RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (2 Viewers)

I hope he doesn't go to Miami. Potential cap casualties next year and savings include X ($18M), Ogbah (sure thing at $10M) ), Baker ($10M) , Cedric Wilson (done at $7M). Plus JT would count big vs the cap. How can you replace a starting CB and LBB and more with little cap space and only a 1st, and no 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round pick. Keep the 2nd and roll with Mostert, Achane. Ahmed, & Brooks who combined might be better at receiving and short yardage than JT.

If you win the Superbowl this season I think the fans will be fine.
Maybe they’ll go full Rams mode and mortgage the next decade on one shot at the Lombardi now.
Good luck with that, as stacked as the AFC is this season.

Ian Rapoport says that the other team that is interested is shocking. He won't name them since he doesn't know how firm their intentions are.

If there's any validity to the shocker, my guess is that it would be one of the teams whose top RBs are on one-year franchise tags:

Giants, Cowboys, Raiders

Is anybody else here who keeps F5ing this thread also someone who has zero shares of JT, but owns Deon Jackson, Raheem Mostert, and Jeff Wilson in the same league and can't wait for the trade news to finally happen so you can finally figure out who to waive for a DST and kicker? I know I can't be the only one out there.

Evan Hull here, but yes, monitoring closely.

I just read somewhere the Bears are OUT on Taylor.
Yeah, I have no idea, just throwing out ideas.

I agree with the RBs are less important vibe, but this is always thru the lens of Super Bowl teams. Oh, look at Eagles, and Pats many years.

But if you are NOT a team with a great defense and QB, I dunno, maybe having one of the best backs in the league is a good idea.

I have 1 share of JT, but am in a similar situation of waiting for this domino to fall and figure out who to cut and pick up a DST. So you're not alone!

Today is deadline day for Colts RB Jonathan Taylor to find a trade partner. While there are interested teams sources tell
@TheAthletic, I’m told as of right now the Colts have not been presented with a significant offer. There is still time.
Not surprising.

While technically true, it's highly unlikely that some team is going to swoop in at the final hour and blow the Colts (and JT) away with an offer.

I hope he stays a Colt. He won't sit out the regular season because he's still on his rookie deal and probably doesn't have enough coin in the bank. I don't see him giving up a paycheck.

A true holdout will never happen but he might say his ankle’s not right for a long time.
Back. Back injury. A little tweak. "doesn't feel right". Always go with the mystery back injury. There's a reason nonsense like chiropractors exist. The back is a gigantic mystery to the medical profession.

Why is today the deadline? I know it's cutdown day, but no reason he cannot get traded later, right?

I think he's rolling with the ankle and not the back because the Colts are maybe trying to say the back injury happened away from the team so if that's why he can't play they don't need to pay him.

The deadline is self-imposed by the Colts and I believe has to do with the PUP. If you are still on it after today, you have to stay on it the first 4 weeks.

Despite the Colts deadline for sure I think up until the actual trade deadline as long as he's still a Colt and has not signed an extension a trade could go down.

Why is today the deadline?
Colts owner arbitrarily stated today was the deadline.
It isn't exactly arbitrary, it's the same deadline for teams to cut down to their 53 man rosters and for when they have to decide if they're going to take him off of PUP or not.
Sure but there is nothing preventing a trade from happening tomorrow or the next day or a week from today.
Other than the apparent lack of teams interested in paying the asking price, of course.

I was just pointing out that the deadline wasn't arbitrary at all, it coincided with other deadlines. At some point teams need to try to put aside the distractions and focus on the season, today seems as good a day as any.

Even more important than his bank balance is his seniority status. He's on PUP, so not a holdout, but if he fails to report in any form then he loses his Accrued Season. Since he's not a vested veteran he would be back under the same contract struture in 2024 - one year remaining on original rookie deal and team maintains "5th" year option into 2025. These RB have zero leverage until they complete 4 seasons and become Vested Veterans, which Taylor has not.

Excellent point

CIN? They have space this year. They have 30M+ next year in space with 50+ players signed for next year.
I'd be a little shocked as a lot of that money is going to go to extending Joe Burrow and probably Tee Higgins. Both of which are much bigger priorities than getting Taylor would be.

Dolphins just released Myles Gaskin.
I see no correlation. Miami was never going to keep 5 RBs, and Gaskin was behind Mostert, Wilson, Achane and Ahmed. If they dump Jeff Wilson then we can give it some weight.

I think its less than 50-50 he actually gets dealt. He's playing week 1 regardless, so I still think its crazy he's falling out of top-25 picks in drafts. Dude has 0 leverage.
