it out. You’ll get a mid 1st and I’ll pass. I think he can give two more years.

You know the drill- if you say he's done, you're going to be wrong until you're right.
As we've discussed before, his lean year will probably be a good TD year and that's a bit reassuring for FF

I’m considering shopping him as I reload coming off a championship. Currently only 👑 and Evans are key players for me over 24. I’m thinking I’d need at least the 1.05 but that seems like a lot to ask. More likely I’d be better off going with 26 1sts, but then what’s the right value?

Any chance you can run it back another year and go for another trophy? Selling RBs right now is probably the lowest price/value. The best value you will get is in season when he is scoring points. Maybe you can get some top 2026 draft picks once the season starts. I would not sell low at this point.

The offers I am getting for my RBs right now is quite low. I also assume most NFL teams will draft RBs (tons in this draft) but the elite studs like Henry will still be the starter come day one. BAL might even draft an RB but come the season Henry will be the starter. That is when you might be able to get a 2026 first. I think it would be hard for a mid-tier team to give up 1.05 for an old RB right now.

I have a team where I might offer up pick 9 for Henry.

I don't think he's worth that, and I hate giving up a first rounder for a 1-2 year rental.....but it would drastically improve my lineup

That’s probably going to be what happens. I’m definitely a contender. And Henry is my favorite player. Just curious as to his value and will consider trades.

I'd just ride him til it's over. The likelihood of you getting value you're pleased with is so slim.
Jeanty is going 1.01 and in a dream world you replace a top back with a top back. You probably have to give up a lot to get there and I probably wouldn't do it.
You did great. You won. Be leery about tinkering with a great starting group. Always stay fluid at the end of the roster.

I got Chase and gave up a first and Higgins for him a few years back. The rookie busted I forget who. He shouldn't have tinkered with his starters.

I need to remind myself that I have a first. I have a talented player coming. I'm on the top of the mountain and they need to knock me off. If I don't do this, I mess with a champion too much and I've literally achieved my goal already. I need to remind myself to chill out.

I have fallen into this trap before. It is always exciting making moves, however not making moves is sometimes the best thing for your roster and it’s chances at the prize.

I have Henry as my RB1 in a roster that is getting extremely long in the tooth after coming up short three consecutive years in the playoffs. I was 2nd, 1st, and 2nd in points scored the last three years but only have a couple of third place finishes to show for it.

The temptation to deal Henry is there but like other posters have mentioned above, there’s really no way I get back enough to make it worthwhile. I still have a little window open to contend with good drafting and management as my core is Burrow, Chase, and Bowers (TEP). Henry as the RB1 makes me dangerous every week. Shipping him for his current value seems very unlikely to turn the tides of this particular roster.

I don't get this. What is the best offer you think you would get in an arbitrary league, and what is the offer you would need? Shouldn't any player have some calculable value (though figuring out how to calculate it is the difficult part), and why wouldn't you expect anyone to be willing to pay that approximate value, whatever it is? Is there something unique about him that puts him in this "ride til it's over" category?

That’s really the question isn’t it? Set yourself up with better odds to win 2-4 years out or next season. I have a really talented young team in that league so it’s tempting to set it up even better. Or maybe keep two of the best value veterans around until the end.
Fwiw I drafted Henry 4.09 and Evans 1.12 in the startup in 2019, So there is something about them finishing their careers on my team.

Prior stories of Henry being taught and by legends growing up....
He's taken some time to chat with rookie RBs and I think that's very cool.

Kaleb Johnson interviews mention how he grew up modeling his game after Henry. At some point they started talking on the phone. Kaleb tells how Henry talked of working out, diet, and recovery. He said he has an invite to spend some time with Henry at his home in DAL or TEN nd he's hoping whatever team drafts him will allow him to since it's a dream come true. Recently he said they're trying to switch and meet up before the draft.

Imagine a day or weekend with- this is how the best does things and you get to pick their brain?

Henry and Saquan are friends and that started while he was in college.

Henry has been vocal about the RB market and held a meeting last year that was written about.

Henry is a sincere ambassador of the game and I don't think that gets mentioned enough. It's very much abnormal in this competitive environment and he's so special.

Yeah there is with him or any top back that gets old.
They're a pain in the neck in dynasty.
If a back runs for 2k he's probably worth three firsts.
If he's a 1000 yard back over 28 he's probably worth a second or third.
Everyone believes their 25 year old back will one day have at least one great season and at least multiple 1000 yard ones.
Somewhere in the above you're to find a value to agree on for Henry. It never ever ever works. Between what we know about age and injury frequency and decline, you're basically asking some dude in your league to low-ball you and send you facts you're well aware of. No one wants a low-ball offer and when they come up some then what? Trade a 2k yard back for a second?

I got frustrated many years ago, stayed out, and it's been a winning way ever since. The amount of frustration I avoid is another win.

The other side is easy too. Oz is well aware so no big deal to draft a rookie RB. Say Henry has a few 50 yard games and Oz is a little panicky. Well surely Henry isn't the only back on his roster. So he benches him and then the Ravens convert him to "just" a goal line back and now he's back in Oz's lineup getting ten instead of twenty points as a flex. It's so manageable and easy for Oz.

This has been a topic since ol yeller and I swear by it. Just ride it out. There's comfort in it being easily manageable

I don't know.
None of my leagues allow any moves right now. People act like their jobs are more important than FF 🙃
That's a concept to remember but I probably don't want to be on the other side of it either.

I have good RB depth like every older man that was raised on stud RB theory. Maybe.

So surely you're trying to acquire him in leagues where you don't have him?
I don't know.
None of my leagues allow any moves right now. People act like their jobs are more important than FF 🙃
That's a concept to remember but I probably don't want to be on the other side of it either.

I have good RB depth like every older man that was raised on stud RB theory. Maybe.
Ah, that sucks. We have trades on all off-season. But whether any are made or not, that varies. Haven't had any happen yet.

In my long played keeper league one rule we always had is we can only trade keepers off season. So any off season trades only involves players that are now locked onto your keeper list for the following season. It rarely happens but if one team is rich in receivers and another rich in running backs it works out for both.

in a keeper league/salary based, debating keeping/trading/cutting Henry .... I might have to keep him. Almost guaranteed top 3/4 RB's in the league I think and this extension I think shows BAL is committed to him
