RB Najee Harris, LAC (4 Viewers)

Before the season started, assuming no injuries, I predicted Hampton would get 60% or more of the RB touches and Harris would get 35% or less. I see no reason to deviate from those predictions.

How we feeling about this backfield after last week? Think Hampton has left door open.

So hard to say. I thought Hampton was running hard, but Harris seemed just a little bit more effective. Hampton seems more likely to bust a big run, but Harris was a little better at getting yards that weren’t obvious.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see a more even split in touches in the short term. I do expect it to be more 65/35 as the year goes on though. Hampton will play better as he gets more used to the NFL and has to think less.

Coaches don't care about our team or how many touches Hampton gets.
If Harris is getting it done and they like what they see compared to Hampton, he'll get more touches than him.
Coaches watch these guys all day long in practice. They know who is better.

I think it’s worth a speculative add if coaches ride hot hand with how the offense is flowing more pass heavy so far. Dynasty Hampton is obviously the future but for redraft I think Harris has a chance to take opportunities as the experienced vet ala JK dobbins with Harvey, Rhomandre with Henderson.

Maybe it's the Najee manager in me now that he's on my roster, but I think of this situation as being both a part of the "rookie RBs need time" narrative AND similar to the Quishon Judkins "Not practicing all summer slows you down" narrative. It's easy to forget that Najee is also still getting up to speed and learning a new system. Sure, Hampton could come out and absolutely blow up and make Najee's role irrelevant, but if he continues to struggle and the Chargers continue to look good we may see them ride with Najee.

Again, I admit my bias, as I have no Hampton shares and a single Najee share. But it'll be a situation to monitor until it isn't.

I think they ease off Hampton for a few weeks.
During this time, Najae is goaline back + early down.

Then later in the year I expect Hampton to become much better and take over. This is his backfield don't get confused about that.

Well Harris got 1 more touch than Hampton last week despite playing far less, so it’s certainly possible. Hampton has made a big mistake in each game played so far. They might try to give him some time to get up to speed. But unless he keeps making mistakes he should have a much bigger share as the season goes on. I think the playing time this week should tell us a lot.

I picked him up. This team has lofty goals and Hampton just doesn't seem to be cutting it.
The fumble last week absolutely opened the door. My assumption is Harris was going to be the guy until Hampton fell to them in the draft.
Then the eye injury.

Injury does not look good looks like an Achilles

Yup. Pretty obvious

Injury does not look good looks like an Achilles
I've seen that before- definitely an achilles.

Oh for goodness sake. Not a good year for Najee and he really didn't have a step to lose.

Sad. Hoping for a speedy and full recovery.

immediate drop for Brashard Smith(you never know)
I did this exact thing in a Yahoo league that allows it. I don't agree with that rule and being able to drop a player that should be "locked" but if others are doing it so will I.

Having said that it is horrible to see for Najee - I have always been a fan. Tough.

The most durable player in the NFL since he entered it IMO. I doubt he's ever missed a game in his whole life and if he did it was in high school, junior high or pee wee.

Goes to show you can't predict injuries.

Sucks for him but I don't think he's done. But he's going to be 28 FA and best he'll probably get is a league minimum type deal with no guaranteed roster spot. Obviously no dynasty value now, easy cut at end of season or if you run out of IR space before that time.

The problem is that his explosiveness and big play ability were already marginal, and he doesn't figure to come back from this any faster or quicker than he was. It's a shame for him because he had bet on himself in a one year prove-it deal and it looked like he was going to be a big part of this offense. Hampton has been very JAGGy so far and Harris is a prototypical Harbaugh type of back. Actually, Harbaugh recruited him very hard at UM and Harris was interested. I think Michigan was his second choice after Bama. Harbaugh finally got his guy and then...welp.

What can you say? It's a brutal sport. I can't fault players digging their heels in to get the big payday whenever the opportunity arises. Your window to earn can be very short in this game.
