RB Joe Mixon, HOU (3 Viewers)

I’d say it’s safe to say this is the dude we all thought we were drafting this year.

Drafted him because at the time David Johnson and Bell were kings and he seemed like a better version of both of them. It's always been there, just team was to reluctant to feature him in the passing game. As talented he is and as much running volume as he's been getting his upside is still now what we drafted without the passing down work. I'm still concerned they won't feature him nearly enough as those two aforementioned RB's but hopefully we continue to see some improvement.

Joe Mixon had 28 rushes for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' Week 12 win against the Steelers, adding four catches for -2 yards.

Mixon would have easily had more than 200 rushing yards if the Bengals hadn't rested him in the fourth quarter, up 38 points on their division rival. The Bengals force fed Mixon on the team's opening drive and had no reason to stop against a Pittsburgh defense that's now given up 355 yards on the ground over their past two games. Mixon's four receptions on four targets was hopeful usage, even it resulted in negative yardage. With six scores over his past three games, Mixon has as much touchdown equity as any back in the game. The Bengals' game plan is clearly to feed Mixon whenever game script allows. He'll be a locked-and-loaded RB1 option in Week 13 against the Chargers -- one of the league's worst run defenses.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Joe Mixon did not practice Wednesday because of an illness.

Taylor added that Mixon is not believed to be dealing with COVID and instead has a head cold. Mixon briefly left his Week 13 game versus the Chargers with a neck injury but returned shortly after exiting. His illness-related absence means we won't get a clear update on the neck issue until he returns from the head cold. If Mixon were to miss time, Samaje Perine would be the next man up.

Perine took a pretty nasty hit himself this past week. His knee looked like it hyperextended and he hobbled off to sideline. I wonder if he practiced today.

Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson said Joe Mixon (illness) is "looking more and more like a game time decision" for Week 14.

Mixon was seen at Friday's practice wearing sweats. He's missed an entire week of practice with a non-COVID illness that could keep him sidelined this Sunday against the 49ers. Samaje Perine would operate as the Bengals' lead back if Mixon is out against the Niners. Perine would be a touch-based RB2/3 with some PPR upside if he gets a full workload. The Bengals have been among the NFL's run-heaviest offenses (51 percent pass rate) over the past month.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said he "expects" Joe Mixon (illness) to play in Week 14.

Taylor's Friday comments are more optimistic than Bengals beat writers who posited Mixon would be a game-time decision after a full week of missed practices. Mixon drafters should make sure they pick up Samaje Perine if he's available on the waiver wire. Perine would function as the team's lead back if Mixon sits against the 49ers. The Bengals play in the 4:00 ET slate, making this situation more difficult to parse for fantasy managers.

Perine worth a stash for non-Mixon owners?

Would be a tough one as I would have to decide who to cut to make room (while already rostering Mattison and Pollard).

But with Gordon's status unknown and relying on Javonte...Barkley being meh...could be a sneaky play for that run heavy team.

I'd bet on the off chance Mixon doesn't play, they won't be a run heavy team.

Perine probably is worth a flier, to teams that have a spot, and are desperate, but he's not even close to Mixon's talent, and won't be used as such, and I'm of the belief Mixon is playing until he's ruled out.

Perine has proven to be a very good handcuff IMO. Team has shown trust in him. Might be a better receiver than Mixon.

That offense is clicking and Mixon has missed a lot of time.  When he's out Perine steps right in and takes over the workhorse role.  He's a must own backup RB imo (whether you have Mixon or not) unless benches are really short.

He's in that Mattison type group where he's a stash can help win you a title if the guy ahead of him misses time during the FF playoffs.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Joe Mixon (illness) is expected to play in Week 14 against the 49ers.

Mixon didn't practice all week but non-COVID illnesses are typically easy to bounce back from. As long as he's feeling good, Mixon is in line for another RB1 outing. He has scored in nine consecutive games and is averaging 25.7 carries per game since the Bengals' bye week. Even against a tough San Francisco defense, fantasy managers can trust Mixon for elite fantasy numbers.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Joe Mixon suffered an ankle sprain Week 15 against the Broncos.

The good news is Taylor expressed optimism about Mixon's availability for Week 16 but did say the running back will be limited to start the week. It is also promising Mixon was able to play a few snaps with the injury before watching the rest of the fourth quarter from the sidelines. It sounds like Mixon is on the right side of questionable as of now, but this is obviously an injury to monitor throughout the week.

Joe Mixon (ankle) is practicing Wednesday.

Coach Zac Taylor said Mixon is "feeling good" after spraining his ankle in the Week 15 win over the Broncos. It was his second straight scoreless 58-yard rushing effort after going nine consecutive games with at least one touchdown. If Mixon is able to play, which it sounds like he's on the right track, he'll be an obvious volume-based RB1 against the Ravens.

Joe Mixon (ankle) was not given an injury designation for Week 16 against the Ravens.

Coach Zac Taylor seemed confident Mixon would be able to play early in the week, and the running back proved him right with full practices on Thursday and Friday. Mixon has not been a fantasy star as of late, but his workload makes him nearly impossible to bench, especially with the COVID-depleted Ravens on deck.

Joe Mixon rushed 21 times for 88 yards in the Bengals' AFC Championship Game win over the Chiefs, adding three receptions for 21 additional yards.

Much to DFS players' frustration, Mixon ceded the biggest backfield play of the day to Samaje Perine, who housed a screen for a 41-yard score. Beyond that, Mixon out-touched his third down running mate 24-3. Regardless of who the Bengals face in super Bowl LVI, establishment of the run is guaranteed to be a theme. We would expect Mixon to handle the rock 20-plus times for the fourth time this postseason.

Joe Mixon rushed 15 times for 72 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' Super Bowl LVI loss to the Rams, adding five receptions for one additional yard.

As usual, Mixon was yanked off the field on many critical third downs. Also as usual, it cost the Bengals dearly, with Samaje Perine coming up short in a number of critical situations. Mixon rebounded from his injury-ruined 2020 to post new career highs in carries (292), rushing yards (1,205) and total touchdowns (16). Both the carries and yards were third most in the league, while only Austin Ekeler, Jonathan Taylor and James Conner found the end zone more frequently. Mixon’s passing-game usage was frustratingly inconsistent as the Bengals proved shockingly committed to getting Samaje Perine third-down reps, though Mixon’s 42 receptions were the second most of his career, and 16th most amongst running backs. Somehow already heading into his sixth year in the league, Mixon has never quite commanded an every-snap role, but he is more than close enough in this elite offense. 26 years old in July and signed through 2024, Mixon will remain a shoo-in RB1 for 2022.

Joe Mixon expects to run through “gaping holes” and “crush” his previous numbers

The three new additions to the Bengals’ offensive line has the veteran running back feeling good.

...Next year may be Mixon’s best yet. This is because of the huge upgrade at offensive line, where the Bengals added La’el Collins, Alex Cappa, and Ted Karras. As a result, the sixth-year veteran foresees “gaping holes” to run through.

“I definitely look forward to the three new additions,” he said. “The numbers that I put up before, I only hope to crush those numbers.”...

"Gaping holes." Joe Mixon on what it's going to be like running behind the #Bengals new offensive line.

Have a feeling this could be a monster season from Mixon, but drafting him means I have to read Ben Baby's non-informative injury tweets daily.
Mixon is going to be a beast this year. i loved getting him at 2.12 last year. Sadly that won’t happen again. Fortunately there are still enough haters & folks who were burned by him in past seasons to make him a 1.10-2.05 pick, barring any significant hype build up in the next 4 weeks before I draft. 🤞🏼

Is he really falling to the end of the first?   He burned me in the past but seems like he could have a fantastic season with all the talent in Cincy.

I have the 7th pick in half PPR big money league. This is an easy decision for me to take him here. He’s the number 2 RB on my board. Along with the Bills this is the best offense in football, he’s only 26, they got huge upgrades on offensive line, and he’s a good talent. A perfect situation for a bell cow fantasy RB going into his prime. What am I missing?

He certainly is in line for a decent amount of work in a great offense with a revamped line. But number two is a bit high, one thinks. Consensus tells us he's about RB5 or RB6, though I see why you would elevate him. All preference at seven, I guess.

"Only 26" is a bit of an oxymoron for an NFL RB. But I agree, I love Mixon this year.

In half PPR I personally have it as:
Taylor
CMC
Ekeler
Jefferson
Kupp
Henry
Mixon

The case could be made for Cook or Harris or Chase there too, but if you have him as your RB2, and he's there at #7, then that should be a no brainer pick for you.

Joe Mixon rushed 27 times for 82 yards, adding seven receptions for 63 yards on nine targets in the Bengals' Week 1 overtime loss to the Steelers.

Mixon totaled 34 touches in the game and, excitingly, saw nine targets. Mixon's passing game involvement was partly due to game script. Joe Burrow threw a pick-six on his first attempts of the game, and the Bengals never led in the game. However, they weren't ever in desperation mode, keeping Mixon heavily involved as a rusher while benefitting from early down check-downs. Still, Mixon out-targeted Samaje Perine 9-to-5, which is a good sign for his receiving upside this season. Mixon was also heavily involved at the goal line, including converting a 4th-and-1 by running to the four-yard line. He was stuffed at the line on the next play. He never got in the end zone, but there should be better days ahead. Mixon will be an RB1 play against the Cowboys in Week 2.

Joe Mixon rushed 12 times for 24 yards in the Bengals' Week 3 win over the Jets, adding three receptions for 14 additional yards.

Mixon came into Week 3 averaging only three yards per-carry and he did nothing to boost that. He struggled to find running room and was visibly frustrated at times when his number wasn't called. His usage so far is what has kept him a popular fantasy choice, but today was a day for the Bengals' passing attack. Mixon did not take any carries in the fourth quarter as he left the game and "hobbled" off the field. Samaje Perine handled the touches the rest of the way. We will keep you posted with Mixon's status as we receive it.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Joe Mixon (ankle) should be good to go for Thursday's game against the Dolphins.

Mixon was unable to finish Sunday's game against the Jets, with Samaje Perine handling all of the touches in the fourth quarter. Taylor doesn't appear to be concerned about Mixon's status heading into a short week against a Dolphins defense that's allowed 100+ rushing yards in each of its last two games. Assuming Mixon is a full-go, he's a low-end RB1 in Week 4.

Joe Mixon rushed 24 times for 61 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' Week 4 win over the Dolphins, adding four receptions for 13 additional yards.

Mixon was being slammed into brick walls in this one, though he thankfully converted one of Zac Taylor's many predictable run calls into a five-yard score in the first quarter. Mixon and his line pushed the pile with some extreme conviction. Unfortunately, Mixon was stopped on a whopping five other carries inside the Dolphins' six-yard line. That included two- and one-yard attempts. Not ideal. What is ideal are Mixon's continuously voluminous workloads. He will remain locked in as a top-eight RB1 for Week 5's likely high-scoring affair with the Ravens.

The o line is just brutal.

No push. None.

And beyond that, not seeing Mixon break any tackles when he does get a crease. Last night he seemed extremely "tackleable" in 1-on-1 situations with DBs.

My pre-season "MIixon is a top-5 RB" thoughts appear to be off-base at this point.

$73M paid on this line to upgrade. I guess we need to hope that it’s a chemistry thing that will improve over time. That said, Taylor’s play calling is atrocious. Run it up the gut where there is clearly no hole, or three wide sets.

There are holes that he ain't hitting though. Maybe he is playing not 100% - can only hope because otherwise getting late-state Ced Benson vibes. Hope the 10 days off help him get it together .

Mixon has games like this. He always has and he has stretches of games like this and then he explodes for a couple of weeks. He is an RB2. He always will be with RB1 upside. They were okay with scoring on that last goal line series but also okay not scoring wanted to run the clock down and make Miami use their timeouts. Mixon also was a little dinged up coming into the game. He got a lot of dump offs which is good in PPR. Mixon will be fine just have reasonable expectations for him.
