Spy Game I couldnt stand, but I agree with your other underrateds, or at least the ones Ive seenQuite the collection!

I couldn't stand Spy Game either, but I haven't seen it since theaters. Last Castle is the only movie I enjoyed Robert Redford in since 1980. And yes, that includes The Natural.

I have a friend who refuses to watch rented or used movies. He might have 10,000 DVDs for all I know. Has a whole room full of them, along with CDs, VHS, Laser Discs, etc. I doubt he watches many more than once and quite a few probably remain unopened.

Not sure why anyone still does this when its so easy to just rip rentals to a hard drive.

If you can stomach the beginning, that's the most gruesome part. Half way through I thought to myself, why do I bother still watching these? But by the end I was entranced. I'll watch the 7th one next year too, although I could care less about the "twists" they always try to throw in. I can vaguely follow the storyline and have no idea what scenes are from what number of film. First one will always remain a masterpiece in my book.

IMO, Cary Elwes performance brings it down too much to even discuss it as a masterpiece for the genre.

hm. i am an immense fan of "rushmore". it's one of those movies that speaks to me and i love almost everything about it. i think it's light years ahead of "bottle rocket" in pretty much every way. it's superb, assured storytelling that films geeks like me adore.

agree completely.I'm not comparing Bottle Rocket to Godfather or Citizen Kane, but it has way more laughs in it than Rushmore, which makes it much more rewatchable.

Just watched the remake of Last House on the Left.

Here is a case where the remake was far better than the dated low budget original. The acting was razor sharp and the suspense was tight.

ethics down? if everyone pirated DVDs, then studios would have much less revenue, and therefore could not produce as many movies at such large budgets.

there is a armchair theory that divides men into one of two camps: those that love "rushmore" and those that love "lebowski". surprisingly, i have found it more often than not holds true. personally, i think there is a far amount of projecting which the two character archetypes. they are both kind of "man-child" but anderson's is rooted in adolescence. max wants to be an adult in many ways but can't bring himself to grow up entirely. the dude, by contrast, doesn't seem to really want to be a true adult with responsibilities and the baggage that comes with adulthood. like i said, it's just a theory and not a terribly deep one but it's kind of fun to take it out for a spin every now and then...

Interesting. I have a theory that Anderson has yet to make his best movie. I've seen Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, and The Darjeeling Limited, and it seems like Anderson is trying too hard to be clever sometimes. I think his movies are all entertaining, and "weird" is a quality I really enjoy in movies. But I think the Coen brothers offer a nice contrast to Anderson's work. I think the Coens have mastered the art of weird, yet satisfying, filmmaking. Whereas, I think Anderson's efforts are more uneven. Just a theory...

while i am a fan of his, i am less enamored the further removed he is from "rushmore". i haven't seen "fantastic mr fox" yet but he desperately needs to use someone else's material for a new project. he needs to step out of his own head for a time.

This was not a good movie. I had a hard time actually paying attention to it as it was the most boring post-apocalyptic story I have seen on film in a long time. Mila Kunis was one of the only good things about this movie. She needed more scenes IMO. 2/5

I am far from a knowledgable film critic but I could not believe how horrible a performance Elwes gave in the first Saw. It was laughable and really took away from the movie. I think I might have seen up to Saw IV and given up. Maybe I'll have to try some newer editions.

I thought Rushmore was below average and all the hype made it seem even worse.Speaking of overrated, I just saw The Hangover. It wasn't bad - just average. It just seems like a movie with a good idea and all the crazy things that went on should have been much funnier. Surprisingly I didn't laugh much. Maybe I'll watch it again sometime.I also saw 500 Days Of Summer which was actually better than I expected. Lots of truth in it.

My sister bought me the BD of Inglorious Bastards and i will be watching that this week. Very excited to see it as I am a big Quinton fan and heard this is his best since Pulp Fiction (Although I loved Kill Bill Vol 1).

as someone who also loved, in particular, KB vol.1, i'll say that i thought IB was probably 2 or 3 steps below that in terms of entertainment value.

I thought Rushmore was below average and all the hype made it seem even worse.Speaking of overrated, I just saw The Hangover. It wasn't bad - just average. It just seems like a movie with a good idea and all the crazy things that went on should have been much funnier. Surprisingly I didn't laugh much. Maybe I'll watch it again sometime.

I also saw 500 Days Of Summer which was actually better than I expected. Lots of truth in it.

There's parts in the middle that are very weak, but that final photo montage at the end was so funny I tend to recommend the movie.

The percentage of movies that a person enjoys more the second time is pretty small. But I'd say I enjoyed it as much as the first time.

Today the UPS guy showed up with a BluRay copy of True Romance

God, I like that movie. Sometimes I do good things that I may not remember doing.

Love that movie. The Walken / Hopper scene is one of my all time favorite movie scenes.

Hmmm....Idon't love either one. Actually I hate Rushmore. Lebowski is good but doesn't deserve the cult status it has IMO.

Burma VJ

Documentary about covert reporters smuggling video footage to the west of a series Buddhist monk protests against the oppressive government in Burma in 2007.

The reporters risked imprisonment and even death just for having a camera let alone filming and smuggling the video out of Burma. The monks, and Burmese citizens risked the same by the act protesting.

Very powerful stuff.

The Cove was a very well done documentary about an outrageous and barbaric practice that really should be stopped. However no offense to Flipper, but screw the dolphins. There are far more important things to be outraged about.

I think sufficient proof must now exist that over-priced movie stars do little besides leaving an insufficient amount of money to make the film properly.
