RB Latavius Murray, BUF (1 Viewer)

A little soon for the obituary? It may be Day 4 but it's not a typical prep week so maybe they're just giving a few days extra rest as a precaution. If Murray's not doing anything physical Tue/Wed then yes I'm a little worried.

Monday is usually day-after film review

then Tuesday off

because there was no game Sunday, the staff are within the CPBA rules to practice them today.

(KFFL)Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (concussion) remains a question mark heading into Week 13 against the St. Louis Rams. Head coach Tony Sparano said Murray hasn't passed the league's concussion tests yet. "Right now he's involved in the middle of it," Sparano said. "We'll see where he is by tomorrow and have a pretty good idea what's going on for Wednesday. As you know these things take time or they can be very fast. It just depends on the player and the severity." Murray did not practice Monday, Nov. 24.

Even if he gets cleared, we have one other potential issue. Here's how RBs fared on the ground in the Rams' last 3 home games:

C.J. Anderson - 9/29/0

Marshawn Lynch - 18/53/0

Frank Gore - 16/38/0

That definitely gives one pause.

yeah that's why I sat matthews this week

12/105/1

I guess what bugs me about this is I want him promoted to starter or at least hear he is in line for something like the majority share of carries but if he doesn't practice until Friday then that's probably going to mean he will end up with the same role for at least one more week.

Where was the game?

Please tell us you know I was trying to get Larry to tell me what a game in San Diego has to do with St. Louis holding RBs in check in their last three HOME games.

His point was more about the Rams holding some pretty stout RBs in check than it was about location and you know that.

Righteous comeback RN considering you clearly stated the criteria of those Rams run defenses were at home in your post. Some people having RIF moments.

Or you are trying to lawyer up a Internet forum. Now get back on topic counselor.

Did the Rams get a missing piece of their defense back? They still give up on average 4.6 YPC at home which is 7th worst in the NFL. Overall they give up 4.4 YPC which is 10th worst in the NFL. Although Football Outsiders has them ranked as the 6th best run defense DVOA.

I wouldn't say a missing piece, but donald has gotten a bit more involved as the year has gone by, whereas he was more rotational earlier in the year.

I think week 6 his snaps took a bit of an uptick.

Good info. Also looks like their YPC are skewed because of C. Patterson's one long run week one. He finished 3/102/1 that game.

Peterson was ok 21/75 and Murray (DeMarco that is) ran well 24/100/1.

I'm still starting him out of desperation if he goes. And hey, KC hadn't given up a rushing TD all season before last week ...

speaking of donald -- just saw this

edit: more from PFF

Aaron Donald, DT: +4.1

Breakdown: He’s received plenty of ink in his inaugural season already, but Donald turned in another performance that’ll keep him atop the rookie leaderboard. A sack and three other defensive stops highlighted his day but he spent the rest of it forcing runners off their paths and drawing double teams.

Signature Play: 2Q 12.31, Donald muscled Charger guard Johnnie Troutman aside and pounced on a shovel pass to secure the tackle for a loss.

I would also say that maybe it's not that the Rams got someone back, but maybe that they just started playing the way a lot of people thought they should have all year. Tons of talent on that D, even with Long out for the year.

Raiders just don't want to mess up getting the #1 draft pick.
have we not been through this? This has 0 bearing on whether or not a player plays or not. Coaches are trying to win games. They get fired when they lose and so does front office, see bill&chris polian & Jim Caldwell.

I'm a little bit surprised there isn't more discussion on Murray after one of the most exciting breakout performances we have seen in recent years.

I wish we had seen Murray play a full game then we could have made a determination. Still it's interesting to me that Reece came in and got 8 carries and not surprisingly because he is a great athlete and runner he got almost 5 ypc. Needless to say that is way way better than the pathetic totals for Mac & MJD. All in all Reece and Murray together got 12 carries, Mac got 12 carries, MJD got 3 carries. That might have been where they were going that night. It's possible they awere and are envisioning a 50/50 carry share at least. One major question is if they can stay in a game long enough to run like that. I see the Rams have given up 6 100 yard+ team rushing totals this year. I am not sure if I see the point of the home/away discussion, 3 of the 100+ games have been at home, 3 have been away. They have become very tough but still the yards have been there and their offense is not exactly formidable. I'm guessing this is a game the Raiders think they could win if they play it right.

After Murray showing his potential and Reese playing well, I could see this being a feasible RBBC. I don't know how Murray does in pass protection though, so I could also see Reese playing the higher % of snaps and Murray being the change of pace back.

I hope the MJD/DMC approach has seen its last day. That was unbearable to watch. Watching MJD play was almost unbearable.

Especially in a nationally televised game... Maybe the concussion has something to do with it or maybe it's the Raiders but I was able to grab Murray with 10th waiver priority. Struggling all year to scrape a couple competitive backs together and will go forward with Mason, Crowell and Murray. I need to catch lightening in a bottle and Murray's size/speed combo might be the ticket. Now, if only the Raiders don't screw this up...

I have the same rbs (along with Forsett) and need to start one of them. I am leaning towards Mason right now, but am curious how you rank those three for the playoff stretch.

Went through the concussion protocol yesterday, we should know a lot more today.
The whole protocol is a process that takes several days

If he's doing some running and light exercise that is good

Than they re-test and clear for football drills

then they test again and clear for practice/playing

Not crazy about the Bils match-up, but intend to go Mason and Crowell this week. Murray is facing an improving Rams defense, coming off a concussion and it remains to be seen how the Raiders rotate their backs. Really like Crow's schedule after that and, as long as the arrow keeps pointing up, expect him in the line-up weekly. Best case scenario is the Murray proves a viable starter and I can pick either him or Mason based on opponent.

If I had to start one, it would be Mason at home against the Raiders.

the raiders make every RB they face look like Emmit smith

The has Raiders disaster written all over it but I don't have much of a choice. If Murray's healthy, I'm certain they will still trot DMC out there and give some asinine reason Murray rides the bench. The Raiders just don't have any sense.

Nobody can be that dumb. They have to give Murray a lot of playing time the rest of the year to see if a starting RB is a need in the upcoming draft. They'll probably just tease everybody giving him 7-9 touches a game and it will be painfully obvious he's and incredible talent and then they'll draft Gordon with their first pick.

I am not really that concerned. It is only his first day back and DMC was named the starter in the last game too (and I would assume that he had been working with the first team). Let's see how the rest of week practices go.

This means he's been cleared for football drills. This is good news.

The next step is to test for concussion symptoms. If he passes, he's good to go

Latavius is prime for a transforming game!

I'm so confident I am benching Joke Bell tomorrow and reserving that spot with a candle for Murray.

I think we saw a shift in the Raider RB paradigm this past week. In the most important drive of the game last week the Raiders had Reece carrying the ball. I think they have finally moved on from DMC and MJD. At least I hope so.
