RB Joe Mixon, HOU (6 Viewers)

Well, FWIW, Hill was placed on IR. This actually happened a couple of days ago, but I completely missed it because I'm hoping last week is the last time I need to start Mixon this year, so I haven't been paying attention. That said, this can only help him if we're forced to plug him in due to injuries. It seems like last week is the best we can hope for, with a TD that should have been overturned but wasn't.
I only own him in one legaue but it's my most important one and if I miss the playoffs by one game it will due to using this guy. This week I'm starting Darkwa over him. Mixon may be quite talented but if I'm not mistaken he's at the top with Abdullah at negative runs. His line BLOWS! Hard to start a a guy like this....

Yeah I’m sitting him for Crowell at RB2 this weekend.  Just can’t see him finally getting going at TEN.   But the Hill to IR might result in a handful more touches at the start of the game.

He is going to have to blow up on my bench first. Can't trust 16 carries for 40 yards hoping for a Td. Starting Robbie Anderson over him this week

With Hill IR'ed and Gio not proving as explosive, I think Mixon is a major volume play going forward in my lineup. He's in this week over Chris Thompson vs Minnesota and beyond. I will reevaluate his status around playoff time.

I have this inexplicable trust that if even with Cincy's futility, he has enough talent to get the job done each week from a FF sense.

Love the volume but hate the matchup today. Titans have been very tough vs the run. Forced to start DT vs New England at Flex.
I understand the DT play over him but I do believe Mixon sees plenty of catch opps even if he expectantly gets stuffed in the rush. Not to mention, he is the exclusive goal line back now. This could save him weekly if the catches don't.

I am rethinking this now.

Anyone starting Mixon with confidence today?

The recent receiving yardage by RB vs the Titans has been with Pass catching specialists like Buck Allen, Duke, and Prosise. Not sure what to make of it pertaining to Mixon.

I have Howard and Kamara so I am deciding my Flex between Mixon/DT. The thought of 15-20 touches with Mixon is great but his terrible line, terrible matchup, and low odds for a TD make it hard to pull the trigger.

On the season, the Titans are giving up 22.8 PPG in full PPR. The league average is 23.1. Over the past 3 weeks (2G - CLE & BAL), it’s 26.3, the 8th most FFPA to RBs.

If you want a reason to bench him, the Bengals O-line play has been...offensive. But I’m not all that concerned with the Titans D.

In over Martin for me.

ETA: Titans defensive line is average

Didn't watch the game, so what happened?  Was it game play or was Murray the better back of the two .... sounds like it's going to be a frustrating remainder of the season.

I'm hating this @ Denver matchup. This feels like a get right day for the Denver D and should be a low scoring affair. TD opps will probably be limited but perhaps receiving saves the day? Grasping at straws I know but I'm not feeling great about my flex options (Benjamin @ LAC/Morris vs Philly).

I play in a 3 keeper dynasty PPR but I'm putting more weight on producing this season since I have decent keepers (Dalvin/tyreek/aaron jones etc.)
Anyways I am RB starved and with just Bell and Doug Martin since my other RBs got hurt...

I've been going back and forth if I should try and trade Dez for Mixon?

I haven't seen Mixon all year really and I want you're opinion on the potential for ROS with Hill on IR. I think he's got 15-20 touch potential and I know his amazing scouting profile out of the draft, but I need to know if you guys think he could really take over and be a factor.

plus Dez has been super bleh and I can replace him

His ROS is rough, his o-line is trash, his coach is wonky and his YPC stinks. I'm in the same sort of 3 keeper league and I traded him away because, like you, I have better keepers. Wasn't a hard decision. There's no questioning his talent but he's in a bad situation personnel-wise. I wouldn't expect anything more than low-end RB2 production.

Yeah I was kinda hoping for some of you to reaffirm his 'eye test' for me since I haven't seen him...
His schedule is tough and there just hasn't been any production from him all season. Of course there is the scenario where he gets so much volume he becomes a sure-fire RB2 w/upside but I will temper expectations.

I'm still curious about his long term value since I'm almost sure they are not going to resign Jhill and fully commit to him in 2018 but THANKS! for reaffirming his possible production ROS

Cincy's situation has rendered him Crowell 2.0 but with more talent. He'll flash at times and he's startable if the matchup allows but he's a fringe flex most weeks.

Long term? That's entirely up to the Cincy's GM. Marvin Lewis (+ staff) and J Hill have got to go away and huge OL upgrades need to happen for Mixon to reach his potential. He's got every down back written all over him but so much has to happen. He's a dynasty hold but not a re-draft keeper.

I think the main problem here is the offensive line isn't playing well. The Bengals did use high draft picks in advance preparing for the transition from Whitworth and Zeitler who have been two of the best linemen at their positions for several years now and continue to be for their new teams, the Rams and Browns. The guys the Bengals drafted to replace them haven't panned out and the whole offense has regressed as a result of that.

Add in the fact that Mixon doesn't have good vision for running between the tackles with the poor offensive line play and you get what Mixon has been doing so far. Not really more effective as a runner than Jeremy Hill even though Mixon is a much more elusive RB. There is a reason why Oklahoma was using Perine to run inside and schemed Mixon to be used in space most of the time and that reason isn't physical ability but a lack of vision/instinct of Mixon in that role.

Mixon is a great receiver and in space option, but so is Giovanni Bernard, so that caps Mixons opportunities to be used as a space player and to get high volume targets in the passing game. Mixon is being forced into Hills former role and that isn't really what Mixon is good at. Hell Bernard probably has better vision and runs better inside than Mixon does, but the coaches do not seem to be willing to use Bernard in that way consistently, even though he has been successful in that role when they have.

For PPR Mixon and Bernard are almost an even split in targets meaning neither one is getting enough volume there to at least be useful from that angle and collectively the whole team is not running the ball well.

Mixon certainly has talent and can make some amazing plays at times, but he has never done the dirty work of just getting consistent yardage running between the tackles and that is what the Bengals need right now.

I would assume the Bengals prioritize upgrading the offensive line during the offseason and if there is a coaching change perhaps they bring in a coach who will build the offense more around getting the most out of Mixons strengths. I think Mixon is a good buy target in dynasty but I am not sure if the price has come down enough yet. Given how much people loved him as a rookie prospect I am guessing it hasn't, but maybe in some cases it has.

The outlook for the rest of this season is not at all promising. Difficult schedule ahead.

Denver

Cleveland

Pittsburgh

Chicago

Minnesota

Detroit

I guess there was a reason this guy fell to the 7th round in our 12 team PPR league.  Turns my stomach that I have to plug him in the starting lineup in my must win game.

Watching these 1-3 yd runs all day is brutal. What % of blame goes on the Oline? 80%? I don't see anything more than bottom RB2 #'s ROS.

100%. Saw a stat this week Mixon has the lowest yards per carry before first contact. Sat him for Collins today.

Volume without production.

easily 80% towards OL and FO/coaching staff for letting the OL get this bad. These idiots let Andrew Whitworth walk after a pro bowl season and now he creates holes for Todd Gurley and covers Goff's blindside.

100% is a joke. The line does stink but Mixon's vision is not up to snuff.  This was reiterated over and over by scouts when he was a prospect but nobody wanted to listen because they were too focused on the ridiculous narrative that he was a flawless prospect with off the field issues.

He wasn't doing any better with his carries than Hill was and he's 3x the athlete of hill. Yes the line is bad but he should be doing more out there than also-rans like hill and Bernard.

I remain optimistic that he can be a stud with his ability if he figures out how to read the field. Some guys learn it but for some it just never clicks.

He hasn’t really shown much this year to differentiate himself from the veterans. I know once upon a time some services had him as the best RB coming out of high school but throughout PS and the first 11 weeks he has seemed underwhelming.

He is met the point of the exchange with such regularity I think it’s hard to judge how good he is.

It is hard to judge, but we had no problem moving Jeremy Hill from promising young talent to slug veteran when he produced the same results behind this oline. Granted, the oline is even worse this year but it’s been awful at run blocking for at least a year and a half.

In Waldman's Top 10 article this week he noted that Mixon looks much better than the boxscore and not to sleep on him next year. The line is putrid, but I'm still hoping for a few decent games to close this season

Mixon's likely to go in the RB15-20 range in FF drafts next year.  It'll be interesting to see how Cincy addresses the o-line through free agency and the draft. They should be set next year at WR/TE (maybe lose Eifert) and QB, for better or worse. Seems like a good position for Cincy to spend their draft on o-line and defense. Mixon is starting to shine now and could be a nice value in FF drafts next year with some o-line additions.

Defense is always key with RBs, you need a lead to keep running the ball.

If he finishes strong I can see top 10 range. Not too many goal-line/receiving/workhorse backs anymore.

The Bengals' OL did a fantastic job opening holes for Mixon this week. He did what a good RB should do.

That said, I'd trade Mixon for Hunt in a second. I believe Hunt is not only more dynamic, he's got better instincts.

Mixon seems to have trouble when the hole isn't initially there. In general, I believe he's a little overrated as far as his ability to be dynamic.

I still have high hopes for Mixon so I do like him, but if we're comparing prospects, I'll take Hunt & it's actually not that close right now (for ME).

Just to be clear, my rankings are probably more fluid than most FFers & I could upgrade Mixon & downgrade Hunt depending on what happens, but despite Hunt's recent struggles, he's got a higher upside, IMO.

Joe Mixon exited Week 13 against the Steelers with a concussion and will not return.

Mixon was sandwiched by a pair of defenders in the second quarter and immediately fell face-first to the ground. He appeared to possibly be knocked out. Mixon laid there before eventually walking off under his own power. Before leaving, Mixon rushed seven times for 34 yards and caught one pass for eight yards. Giovani Bernard will be the every-down back the rest of the way.
