RB Theory - Duce Staley (1 Viewer)

Team Legacy

Duce is being shopped, this is public.

Duce is an excellent short yardage guy.

Dungy has lost Mungro for the year.

Mungro was the short yardage situation back in Indy.

Connecting dots here... of course, I've gone crazy months ago...

If this were to happen, would Duce do any damage in Indy?

Rhodes can't stay healthy and well, isn't very good. Addai had a great camp but hasn't proven anything, not even in his college days. Athletic? Yes. Fast? Yes. An NFL Calibre back? Your guess is as good as mine.

If my grandma had a penis, would she be my grandpa?Am I missing the point of this totally hypothetical post?

Rhodes "isn't very good"? Based on what criteria? Granted, he didn't get many touches when Edge was healthy but that was hardly Rhodes fault.
The past four years have been tough for Rhodes. James had a deal with the coaches. He was one of the few players who could come out of the game if he felt tired. All he had to do was tap his helmet, but the tireless James hardly ever did so, making life tough for Rhodes.
When called upon, Rhodes has produced and his stats attest to that. So what do you base this on?As to the question: I don't see the Colts signing Duce but IF it happens I don't see it significantly affecting either Rhodes or Addai. Rhodes is the veteran that knows the sysetem and Addai is the heir apparant. Duce might vulture a TD or 3.

As long as people are speculating about what teams will do to improve their lot at RB, this guy's idea about Staley being traded or signed by Indy doesn't seem any less possible than anything else that could happen.

And it would also seem to be something that would benefit Indy since they lost Mungro.
Rhodes is a quality back, but I question his ability to stay healthy. Addai is gonna be a bust IMO. Workout warrior that does not translate onto the football field and he has question marks about his ability to stay healthy also. It will probably be rbbc this yr to keep Rhodes healthy and justify spending a 1st rd pick on Addai. If I had to choose it would be Rhodes on the gamble he could stay healthy.

Rhodes can't stay healthy and well,
And Duce has been a model of perfect health ove rhis career?I don't see him as being able to beat out either Rhodes or Addai for any PT. The loss of Mungro means that the 5 touches he would have gotten this season goes to either of these guys.

I doubt Duce is going anywhere. For one, the Steelers are lacking depth at RB. Other than Parker and Haynes they have no one if they trade or release Staley. Secondly, who is going to give more than a 7th round pick for Duce? No one.

Maybe I am reading this whole situation wrong but I don't buy the rumors the Steelers were trying to trade Staley. It just doesn'tmake any sense unless they feel the guy is completely washed-up.

Poor argument. History has shown us that good RBs get their shot somewhere or another regardless of who they're stuck behind. If he were good enough to be a solid NFL starter someone else would've grabbed him by now. See LaMont Jordan, Priest Holmes, Chester Taylor, etc. All those guys were stuck behind great RBs but got their shot somewhere else before they were at the point in their career's that Rhodes is at now. I can't recall any RB EVER sitting on the bench for 5 years and coming out and doing well as the new starter for their team, if they were a good NFL RB someone else would've grabbed them by now. I can't even recall so much as a trade rumor regarding Rhodes...in 5 years no one has shown even a shred of interest in acquiring him to be their starter, no other NFL teams obvioiusly thought he was "very good".

Ummmm....Rhodes IS getting his shot. And a team did decide to go with him. This is what Indianapolis did when they chose to let Edge go for the money.

Any back with 1,100 yards and 9 TDs in a 15 game season should not be disrespected so easily. Is he a superstar? No. Is he obviously without talent?

The data argue otherwise, and much more persuasively than "history has shown good backs get a shot somewhere but this doesn't count as a shot".

If Shaun Alexander went to Denver, would he put up 45 TDs?

Based on what? He couldn't earn the goal line duties in Pittsburgh.

Hey, maybe Staley will go to Cincinnati? With Perry having a pissing match with the trainers, he may be on the PUP to start the season, if not there already. (Yes, I am kidding)

What about Miami, they need some relief for Brown?

Realistically, who knows. With drafts coming up for most this weekend, I am not worrying about Staley or any other backup or #3 RB until they do get traded. Too hard to predict.
