RB Josh Jacobs, GB (3 Viewers)

I will believe Jacobs is going to seen a big uptick in targets in the passing game when I see it.  If it happens, he could certainly outdo his current ADP, which seems too high at the moment, but if not, he will need to pull a D Henry and score a crapload of touchdowns to justify it.  In the age of PPR, a RB almost always needs to catch a lot of balls to be a top FF RB.

 
It's almost odd that they are stacking their entire roster with pass catching backs.  Jacobs, Richard, Bowden, Booker, Riddick? 

That's all passing down backs and Jacobs.  Very odd.

One could interpret the Riddick signing, as Bowden isn't ready, and Booker hasn't impressed(which is funny since Denver signed Riddick for the same reason) I think its highly unlikely all 5 RB's make the team.

I think Jacobs will be used in the passing game, not as much as some other top RB's, but I'm not expecting Derrick Henry like targets numbers either. I'd take the over on 30 catches for Jacobs. 

I've got Jacobs as RB8, and a sneaky candidate to win the rushing title.

 
JOSH JACOBS RB, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Raiders beat writer Vic Tafur insisted the team signing RB Theo Riddick was a "depth move." 

Tafur urged fantasy writers and managers not to "work yourselves into a lather" over the team signing the pass-catching specialist. Noted. Tafur didn't say anything about the other dozen pass-catching backs on the Vegas roster. It would be an upset if Jacobs is worked into a reliable receiving role this season. Even without much pass game involvement last year, Jacobs averaged 16.8 touches in Raiders losses last year (and 24.2 touches in wins).

If Josh Jacobs stays healthy, he'll be a top 5 RB this season in Half-PPR. I don't think he gets the passes people expect, purely because I think that Derek Carr tries to show off by down field passing for the first time in a long time. 

 
The Athletic's Vic Tafur expects Josh Jacobs to "easily double" his 2019 receptions total of 20. 

The Raiders signed Theo Riddick over the weekend, but Jacobs getting more involved on third down has been a common August refrain from both the press and coaching staff. Jacobs has the ability, so catching 40-50 balls is well within the range of possibilities if the Raiders give him the chance. Tyrell Williams (shoulder) suddenly appears unlikely to be ready for Week 1, but the Raiders have an overabundance of compiling/possession-type pass catchers. That will continue to make receptions a question mark for their excellent second-year pro back.

Well, 2 weeks later and both Bowden and Riddick are gone. The over 30 catches prop looks like a lock right now. I almost wonder if I'll regret taking Chubb over Jacobs.

Chubb is extremely talented.   I don’t think you will have any regrets.   That is not a knock on Jacobs.  His value went up a little with Bowden gone too.   

 
If Richard and Booker are the only others on the RB depth chart, so long as he stays healthy, I can’t see anything less than 330-350 touches for Jacobs.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you didn't actually. But I think the real choice between evils was CEH, Jacobs, Sanders, and Chubb. So far, you've got it over on two of those guys.

I got Sanders next in round 2. So I got that going for me... which is not nice.

Had 4 catches off 6 targets for 46 yards. 

Richard, our historical pass catching back, was 1/15 off 1 target.

Booker, who may be our new pass catching back, was 3/23 off of 3 targets.

Not sure if I think Jacobs' target/reception ceiling is any higher, but the main criticism and fantasy hope for him coming into the season was that he wasn't involved in the passing game.

We'll see if this holds, but Jacobs is just continuing his studly trajectory.

 
Josh Jacobs is listed on the Week 2 injury report with an ankle issue but practicing in full. 

There is zero indication it is a concern ahead of Monday night's game against the Saints. Jacobs gutted through a lingering shoulder issue for the majority of 2019. Hopefully his ankle does not linger in the same way, but the "full" designation suggests that will not be the case.

Josh Jacobs rushed 27 times for 88 yards in the Raiders' Week 2 win over the Saints.

He added three catches for 17 yards on three targets in the passing game. Jacobs averaged a low 3.3 yards per carry in this one, but he was able to again pile up 30-plus touches for the second week in a row to open the season. The bad news for Jacobs is he saw FB Alec Ingold and TE Darren Waller vulture him for three- and one-yard touchdowns, respectfully. Jacobs has a much tougher date on the road against the Patriots in Week 3. It will be interesting to see if Jacobs stays as involved in the passing game with the Raiders as clear underdogs.

Josh Jacobs (hip) did not practice Wednesday.

Darren Waller (knee) was also sidelined Wednesday. These are new issues for both players but could easily just be maintenance days after big workloads Monday night against the Saints. Jacobs will get a much tougher Week 3 draw on the road at New England, but he's still an RB1 at a position decimated by injuries.

ESPN's Paul Gutierrez reports there was "no sign" of Josh Jacobs (hip) or Darren Waller (knee) at the start of Thursday's practice. 

It's still possible these are merely rest days after a Monday night game, or that Jacobs and Waller will eventually emerge to get in a "limited" session, but the concern level is now officially on the rise. We will get official word on their Thursday status later this afternoon. Jalen Richard and Devontae Booker would form a committee were Jacobs to sit against the Patriots, with FB Alec Ingold likely sprinkled in.

Even a "limited" Friday session would have Jacobs on pace to return for Sunday's clash with the Patriots. Jalen Richard and Devontae Booker will be ready to form a committee if Jacobs missing another practice, though Jacobs is already the kind of player who could fail to practice and still suit up on a Sunday.

If Jacobs were to miss a game I prefer Richard over Booker based on his ability to catch the ball.

 
Have the luxury of having Jacobs / Henry / Taylor / Robinson at RB in a 1RB / 1 Flex PPR league. Was even considering Benching Jacobs anyway for Taylor/Henry this week based on matchups. Not sure if Pats throw Gilmore on Waller then sell out to stop Jacobs and force Carr to work around that? 

I was actually considering trading one of the RB away for a bit of help at WR, but this uncertainty already has me reconsidering and keeping the depth. Particularly with players dropping like flies this year. 

Hoping this is much ado about nothing with Jacobs' hip. 

 

 
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Raiders RB Josh Jacobs (hip, questionable) is expected to play in Week 3 against the Patriots

Jacobs and Raiders TE Darren Waller sat out of practice until returning on Friday. Las Vegas played on Monday night so the missed time for their top weapons was likely a precaution. Jacobs is set to face a stingy New England defense in Week 3 but he's seen nine targets and 52 carries through two weeks. He's one of the league's most-used backs and projects as a low-end RB1 going forward.
