RB Nick Chubb, HOU (6 Viewers)

Nick Chubb rushed 21 times for 100 yards and caught one pass for five yards in the Browns’ Week 4 win over the Vikings.

It goes down as Chubb’s first 100-yard rushing game of the season, but he’s now failed to score in back-to-back games. His lone reception gave him four catches on the season. When Chubb isn’t finding the end zone, his stat lines leave a lot to be desired in fantasy with his empty pass-game role. Chubb was stuffed at the goal line in the first half before Kareem Hunt (14-69-1) converted from one yard out a few plays later for the Browns’ lone touchdown. Chubb will be a TD-dependent RB1 next week at the Chargers.

Blurbs like this are maddening. He scored one less point than Kamara, who also didn't score a TD.

Of course if guys don't score TDs their stat line is diminished compared to guys that do. Duh.

Nick Chubb rushed 21 times for 161 yards and one touchdown in the Browns' Week 5 loss to the Chargers.

He caught his lone target for nine yards. Chubb started the second half with a 52-yard touchdown rumble on the opening drive of the third quarter. He ran through several arm tackles and stiff-armed another defender on the way to the end zone. Chubb now has back-to-back 100-yard games on the ground and has at least 83 rushing yards in every game to this point. The touchdown was Chubb's first since Week 2, even though Kareem Hunt stole another two in this one. Chubb will be a TD-dependent RB1 next week against the Cardinals.

Just got an update he’s OUT this week?
me too.  I remember seeing something earlier in the week about him not being spotted at practice, but I just figured veteran day of rest or something so this caught me off guard for sure.  RBs dropping like flies, I tell ya.  Derrick Henry and his 87 points a game and adamantium skeleton are going to win people a ton of leagues this year

Short week also as the Browns play at home next Thursday against the Broncos. Hopefully some of it is maintenance-related and the extra rest gets him right, but idk.

Well, he was a non-participant on Mondays practice.  Read they wont have a traditional Tuesday practice, so we wont really know much until Wednesday.  Short week isn't working in his favor.

There was no practice on Monday - his "DNP" is an estimate.

As of this AM looking doubtful.

Checking in with sources on Browns injuries last night and this morning: -Sounds like Nick Chubb unlikely to play Thursday. -Too soon to know on Beckham, Mayfield and others. -Team awaiting results of 2nd opinion on Mayfield left shoulder MRI. Could be Case Keenum vs Broncos.

There's a joke here about Chubb slaughtering his fattened calf to appease the football gods. But I can't quite put it together.

I hope he's back next week. A few healthy games with no hunt would be magical.

Josina Anderson reports Nick Chubb (calf) is expected to play in Week 8 against the Steelers, barring any setbacks in practice.

As Anderson noted, Chubb still needs to make it through a full week of practice before playing. For now, we'll assume he returns to his normal workload as a low-end RB1 this week. It remains to be seen how the Browns will replace Kareem Hunt, who is currently on injured reserve with a calf injury. D'Ernest Johnson dominated the Broncos this week with 146 yards on 22 carries but profiles as the backup to Chubb. Demetric Felton earned three receptions and two rush attempts in that game and would fill Hunt's pass-catching role more naturally. Both backs are worth holding onto in deeper leagues but the backfield figures to be Chubb's to lose until Hunt returns.

Nick Chubb (calf) was a full participant in Friday's practice and is not listed on the Browns' injury report.

The Browns lead the NFL in EPA per rush, and Chubb has been a big part of their success. The fourth-year star ranks first in PFF's elusive rating for the second straight season. Chubb should be aided by Baker Mayfield's return, both because Mayfield will generate more efficient offense than Case Keenum, and because the Browns are heavily incentivized to protect Mayfield with the run game. Mayfield is playing through a fracture in his shoulder, and the Browns are likely to lean on Chubb as much as possible this week. Chubb is high-end RB2 option against the Steelers this week.

Nick Chubb rushed 14 times for 137 yards and two scores, hauling in his only two targets for 26 receiving yards in Cleveland's Week 9 win over Cincinnati.

Chubb, clearly healthy in his second game back from injured reserve, put the Browns up 14-7 in the first quarter with a one-yard score then padded the team's lead with a 70-yard tackle-breaking explosion in the second half. Seven of D'Ernest Johnsons's eight touches notably occurred on Cleveland's final two drives as Chubb out-touched the former 16-1 to that point of the game. With Kareem Hunt sidelined on injured reserve for (at least) one more week, Chubb should again be considered a strong RB1 in Week 10 against New England.

How good is this dude. He is one of those players that I always stay away from. I don’t know why. He is an absolute stud.
Because they still don’t give him the ball enough. He’s GREAT… but his touches can’t be trusted on any given week like a bonafide RB1.

(he’s still a bonafide RB1)

I honestly believe he'd be every bit as productive as Henry or Taylor if they would just give him the same touches. He's soooo good...and underutilized in that offense...ESPECIALLY when they had a lead.

6 carries in the first half, 8 in the second. And they were ahead all game.

The time of possession in this game was kind of crazy with a big advantage to the Bengals. The Browns just kept scoring too quickly. The Browns didn't run that many offensive plays and Baker didn't really have that many pass attempts either. Chubb was the only back getting carries when the game was still in question.

Yeah weird game with the pick 6, the 60 yard bomb to DPJ, and then Chubb’s own 70 yarder. 3 quick strike long tds.

The way they (don't) use him sometimes drives me nuts. I believe there was a turnover the possession after his 70 yard TD. Inside the 10, and D'Ernest Johnson is in. I understand trying to keep his workload manageable, but not right there. Johnson isn't Hunt. Chubb was hot, and I thought they should've gone right back to him there. It turned out not to matter, but I thought they missed a good opportunity as I believe that possession they didn't cash in for a TD.

...besides, I really could've used another TD there for my fantasy team. I appreciate trying to keep from wearing these guys out, but Chubb and Aaron Jones (my other RB) are spelled far too often in situations where points are available.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Nick Chubb tested positive for COVID-19.

It's a nightmare scenario for the Browns and Chubb drafters. Chubb, who is vaccinated against COVID-19, will need two negative tests 24 hours apart if he's going to play in Week 10 against New England. D'Ernest Johnson would slot in as Cleveland's lead back if Chubb were to miss the game. Johnson impressed in Week 7 against the Broncos, running for 146 yards and a score in a dominant performance. He would be a borderline RB1 if Chubb is sidelined.
:wall:

Does anyone know when he can get his first test? Is it M, Tu, W, Th, F, Sa and then 24 hours later, correct? This goes for everyone. I would want to get a negative test asap so I could get another one asap.
I believe they can get tested at anytime.  Problem is that it is highly unlikely that we will find out until he is ruled out or they announce he passed the 2nd.

I read somewhere that he tested positive on Tuesday, but was vaccinated? We don't know if he's sick or is asymptomatic. That's all I know... It sounds kinda pessimistic though that Chubb would play. Idk, I hope he plays and is healthy.

Get a contingency plan teed up that doesn't play Thursday then check back in Saturday to see if he got on the team flight. Decision make then.
