RB Jahmyr Gibbs, DET (6 Viewers)

I know the NFL guys are saying Gibbs is gaining steam but the fantasy guys seem to be saying the opposite. For the purpose of dynasty, I am siding with the fantasy experts. Gibbs is electric but with his size and lack on interior rushing, he has a much greater downside for fantasy than I would like for a top 2 pick.
I don’t think anyone is taking Gibbs over Bijan in dynasty. Maybe redraft depending on landing spots.

What landing spots, if any, could cause you to take Gibbs over Bijan?
Bijan to Indy would be quite bad, at least for a couple years.

Maybe some team goes wacko and takes both Bijan and Gibbs. Wow, that'd be somethin eh?

You are likely right (though there is always some weirdo) but if people are posting her Gibbs is better, why not take him? Of course you would want to explore a trade first but if you honesty like Gibbs better than take him. Or maybe they are just saying Gibbs is better for NFL football?

If you concoct the absolute perfect storm for Gibbs over Bijan ... I still don't think you could get me to move off Bijan. You could really make me think about it. But I don't know, I don't think so. Our draft is usually around the end of preseason, so maybe certain developments could make it happen. You know. Bijan's in Indy and just somehow not impressing when up against NFL defenses. Gibbs is in Cincy, sans Mixon, he's looking like Kamara. Then I'm thinking about it.

Well, some leagues draft before training camp.
FFPC drafts are next week for example, so it's all gonna be based on the draft. No camp stuff to change things.

Right, then it would be way harder to script.

Someone saying, ya know, I actually rank Gibbs and Bijan closely, is just proof that the draft should have happened last week. The wait is too long, people are getting the Jimmy legs. Cracks are starting to show...

Bijan would have to go a place another extremely premier young RB had an existing contract longer then a year. So probably just the Jets and Seattle, those teams would give me some pause depending on where Gibbs went.

I think Gibbs pairs perfectly with Montgomery in Detroit. I want Kamara coming in and popping of some big gainers. Monty can grind it out and break a few runs of his own.
He would be an excellent pairing with Monty in a vacuum but what's the cost to move up and get him?
If someone like Philly wants to move up to 6, for pick 10 and 30 and we throw in 55....we could use pick at 30 to get him.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Gibbs goes to Miami and Bijan goes to a crap spot? Of course most probably feel Bijan is crap proof.

People felt similarly about Jonathan Taylor pre-draft, and then the Chiefs took CEH. Personally, I love chaos in rookie drafts, so I would love it if we got "JT vs CEH Part 2."

Maybe, certainly like him better if we by moving back then by moving up

When I feel the need to do something crazy I think about 2005 when I took JJ Arrington. I took him at 1.3 because I thought Arizona was a better spot over guys that went in the first round.

We're in peak "lying season". Why would he be prioritized over Bijan. Speed?

It's not like Bijan can't catch the ball. He's bigger, stronger, and is plenty explosive. Anyone prioritizing Gibbs would be an extreme outlier.
Speed and better receiving skills including showing way more in terms of being able to be lined up all over the field and it's not like Gibbs can't run.

Again it's not hard to understand. There are people who view JSN as like the 5th best WR because of what he brings. Not everyone is looking for the same skill set.

WOW. I definitely did not see that coming. Wonder if Swift gets traded. I don’t mind him there with Montgomery at all but with Swift in tow also that’s a real ice cream headache.

Lions selected Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

They got this pick from the Cardinals via Houston. This is a huge threat to David Montgomery and DeAndre Swift on the Detroit depth chart. Gibbs (5’9/199) would be the No. 1 back in some classes but had to settle for consensus No. 2 status behind generational talent Bijan Robinson. It’s a testament to Gibbs’ versatility and explosiveness, as he never operated as a true bell-cow in three seasons between Georgia Tech and Bama. He doesn’t profile as one in the NFL, either, though he pairs a “lightning” running style with elite pass-catching prowess. The possessor of breakaway speed, Gibbs timed 4.36 on his Combine 40 and looks that fast on film. He pairs it with equally impressive acceleration. Gibbs is both fast and quick. He’s a mismatch both in the passing game and open field. Like all smaller, speed-based backs, Gibbs isn’t as strong between the tackles, but his skill-set is no longer uncommon at the NFL level. Teams will know what to do with him in a league where Austin Ekeler is a superstar. Like Ekeler, PPR leagues will be Gibbs’ key to early career fantasy value.

Initial thought is both Gibbs and Monty could have solid fantasy value, Swift is toast unless traded.

I don’t understand.. Monty 3 years and Swift. I don’t get it
A few things:

I'm a big Swift guy but I think they are telling you what they think of being able to count on him. Also in last year of his deal and I think a strong chance he is dealt.

Monty's deal is really $11m for 2 years. Expensive for the market but not immense.

I wonder if losing Jameson for the 6 games did not impact them? Perhaps they viewed Gibbs as being a more explosive option for their offense then what they could address at WR?

Not an ideal spot for Gibbs IMO, but who knows
I truly think it's great, at least will be when Swift is totally out of the picture.

I've long defended Swift by pointing out on about 9 carries and a little under 4 catches a game he's been putting up close to 15 fantasy points a game in his career. That's Gibbs role now with obvious expectation he can expand that role by actually being healthier, as well as maybe just better then Swift in the passing game at least. That's a strong floor IMO and the draft capital is strong.

Great spot and draft capital but gonna have to wait a year unless Swift gets traded. Thought he might sneak into the late 1st so Detroit going that early with him is a big vote of confidence. Monty's contract is really a two year deal (and if he face plants they could cut him before the 3rd day of the 2024 league year and save some cash.)

Traded to where though? Genuinely curious. Haven’t even started to think it through but if someone wants to cliff notes it that would be awesome.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Swift traded
Expected and honestly if people think Swift is a problem for a year I'd go try and buy the 1.2 right now. And I like Swift, but this one seems obvious.
I mean, whatever. It's still really perplexing. If running backs don't matter then this is an F up of epic proportions.
Yeah it’s very perplexing. They must love his receiving skills.
RB's matter when they are involved in the passing game.

Lions RBs coach Scottie Montgomery says he was really impressed with Jahmyr Gibbs' football IQ and how he understands protections. Says Gibbs has elite short-area quickness, great contact balance and is a weapon from the perimeter.

Well, if Scottie Montgomery says so....

He could end up being really good, but it's not like Montgomery and Swift aren't involved in the passing game. He needs to be really good to justify #12 overall.

In real life yes, as does Bijan as pick 8.

I'm more focused on his fantasy outlook and can't say enough I don't care about Swift, that will work itself out, just wait.

ETA-I just posted what Scottie said to give insight on the pick.No reason to attack the message.

Considering the guy you quoted is a Lions fan it seems logical that the discussion was mostly from the standpoint of "real life", as was mine.

Not attacking the message, just pointing out that it's typical coach-speak, and from someone with little clout so it carries no weight.

Houston has tons of picks and could use him. Cleveland has no Hunt replacement. KC? Miami? Titans?

Granted, any of these teams could just draft someone more cheaply. But I think there are plenty of teams who could use him.

I have to believe that taking a RB that high (who is so similar to one you already have) means you have a deal somewhat in place to trade the guy you already have.
