RB/WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Free Agent (1 Viewer)

the ball he caught late that ended up out of bounds in the end zone, and could have been a game winner, might have been a clean catch but was tipped right before he caught it... it was a pretty spectacular play to reel it in with one hand as he was falling down and retain control (albeit, past the end zone)...

Rotoworld:

Cordarrelle Patterson started at split end in Sunday's tie with the Packers.

The Vikings are finally taking the chains off their prized rookie. He started ahead of Jerome Simpson again and saw 11 targets, hauling in eight of them for 54 yards. This comes on the heels of a nine-target outing in Week 11. Patterson is still limited to mostly quick screens, but just getting the ball in his hands will prove effective. There's some deep-league appeal here as the Vikes are showing faith.

He's flashing that big play ability we all knew he had...breakout game is coming. We putting our money on Week 15 against the Eagles?

The guy is amazing running out of the backfield. He looks like a RB. The acceleration he showed in the hole was unreal.

Is Patterson still returning kicks or has that job been given to someone else to help him develop as a receiver?

He was on Sun. Though I'm not sure if he did the entire game. I know Chi kicked away from him on the opening K.

I don't see how you can remove him from kick return duties, he's been amazing in that role this year. Yes he'll be more valuable as a receiver, but he's averaging 34 yards a return and has scored two touchdowns this season, you can't take him out of that role right now.

As far as I know he's always back there. Teams are just constantly kicking away from him now.

Needs to be getting at least 5 carries a game.
They just need to get the ball more in his hands - period.
They've definitely been trying to get it to him the past few weeks. He's still very raw. Struggles to get off the line at times. He also had at least 1 drop yesterday and narrowly missed a touchdown the week before that he probably should have had. Ponder also missed him on a wide open throw that would have gone for a huge gain in the GB game.

Some of it's his fault. Some of it's on the QBs. But they are making more of an effort to get it to him.

Rotoworld:

Cordarrelle Patterson played on 48-of-88 snaps in Sunday's overtime win against the Bears.

Jerome Simpson played on 42 snaps as this has turned into a timeshare. We'd much rather be rolling the WR4 dice with Patterson as he's the one that's a threat to go to the house every time he touches the ball. Over the last three weeks, Patterson has 14 touches for 113 yards with two touchdowns.

Facing PHI next week---at home. Time to Flex him? I don't think I can roll the dice on Burleson for a 3rd straight week, even if my opponent has Stafford. I gotta make up for the loss of Gronk!

He's flex-worthy. MIN is making it a point to get him the ball. PHI is a good match-up for him, too. Start with confidence.

Start with confidence ESPECIALLY IF AP is out.
This. MIN is already making a concentrated effort to get him involved in all facets of the game; AP possibly being out will only give them an even larger incentive.

Patterson is the type of player that forces you look at utilization numbers instead of just targets. Since week 11 vs. SEA you're looking at utilization numbers of 9, 11, 8 and 9 (obviously this doesn't take into account kickoff returns). He's a threat to take it to the house on every touch and is being given ample opportunity to do so.

Percy Harvin 2.0
Much different player than Harvin. Patterson has blazing speed, but is also very physical
Curious what you mean by this? Percy is an extremely physical player (which is what gets him constantly dinged up) and though Patterson seems to have higher end speed I don't think it's a poor comparison. Their acceleration and balance seem to be what make them special.

Harvin is a generous 5-11, 184 while Patterson is 6-2, 220.

So? Harvin is still one of the most physical receivers you will ever see.

I know and I like him a lot as a NFL WR, but if they're comparable when it comes to their physicality then the guy weighing 220 is "more physical". Does that make sense? :P

Harvin is very physical for his size. That's just it though, his size limits him. Patterson is just as physical but 3 inches taller and 30 LBs heavier.

I think Harvin is more physical in the way he plays. But yes Patterson's size does help

It's sort of like comparing Dez Bryant to Steve Smith (Carolina - who is himself extremely physical for an undersized WR). It's an odd comparison on the surface given the measurable differences. Let's just all agree that both Harvin/Patterson are electric and a huge threat with the ball in their hand.

I may have taken this statement differently than it was intended...the also can be taken different ways. I read it as the OP saying Percy was not physical....but he may have mean CP is also physical like Havin.

At any rate...body type removed from the equation, I see them as having similar skill-sets: backfield, kickoffs, quick acceleration with great balance to bounce off tacklers Percy is the fastest "0 to 60" player I've ever seen and routinely turned 2 yard plays into 10-15 yard plays and CP just seems to have a fluidity and decisiveness about him that makes him a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball. Definitely hope we get to see a couple more carries out of the backfield from him.

Perfect example!

Top NFL Rookie of Week 14: Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson

By Rob Rang | The Sports Xchange/CBSSports.com

December 10, 2013 9:23 pm ET

Each Tuesday of the NFL season NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst Rob Rang will identify his Rookie of the Week. To qualify, the first-year professional player must have played a significant role in a competitive NFL game, demonstrating not just flashes of talent but the potential to emerge as a legitimate long-term standout. The player's draft status -- whether as a former first round pick or undrafted free agent -- does not apply.

Top NFL Rookie of Week 14: Minnesota Vikings' WR Cordarrelle PattersonWith frigid temperatures and snow blanketing football fields all across the NFL landscape last weekend, the setting was perfect for a dramatic performance.

Minnesota Vikings' wideout and kick return extraordinaire Cordarrelle Patterson was happy to oblige, catching five passes for 141 yards and a touchdown and running for another 112 yards on four kickoffs against the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

The wintery conditions kept both teams offenses in deep freeze throughout much of the contest but it was a flurry of points rather than snowflakes in the fourth quarter that made this game memorable.

After scoring just 13 total points over the first three quarters of action, the Ravens and Vikings combined for 42 points in the final stanza, including four touchdowns in the last two minutes.

The clubs traded big plays late in the fourth quarter with longtime Viking Toby Gerhart rumbling for an impressive 41-yard touchdown to give Minnesota the 19-15 advantage. Jacoby Jones answered for the Ravens seconds later, however, returning the subsequent kickoff 77-yards to retake the lead.

And that is when Patterson made his biggest contribution of the game, taking a quick screen from backup quarterback Matt Cassel quickly upfield, before breaking left than right than left again to weave his way through the Baltimore defense for a 79-yard score. The touchdown gave Minnesota a seemingly insurmountable 26-22 lead with just 45 seconds remaining.

Another rookie - Ravens' wideout Marlon Brown - got the last laugh in this game, however, hauling in 35-yard pass from Joe Flacco to kick-start the Ravens' come-back before dragging both feet as he fell out of the back of the end zone with the game-winning nine-yard score.

While Brown and the Ravens made the biggest play late, it was Patterson's emergence that was arguably the bigger story. The Vikings were desperate for someone to step up with superstar Adrian Peterson going down with a scary midfoot sprain midway through the second quarter.

Blessed with extraordinary athleticism, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Patterson has emerged as Minnesota's best big play threat, though he remains a work in progress as a route-runner. The same flair for the dramatic which helped him dominate the SEC in his one season of action in the FBS, however, has given the Vikings reason for optimism in a season that otherwise has been largely forgettable.

Patterson and the Vikings host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
