I just don’t think Coleman is very good. He had plenty of chances in Atlanta and to me proved that he’s a good backup but nothing more.
Heh, funny how we can all see the same thing so differently, as this is exactly how I feel about McKinnon.I just don’t think Coleman is very good. He had plenty of chances in Atlanta and to me proved that he’s a good backup but nothing more.
In either case you got the wrong guy.The nice thing about this in dynasty is that if you own McKinnon, Coleman is affordable.
And if you own Coleman, McKinnon is ~cheap.
I don’t disagree with that either. I actually think Breida is the best but isn’t built for a lead role. I’m trying to get him cheap where I can though.Heh, funny how we can all see the same thing so differently, as this is exactly how I feel about McKinnon.

49ers placed RB Jerick McKinnon on the active/PUP list.
McKinnon was always likely to begin camp on PUP following last year's ACL tear. GM John Lynch said McKinnon, who has yet to play a down for the 49ers since joining San Francisco on a four-year deal in 2018, suffered a recent "flare-up" to his surgically-repaired knee, though his stint on the PUP list is expected to be a short one. TE Garrett Celek (back), FS Jimmie Ward (collarbone) and C Weston Richburg (thigh) were also placed on PUP to begin camp. McKinnon's continued absence should give free-agent signing Tevin Coleman a chance to assert himself as the Niners' lead back.

Breida looked better to me than Coleman has except for that stretch he had a few years ago.jm192 said:Coleman going to run away with this.

49ers activated Jerick McKinnon (knee) from the active/PUP.
There was some hope McKinnon would be activated late last week, but he ended up needing a few more days. Recovering from last September's ACL tear, McKinnon will probably take it slowly his first few days in practice, but getting back on the field this early in camp at least gives him a shot to earn a role in the 49ers' loaded backfield. As it stands, Tevin Coleman is the favorite for the lead job.

Jerick McKinnon will receive a platelet-rich injection in his surgically-repaired knee and be sidelined the next two weeks.
McKinnon was experiencing soreness after returning to practice. Despite coach Kyle Shanahan's "two weeks" hope, McKinnon should be considered questionable for Week 1. "If he’s ready, that would be great," Shanahan said of two weeks. "If not, we’ll be patient with him." McKinnon is now a distant third on the depth chart behind Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida. It is sad that it has taken McKinnon's poor health, but one of the league's most confusing backfields is clarifying a bit. McKinnon is a shaky draft/hold in re-draft leagues.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows projects Jerick McKinnon to open the 2019 season on injured reserve.
McKinnon had a setback on his injured knee, and the 49ers now have limited options since the team prematurely took him off the active/PUP list last week. The Niners can make McKinnon inactive until he's ready to play, or they can place him on injured reserve, which would keep him sidelined for eight games but does free up a roster spot. It's a decision the 49ers will make in a couple of weeks once they see how McKinnon is progressing, though it's been a slow rehab thus far. This projection further solidifies Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida as buys at their current ADPs.

How you think the people who gave him $30,000,000 feel?Well that’s seven dollars of auction money I’ll never have back. Going to keep my fingers crossed and hope he has a nice little recovery in the next two weeks.
Jerick McKinnon (knee) remains limited to individual drills in practice.
McKinnon is 17 days removed from undergoing a PRP injection in his surgically-repaired knee. The Athletic's David Lombardi reports the "earliest" McKinnon will return to team drills is next week. Lombardi's colleague has projected McKinnon to begin the year on injured reserve. McKinnon is off the board in fantasy leagues.

Kyle Shanahan said Jerick McKinnon might return to practice this week.
McKinnon's knee remains a problem, but a return to practice in the next couple of days would leave open the possibility of McKinnon playing early in the season. With that said, McKinnon still has his work cut out to carve out a role behind Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida, and The Athletic's Matt Barrows recently projected McKinnon to begin the season on injured reserve. McKinnon should only be drafted at the very end of drafts as a flier.

Jerick McKinnon (knee) returned to 49ers practice on Tuesday.
It was McKinnon's first practice in nearly three weeks. There had been rumors that McKinnon was a candidate for injured reserve, but that is not looking likely now. The 49ers could still stash him there and make him a candidate for return if they make the move after final cuts. The only thing clear with regards to McKinnon right now is his depth chart standing. He is a distant third behind Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida, and is off the board in fantasy drafts.

Speaking Wednesday, GM John Lynch indicated Jerick McKinnon (knee) suffered another setback in his return to practice Tuesday.
It's being described as a "flare-up." McKinnon has attempted to return to practice twice this summer and has suffered setbacks both times. Lynch said, "Yesterday was not encouraging." At this point, it would almost be a miracle if McKinnon is ready for Week 1. We'd also say there's a non-zero chance the Niners just decide to cut their losses and move on from McKinnon instead of dragging his unhealthy body onto the 53-man roster. That or he simply gets sent to injured reserve. PUP is not an option.

Short-term IR seemed like the most likely outcome once McKinnon needed PRP injections earlier this month. Have to wonder if he’s in danger of missing the entire season. #49ers had big plans for him last year as their top tailback and third-down weapon.
He's still on our wire too. Hmmm...Matt Breida will be a big beneficiary with this news.
49ers placed RB Jerick McKinnon (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
McKinnon is done for the year and isn't eligible to return in 2019 unless he's somehow released with an injury settlement at some point. That seems unlikely for now. McKinnon missed all of 2018 with a torn ACL and has experienced multiple setbacks in his recovery. McKinnon will never play a down for the Niners and will at worst be released next offseason. He'll be 28 at this time next year and may never be the same player we saw with the Vikings.

49ers RB Jerick McKinnon underwent his second knee surgery this week.
McKinnon's ACL is fine — the surgery repaired some lingering issues with his knee. He'll spend all of 2019 on IR and is a longshot to be back with the 49ers next year. McKinnon's release carries $4 million in dead money. It wouldn't be surprising if he's designated a post-June cut this offseason.

49ers RB Jerick McKinnon said he's "willing to do whatever" to stay with the organization.
"I’m willing to do whatever," McKinnon stated. "The organization knows I want to be a part of this team, so when that time comes there will be a talk between both parties." McKinnon has long been a post-June cut candidate after suffering a season-ending setback stemming from his torn ACL in 2018. With no guarantees remaining on his contract, the team can save $4.55 million in cap space by moving on. It's truly a wonder whether the 27-year-old has any juice left following multiple knee surgeries.

49ers GM John Lynch confirmed the team will ask Jerick McKinnon to take a pay cut.
For his part, McKinnon has already signaled a willingness, saying after the Super Bowl he would be "willing to do whatever" to remain in San Francisco. McKinnon is currently due $6.5 million after carrying the ball zero times in two years as a 49er. Going on 28, McKinnon's outright release would free up $4.55 million in cap space.

NBC Sports Bay Area reports Jerick McKinnon has agreed to a restructured contract to remain with the 49ers.
In 2018, McKinnon signed a four-year, $30 million contract, but he's yet to play a single regular-season snap with San Francisco. A preseason torn ACL and a failed rehab has cost the playmaker two years of his prime, his starting job, and dollars off his contract. Coach Kyle Shanahan will continue operating as a run-first offense but having multiple backs rotating in-and-out of the starting offense has made this a nightmare to figure out for fantasy. That probably won't change with McKinnon taking a pay cut to hang around. McKinnon will be entering his age-28 season if he can overcome these knee injuries but taking a wait-and-see approach with him is the safest bet for fantasy purposes.

Jerick McKinnon (knee) has yet to resume cutting.
“I think there’s always that critical last juncture of a rehab where you go from running straight ahead and even trying to simulate some of the cutting that goes on at that position, specifically,” GM John Lynch said in an interview. “Then, you go play football and it becomes much more reactive. And that’s where he struggled. He’s continued to put in work. There are some positive signs that we’re on a better track.” Lynch stopped well short of guaranteeing a complete return and meaningful role for McKinnon in 2020. With his base salary slashed from $6.8 million to $910,000 following two seasons lost to injury, McKinnon is in "prove it" mode with both the 49ers and fantasy players.

RB Jerick McKinnon
He missed his first season with the 49ers when he sustained a torn ACL one week before the start of the season. Last year, his season ended before it started when the surgery from his graft did not fill in properly.
McKinnon was an elite route-runner before all of his knee issues. Shanahan made it a priority to sign him as a free agent in 2018 because he envisioned flooding the middle of the field with McKinnon, tight end George Kittle, a slot receiver and fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Shanahan felt those players would cause all kinds of matchup problems.
McKinnon looks good in his workouts, and the 49ers are cautiously optimistic he will finally provide what they were expecting when they signed him two years ago.
Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida were good backs. But none had the route-running skills of McKinnon.
The 49ers’ best route-runner out of the backfield last season was Jeff Wilson. His ability to juke a defender in man coverage was the reason Shanahan called upon Wilson to run the route that won the game against the Arizona Cardinals. Late in the first half of the Super Bowl, Wilson went in for the same reason and caught a 20-yard pass.
Mostert is working hard on his route-running, and he likely will make improvements in that area. McKinnon is not likely to be considered for every-down duties. But he will have opportunities to make a considerable impact on third downs.
The Athletic's Matt Barrows is "bullish" that Jerick McKinnon (knee) returns to full health.
The last we checked in with McKinnon, he had yet to resume cutting. That's apparently changed. Barrows reports McKinnon has "been pushing his surgically repaired knee more strenuously than he did last year, and so far it’s responded." With limited offseason practice and even less media access to base decisions on, reporting like this is huge. McKinnon figures to be the No. 3 back behind Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman, but we all know how quickly coach Kyle Shanahan can change the pecking order of his backfield. McKinnon is an upside pick in the very last round of deeper fantasy drafts while Mostert is a boom-bust RB2/3. The Athletic's David Lombardi also notes, "The team can save over $1 million by releasing Coleman and replacing him with Ahmed or Hasty, but it seems Shanahan would prefer to ease the rookies into the mix through the practice squad."
