I am having a fence installed and they are installing the poles today.   I met with the salesman and his crew today (2 guys).   I meet everyone, we proceed to walk the property and confirm the layout.   After that the sales guy asked if they could use the water spigot.   I told them I would leave the house open.    The spare bathroom is in the kitchen right near the door, the fridge is right there too, it dispenses cold water and ice.  I took the lead crew guy inside and showed him the bathroom and the fridge and put plastic cups on the counter for water.   I have done something similar to this before when people were working for me plus it is really hot in NC in the summer.

Well my wife called earlier and said she was going to the grocery store at lunch.  I asked her what she was doing with the groceries and she said, bringing them back to work, why?   I told her I left the house open for the fence guys and she wasn't happy.   Long story short, she brought the groceries back to the house and locked the door.   Who's side are you on?

Edit:  Closest bathroom is probably at least 3 miles away.
Your wife's. Trust no one

aren't those guys used to not being allowed in the house when no one is home.  I'd imagine they'd have a plastic container to piss in.   Doesn't seem like a big deal for that line of work.

Don't trust us lower brain forms...we are just the menials, who do your bidding ... please lock the doors.

Ya know what kills me... the latent racism that exists on this forum.  Sure, you have a lot of money, & YOU WOULD NEVER VOTE  That WAY!  But you would, if it means more dollars in your pocket...& I HATE the way Latinos are portrayed here.  My wife is a Puerto Rican, & sure, I poke fun at the whole culture, in a "non-condescending" way...but #### you people who think Latino's are the cause of our problems

...they work their ### off, & never complain(now I'm condescending) ...  I'm a private contractor, & I can say all the Mexicans who've ever worked for me, treat me like a brother (not father ), & I've treated them the same.  This might come off the wrong way, but #### all this... Remember, Latino's vote is stronger than the gringos...#EndofRant.

If it's a one or two day project either myself or laguapa will be home.  If it's a bigger project that could take a few weeks after the first few days of supervision and the guy(s) seem pretty good I have given them the combo to my garage door so they can get in my house. Most of the contractors I've used were guys I know/used before/or came highly recommended so I've never had any issues.  I have left drinks and snacks and have offered them lunch.

About 10yrs ago I had an outdoor project that took about a month as we put down some paving stones in the driveway, patio with a path around the house.  I locked the house when I was at work and the owner of the business told me that they'd use the bathroom at the gas station down the street.  This was a fall project, late fall I'm picking up the last of the leaves in my yard.  In the corner of my yard I have a shed with a retaining wall just behind it.  I go to get the leaves behind the shed and there  was a month's worth of piss ( 4 guys at 3x a day) on the pile of leaves behind my shed.  Such an overpowering stench of urine that after I got up the leaves I hit it with bleach as my shed sits on a concrete slab.....they did great work though.

Urrp. What's your point?

The guys working were not the same ethnicity, I met them, didnt matter.  This is a high end fence company, the best in the area.  I just looked at them as hard working people.

The supervisor was an employee of the company. The other grunts might or might not have been day laborers, which is why I either lock the door or will have someone home to monitor the situation.

Personally I do not like having no one around when workers are doing things, even if it is just exterior. The things I found (hidden mess) after I had some work done and was not home will never allow me to let it be unsupervised again.

I wouldn't leave my house open for anyone if I wasn't there.

If I'm there, no problemo.  Use the toilet.  Grab a cold one if you want.  But only if I'm there.

Day labors usually don't drive company vehicles.

The salesman had a truck and the guys drove up in a separate branded truck.   Trust me, I was there.
I get it and I am slightly playing devil's advocate here, but just because they show up in the branded truck doesn't mean that the labor guys are day in day out employees. That is why I am locking my door or having someone stay home.

it's been over an hour... have to assume they've butchered and eaten the OP by this point.

should've listened to kafka.

 Jesus you guys are untrusting.

I work in hundreds of homes every year and only about 1 out of 50 ### hats want to be home all day long while my men do the work.

What kind of work?  You don't have to tell, just wondering.
General contractor.  We've been in business for 52 years and in my 5 1/2 years there, thousands of jobs, I have never once heard of anything going missing.

If you're a dooshpickle, you don't last very long at our work.  Not only do my bosses and myself not stand for shenanigans, my men that work for me would either stop it before it happens or let me know about it.
