RB Ty Johnson, BUF (1 Viewer)

With kerryon on IR now he is the go to rb and slides into mid rb2 conversation

Edit: unless they trade for someone such as(kenyan drake), or bring back cj anderson

Total speculation:

trade for Kareem Hunt?  Relatively cheap (salary-wise), better option than Ty Johnson (IMO) or any FA they could sign, and Patricia saw Hunts ability first-hand, as he was NE DC when Hunt exploded his first game as a rookie.

Couldn’t play for 2 weeks, but NYG and Oak?  Set should go 1-1, maybe 2-0.

Like I said, complete speculation on my part.

No way imo.

I’ve immediately put him on the block in my dynasty. CJ Anderson can easily come back and #### right on this parade. In fact, I expect it with the NFL the way it is anymore.

Let's follow what's logically next and see who actually comes up with the solution to what the Lions will ultimately do.

Kerryon Johnson goes to IR with earliest return week 16 - they could be in the hunt for a wildcard spot.

Ty Johnson at the main helm with some other RBBC share,  or the Lions sign a veteran, an Ajayi type, a practice squad player, or they trade for someone? Lots of options. Is it C.J. Anderson?

For us playing fantasy, where do we put our investment? Spend a bunch of FAAB on Ty, or go in another direction altogether?

thought McKissic looks better
I thought the knock on McKissic is he is not built like a feature back and is more a COP/passing down back. Having not seen a lot of McKissic outside of his brief spelling duties on Seattle before going onto IR, I am not sure what to think about him, save for that he has the same height as Ty but is about 20 lbs lighter.

Both Ty and McKissic look to have roles -- and I'd wager Ty is the guy that gets more pure run down looks -- but their value could crumble entirely if the team goes out and signs CJ Anderson, Ajayi, or anyone else.

Very interesting waiver period, this week.

McKissic stinks.  He's not even really a running back, more of a slot guy who plays out of the backfield.

He can't stay healthy in a limited receiving role, so if he is used as an RB I expect him to be dinged up rather quickly.

Ty Johnson is the guy, there is no real alternative on the current roster at least.

Kinda hard to evaluate him since he didn't go to The Combine.

Interestingly enough, PlayerProfiler comps his numbers to Kenyan Drake, while YouTube vids/scouting reports comp with with Tiki Barber/Tevin Coleman abilities. Also interesting is every one of those backs had huge concerns whether they can be 3 down guys; McKissic shined as a 3rd down back this season. Trying to research how he is on pass protection: he has decent measurables at 5' 10 and 210 lbs. Of course, the team could just re-sign C.J. Anderson and completely muck this up into a 3-headed monster.

Well to be fair, they have Paul Perkins -- not a stud, but serviceable.

All of which to me means the Lions will most likely look to sign a FA.

I’m in real need of an immediate RB with byes and a long term RB due to construction, but I’m only putting 15% on him. I’m sure I won’t get him but the situation doesn’t make me feel confident. However, he’s a great start this week against the Giants.

I think they resign CJ Anderson.  He's a veteran.  Knows the playbook.  Runs in between the tackles.  Fresh legs.  He did work out recently for the Cardinals.  I wonder if the Lions reached out to him with the notion that he will get a shot as the lead dog.  Because the Cardinals just signed Alfred Blue.

For those on the CJ food truck, keep in mind Zenner just got cut by the Saints and seems predestined to end up back in the Honolulu Blue.

Worthy of a #1 waiver claim?
depends who they sign. this could turn into a major cluster hug

Or he could be a viable flex play. Week 8... depends on your roster and needs. He hasnt looked awesome so far, but he was involved in the passing game a lot last week. Should have a higher floor if that continues.

How has this kid looked?
Explosive, he is bursty and has a gear few RBs have. He’s also not very instinctive and I don’t think he handles contact well.

Depends. The Detroit RB position hasn’t been valuable yet so probably not. OTOH, a RB with some talent and this kind of opportunity only comes along a couple times a year. If you need a RB this week, he’s fantastic. If you need one for ROS, he’s a solid gamble.

My way too early comp for Ty is a smaller Tevin Coleman. He can catch, give him a lane and he can burn. However, I don’t see him as the type to make a lot of guys miss, break a lot of tackles or fight for tough yards. If the Lions can get him lanes or out in space, he could do well.

TJ has decent size (weight) at 210. He's an interesting prospect for me because I initially had him as a COP-type (more or less) until he impressed with his physicality in preseason. TJ will mix it up & he's a better receiver than originally thought. In fact, TJ is actually a plus receiver from what he's shown so far.

TJ has the required size/dynamic ability paradigm to be a feature back, but it's a bit of a mystery how good he'll be. One nice thing about his dynasty outlook now is we'll likely know a lot more about his long-term value sooner than we normally would've.

Several people mentioning Ajayi here.  My question is with the Cards signing Alpo Morris, is that news against Ajayi?   Seems like he's been passed over twice now by teams who had a need and a look at him.

Personally I think everyone should just forget about Ajayi. He's done. He's not a threat wherever he signs (if he even does).
