RB James Conner, ARZ (2 Viewers)

Dang, still no update on that ankle?
Reports are that he has two. Seriously though, everything I read seems to point to a nothing burger.
Just realizing AZ plays on Monday. We wont hear anything until tmrw (which is really Wed for them).

Obviously problematic if you don't own Benson. And even if you do, I'm not optimistic he carries a significant load vs...what's his name the receiving back.

Hoping I can skip this whole situation and go with T. Tracy.

Agreed... I think Demercado would be a problem for anyone thinking that Benson would simply slide in to Conner's workload.

Which has me question, why bother holding Benson at all. All reports indicate his tape is somewhat horrid.

I don't think Demercado (who I hold in dynasty) is taking over for Conner in the event of injury. I think it'll be Benson. I'm fairly certain they're grooming him for that role. Emari runs the two-minute drill, but I'm not sure what you can draw from that. Just my opinion, so everybody's mileage may vary on that one.

Yup - domo arigato, Emari Demarcado, for being a good corporate soldier, but it's Benson's job to win/lose.

I don't think I saw Conner on the injury report. I could be blind though.
I think the official injury report comes out at 4 pm today
That's the final injury report but I believe the one's they put out earlier in the week are considered official and Conner has not been listed on it all week.
Any insight into why Benson wasn't practicing yesterday? Don't want to waste picking him up if he's injured or other.

I thought I saw somewhere that Benson was sick.... Yes Playerline app cited Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com, whatever that is

I guess there is no reason to worry that he won’t play on Monday but I still find last week’s game odd. The game script when they are behind has sometimes reduced his work but I don’t think it’s ever taken him out completely. Maybe it was a combination of the game script and being cautious.

Do Conner owners feel compelled to own Benson?

It seems like even if Conner were to go down, Benson would share the load with Demarcado. Add to this, the overall ineffectiveness of the offense WITH Conner and I'm somewhat loathe to hold Benson.

I have an opportunity before kickoff to grab either the LAC D (vs NO...minus Carr, Shaheed, maybe Olave) or the BALT D (@CLE...with who knows at QB).

Thoughts?

Murray put them in a hole last week. The whole offense looked terrible. MHJ concussed, down big early - that’s a perfect time to rest your 29 y/o RB.

Monday after last game:
Gannon remarked that Conner was doing fine on Monday and his snap count was lower due to game script and not an injury.

well, has anyone been watching Benson? there are a couple things in a rookie RB that I like to check out before betting on them.

1) does he pick up blocks/blitz when he needs to?

Team spent an awful lot of money on a contract for Kyler Murray. I dont think they wanna get their franchise QB killed. so if hes not pulling his weight that way, he may sit a while even if Conner goes down.

2) How is the team likely to use him? does he catch passes? or is he just a pure running RB? Conner has historically been able to catch around 30 balls a year. not top end but not terrible. but enough to be relevant as a mid range to high end RB2. if his skillset compares how is he better and how is he deficient?

3) competition is likely Demarcodo. how does he compare?

because he was recently drafted I know the tendency is to play him but sometimes if the other backup has skills that he lacks its not a sure thing that he slides into that starting spot when Conner is gone.

1) No idea
2) Based on limited usage, Benson has been the first two down back and Demarcado has been the receiving back. I believe Demarcado also is the 2 minute back.
3) See above

In general, I feel like Benson has been...ok. Can't say that he's flashed that extra something special that has you say, "Conner goes down, I'm getting his full production."

This is sort of what I've seen as well. but some backs tend to play better when they get a full workload and can get in a rhythm. Not sure if hes one of those. Either way I ilked his college scouting report. mostly I'm concerned about his blocking. (and whether he fumbles. I dont typically draft fumblers) but I was thinking this turns into a time share if Conner goes down.

This finger injury he's been dealing with the last two days anything? Feels like veteran rest day(s) injury designation type stuff.

🚨NEWS🚨: Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner was LIMITED in practice on Wednesday with a finger injury.

Highly unlikely to be an injury that would sideline him for Week 10, but still worth monitoring as we move forward...

Cardinals RB James Conner (finger) limited in Thursday's practice

Cardinals are signing RB James Conner to a two-year, $19 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Conner was set to hit free agency after the season, but Arizona decided to lock him up before it came to that. The 29-year-old running back is 15th in scrimmage yards with 993 in 11 games so far this season. While it’s unclear how much of Conner’s deal is guaranteed, it’s unlikely that the extension for the two-time pro bowler will cause significant salary cap issues for Arizona in the future. This extension seals last year’s third round pick Trey Benson’s fate as purely a handcuff for at least another year.

I love this. I’m considering a rebuild in the 16 team dynasty league I have a share - provided he stays healthy down the stretch, Conner’s trade value likely just increased substantially.

Happy for him the player. Has made around 21 million in salary for his career, so this is big money. His last big payday. For the Cardinals, seems kinda odd to hand out this much money to 29 year old rb when they just used a 3rd round pick on his replacement. Maybe he isn't what they thought?

The AZ offense runs thru Conner.

And, as much as people love to think of him as a perennially injured plodder, he leads the league in missed tackles forced.

I don’t think a “replacement” for Conner is that easy to find — I don’t think you believe that either.

Not showing signs of slowing down and the contract doesn't have much risk so why not.

Between Connor, Barkley, Henry, Kamara, Montgomery, Mixon, Pollard and Aaron Jones you have 8 guys who are 27 or older in the top 17 of overall rushers in the league right now...Najee and Jacobs are 26 and in the top 17 as well.

WIsh this guy was still a Steeler. Good for him.
Not to open old wounds, but I always thought it was really dumb that the Steelers let Conner walk, then spent a 1st rounder on a RB, when it was obvious OL was the big issue with the running game. Its interesting looking back that they could have kept Connor (objectively a better RB than Najee) and either traded up a couple spots for Christian Darrisaw, or taken Landon Dickerson, and had a way better running game than what they've had since.

Great to see for Conner. One of the best power runners in the NFL, real tone setter for the offense.

Can you trust him even if he's active?

They're eliminated from playoff contention. They just extended him. He's not in contention for the rushing title or anything.
If I'm the Owner/GM/HC, I shut him down.

Can you trust him even if he's active?
This is my problem. I have him and Benson. I believe I’d rather Benson start if he’s healthy and Conner be inactive
Can you honestly trust either? I'm in the same position, have both, and may pivot to Mooney at my flex this week. Cant afford a zero and Penix showed some connection with him last week.
With AZ out of it and Conner under a new contract, I have to believe if he is active he will be good to go with a normal workload. I also have both RB's, if word is Conner is GTG I think I will start him.

Sure. Fair point. If I'm Arizona--Benson showed me enough already. No reason to let him go out and get hit either.

I'd look at it the opposite.

They're out of contention. No reason to rush a career injury-prone guy back and risk re-injury that could possibly linger into next season.

You just re-signed him. They'll want the most bang for their buck starting next season.

They also have a rookie RB with fairly high draft capital invested in that I'm sure they'd love to get an extended look at at the end of a lost season.

My main point is "if he is active". Your points are valid and they may very well bench him because of these reasons but I would think he will only be active if they feel he good to go without fear of doing any further damage.

My only trepidation is Conner really wants to play in every game for the 1st time in his career but could he only get limited amount of plays to accomplish this??

Bolded is a very good point.
