RB Omarion Hampton, LAC (2 Viewers)

Vegas line has him at 1050 and 7 tds. Vegas is smart. That line gives me some peace in my heart for his first year outcome. The betting line puts him at rb3 right out of the gate. Upside is off the charts.
What website did you go to to see those numbers?
Only thing I can find a tweet citing Caesars Sportsbook

Seems to read as total yards not rushing yards
One good thing you can do with that link is compare the RB's. Does Jeanty having 300 more total yards and 2 more TD's than Hampton sound about right?
I think it does. Jeanty is the defacto heavy usage back, whereas Hampton is competing with Najee.

Yep. Vegas player props are just fun to look at.

NFL RB rankings, 1-32: Where does each team's starter land heading into 2025 season?

Excerpt:

Some of you might be surprised to see Hampton ranked higher than No. 6 overall pick Ashton Jeanty, based on their respective standings in my pre-draft RB rankings, but hear me out. Hampton joins a Jim Harbaugh-led offense that loves to the run the ball, so there will be plenty of touches to go around. He should be the bell cow for this unit -- with veteran Najee Harris in the backup role -- thanks to his patience and ability to bounce off defenders. Hampton is in the perfect situation to find early success, and while you could say similar things about Jeanty, Pete Carroll's recent comments (which I'll get to in a minute) swayed my opinion some.

I'd read this article (thanks for posting, Faust). If Najee is indeed healthy I can't say I agree with Maurice Jones-Drew here. He makes it sound too easy for Hampton and I'm not all that convinced Najee won't prove stubborn regarding his own removal. I do hope Najee saves his coin because he probably won't see another payday like this one, but to anoint Hampton so quickly strikes me as folly.

Right. Like we don't think Harbaugh is also going to feature Najee at a minimum 25% of the time? Come on MJD. That said, the recent unfortunate injury to Najee does open a window of opportunity for Hampton to really establish a big lead in the backfield.

Chargers RB Najee Harris sustains superficial eye injury during Fourth of July event

Excerpt:

Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris sustained a superficial eye injury at a Fourth of July event but is expected to be ready for the 2025 NFL season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday.
Harris' agent, Doug Hendrickson, said a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to his client and multiple people attending the event.
"Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees," Hendrickson said in a statement, via Rapoport. "Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season."
The Mercury News first reported Harris' accident.
Rapoport added that Harris is likely to miss the start of training camp, which begins July 17 for the Chargers.

Chargers 2025 Training Camp Preview: Can the Run Game Become Among the Best in the NFL?

Excerpts:

Hampton rushed for at least 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in each of his past two seasons and was an integral part of the UNC offense.
The rookie now forms a duo with Harris that the team believes is a perfect fit.
"He brings that same type of mentality Najee brings. Like I said [before the draft], we're looking for someone who compliments but also offers the same," Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz said following the selection of Hampton.
"I think he's going to fit right into that physical mentality with that speed and explosiveness as well," Hortiz added.
They've wasted no time getting to work and fitting right in, either.
"Right now it looks like, as my grandmother Marie Harbaugh would say, like peas in a pod," Harbaugh said of Harris and Hampton. "They are two peas in a pod."

Player to Watch: Omarion Hampton

Hampton won't be relied upon to carry the entire load of the backfield with Harris next to him — but there is a lot of excitement for what he can provide the team.
The rookie running back displayed it all during his time at North Carolina whether it was running the ball, catching it or blocking during pass plays.
And even with the pads not on yet, he's already left an impression on the staff so far.
"His willingness to do anything and everything to help our team," Harbaugh said when asked what has stood out about Hampton so far. "Hungry learner, listener and then go out and execute the instruction to the best of his ability.
"That comes from good parenting, it comes from good coaching, but we're the lucky ones to get a guy like Omarion," Harbaugh added. "He just does it day after day."
Perhaps one of the more intriguing areas to watch with Hampton is what kind of explosive juice he can add to the run game.

Hampton ranked third in college football last season with 45 rushes of at least 10 yards, according to Pro Football Focus, and had a long run of 75 yards.
The team will be able to get a little more glimpse when the pads come on, but there will be a lot of excitement every time No. 8 carries the ball once the season gets rolling.
"Omarion, I felt like he's the total package," Roman said. "His vision, which I'm really pleased with what I'm seeing out there right now.
"In the offseason the running game stuff, you got to be real quick to judge because you're not in pads and we're taking care of one another, we're working on some fundamentals," Roman added. "But his ability to, even in that situation, you don't see a lot of guys find the hole like he's doing right now. That's pretty exciting."

Dwain McFarland
Omarion Hampton: was likely to overtake Najee Harris for the lead role anyway, might happen sooner now.

Ranks 10th all-time in the Rookie Super Model since 2017.

73% of comps in model posted a top-12 finish before Year 3.

This is an RB1 profile, y'all.
There is really no objective box he doesn't check.

Size: 6'0" 220, average hand size
Athleticism: 4.46, 38 inch vert, 96th percentile broad jump so he is fast and explosive

Mockdraftable best athletic/size comps include Bijan, Judkins, Addai, Breece Hall. Playerprofiler has his best comp as Jonathan Taylor.

Production: 85th percentile college reception share, 71st perecentile ypc, 90th % dominator (amount of the offense that flowed through him), 4 star recruit, became the 1st true freshman at UNC in 50+ years to have a 100 yards rushing, he put up 3700+ total yards and 33 TDs over his sophomore and junior season.

1st round pick in the draft.

On an NFL team with a franchise QB, proven HC and OC, good OL, with a run heavy philosophy and the only other back of note is out indefinitely with injuries to his eye or eyes that is serious enough to miss camp.

Hampton is a slam dunk pick in all formats right now.

Both eyes? I don't believe I had read that, do we know it is both?

Let me fix that I don’t know actually

In case anyone wondered or cared about this kind of thing he is going to be playing in the "game" tonight.

Probably going to get like 2-3 carries against backups and I'm looking forward to it!

me too. I've only ever seen a couple of the replays they showed during the draft (I don't watch much JV football). He turned out to be my 1st ever dynasty draft pick a month ago. I have a powder blue Tomlinson jersey from back when he won me my 1st money championship (got lucky and got him the next season for a back-to-back championship). Hoping to eventually getting a Hampton jersey to add to my collection.

I wonder if we're going to see Najee Harrs getting any carries?

Elite Drafters
Omarion Hampton

He will need to do a better job getting down hill. He has the size to run thru this CB.
Yeah I thought he was going to score. Good tackle by Rock Ya Sin. It feels like that is a TD 4 out of 5 times.
Also Vidal was in almost the same situation and tried to truck Rock Ya Sin. It ended with Vidal getting knocked off his feet so maybe it was smart Hampton didn’t try that. RYS wasn’t playing around.

Los Angeles Chargers

Rashawn Slater sustained a torn patellar tendon in today’s practice and will undergo surgery to repair the injury. He will miss the 2025 season and be placed on Injured Reserve.
Just brutal. The amount of injuries in this league dampens my enthusiasm for the sport. And not just because my favorite team has this happen every (multiple times per?) year but I also hate it when it happens to the fan bases of other teams as well. It’s deflating.

stinks but still have Hampton as #2 rookie behing Jeanty
Yeah this shouldn’t change anything if Hampton is your 1.02 in dynasty. The Chargers have Slater and Alt both locked up for the next 5 years at minimum (I’m assuming fifth year option for Alt plus franchise tag after that if he isn’t extended before that). This should however adjust some people’s rankings for redraft. Might see Hampton’s ADP dip below someone like Hubbard for example.

Interesting that he dressed and ran out of the tunnel, but he got no playing time. I think that tells us Harbaugh about to lean on this guy this season.

Hard to really say with Najee, but given he's still hurt...

230 carries (45% of total rushes for team)
1102 yards
9 TDs
8% target share
42/32/253/1 receiving

Pretty good season. I think that's about the upper bound given the committee approach and the hard schedule they face. I suppose there's upside if Najee is out all year and they don't use another back to replace him really?

All is quiet on the Hampton front. Might be a good thing?
For a 1st round RB with such good pedigree, quality landing spot and injury to the veteran backfield partner, I am very surprised Hampton's ADP hasn't skyrocketed yet
just went mid-2nd in an Underdog BB draft i did. we're there.
agreed. I’m taking him 1.2 in my rookie draft that starts on Saturday

But from the 1.7 in my 12team 1/2 ppr redraft league….im not sure he makes it back to me at the 3.7

Well yeah in rookie drafts he has been locked into 1.02 as an average spot since May. But you guys are probably right that the average we see for redraft is lagging and he's probably more likely to go 3.01 now than 4.01.

I would lean towards not likely. Pretty consistently gone by mid-3rd in a lot of 12-team leagues I'm seeing, regardless of format.

Drafts I've done in the past week....

FFPC BB 12-team - He's gone 3.06, 3.05, 3.05, 3.03, and 4.02. Lasted to 3.07 once out of five times.
12-team local redraft - 4.01 (but that's a tiered PPR league that favors WR and especially TE, not to mention only needing to start one RB)
16-team local redraft (must start two RB, scoring favors RB) - 2.10
