Don't think I loved it as much as others, but I was quite surprised how much I laughed during this one. It was very self-aware and that's what made it such a blast to watch. The stuff from the trailers that made me not want to watch the movie seemed to be over in the first 20mns or so. Really liked the take on what the popular kids in HS are like now vs. a decade ago and how our 2 heroes struggle with that. Also worth it for the scenes of the kids tripping on WTF. Might have lost some points for me because I think skinny Jonah Hill is ####in' creepy.
Similar thoughts. I laughed a lot, but not really the best movie. Those scenes made me laugh so hard, particularly where they get busted for hall passes. Jonah Hill would never, ever, be the popular kid though, sorry. I liked him a lot in this though, and Moneyball before this. Channing Tatum's comedic timing was pretty surprising.3.5/5
Channing Tatum has slowly turned himself into a decent actor and I'm not really sure when that happened.

He was soooo bad in Dear John. Hopefully G.I. Joe Retaliation is sweet.

Man On a Ledge- Meh. Wasn't bad, wasn't good. Standard 2 parts heist movie with 1 part 'unjustly imprisoned and need to prove my innocence' movie.

But it gets 10 out of 10 stars from me. Why?

Genesis Rodriguez. Oh.My.Loins. Hottest woman on the planet.
Agreed on the Genesis Rodriguez front...unbelievably smoking hot. But, the movie itself was OK right up until about the last 20 minutes...just so many things that were over the top ridiculous I don't even know where to begin listing them.

Got The Man From Earth based on positive reviews in this thread.

Was completely bored and the acting was terrible. Felt like it was a high school production. I made it through 40 minutes and had to give up.
This is another example why people shouldn't listen to your opinion.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

The kindest, most gentle, humanistic apocalyptic movie you could imagine. Its tone is out of synch with the background events, but I think that works in what it is trying to convey. Keira Knightley and Steve Carrell are perfectly cast as the everymen searching for meaning and solace as the end of the world nears. Its not without its flaws, particularly the third act, but overall a winning effort for me.

3.88/5 stars

Seems like an interesting premise. Gonna have to check that one out.

Unknown.

This was like watching two 1-hour movies.

The first hour may have been the dullest viewing I have sat through in a long time.

The second hour was pretty darn good. Good enough to recommend anyone sit through that first hour to get to the second half.

The Artist.

Reluctantly watched this one and it was everything I hoped it wouldn't be. Not horrible but nothing special. I didn't find George's emotional "journey" redeeming whatsoever. More pathetic then anything. I guess if you can't get enough of the animal pictures on Reddit you'll love this.

What kept this watchable is Bérénice Bejo who played the female lead. Silent, black/white and the costumes played a large part but can't think of many other actresses who lite up the screen more then her. Absolutely breathtaking.

2 out of 4 stars.

God Bless America: Same idea as idiocracy but done much much better. Thought the girl in it was great and except to see her in plenty of stuff in the future. Frank was a true hero. The monologue at the end was cringe worthy and way to heavy handed. Can't believe that Bobcat wrote this. Never struck as that smart of a guy. 4/5
Watched this last night, and can't give it the high grade that you did. REALLY liked the idea, and I agree with a lot of what Bobcat was trying to say here. You are correct in bringing up Idiocracy, as I dug the social commentary that was in this movie. I would tell people it's the ******* child of Idiocracy and Super. There were 3 things that really started bogging it down for me: too many long speeches, too repetitive, and the girl really bugged me. Probably would give a 8/10 for the ideas behind the movie, and closer to a 5/10 for execution. Still would recommend people who like the dark comedies to check it out.

The Switch:

Been avoiding this one for awhile now, but thought I would take a stab. I like Bateman, and Anniston has been funny lately so it couldn't be that bad, right? Oh, I was so wrong. Found this one to be completely unfunny and it really was a struggle to get through. Avoid this one if rom/com is what you are looking for. 3/10

Shine a Light:

Decent concert flim, but really find the Stones hard to watch lately. I think people watch older bands like that in hope to capture a glimpse of them from their peak, but a lot of the songs felt flat and like they weren't on the same page or something. Would probably recommend this to big fans of theirs, but not casual fans.

A Certain Kind of Death:

Documentary about what happens when people die without family/next of kin. Showed (with way too much detail) scenes of the deaths, behind the scenes investigations, and putting together info from their lives. Not the best doc I've seen, but still enough interesting stuff in here to consider watching it if you can stomach the images of corpses.

decided to reach into the queue tonight and view "the aura". argentine film done by the same guy that did the superb "9 queens". like the other film, this was a really enjoyable kind of heist/caper/noir-influenced film. just solid across the board and fine work.
:blackdot: I loved Nine Queens.Damn, I'm really far behind here.

It happened in pretty much he first sizeable role with A Guide To Recognizing Your SaintsHe takes his share of throwaway roles/movies without a doubt though. I cant really blame the guy for cashing in while he can.

I had forgotten that he owned in that. He also made me laugh in his bit part in Dilemma.Hard telling who was worse in Fighting between him and Terrance Howard. Both extremely eonfusing performances, like they had both suffered sever brain damage at some point.

The Karate Kid

I've never seen either version, so I tried the original. I know this is blasphemy, but this is a silly movie. Loved showing it to my son, but is was cheesy as hell.

Well, duh.
People were pissed when this movie was remade. Like it's some kind of treasure.
Don't make me hate you.

I enjoyed it and I'm glad I saw it

Just imagine you were one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, and you sat down with your son and did the same thing. Then your son persuaded you to buy the rights and remake the film with him as the lead. Oh, and then you called Jackie Chan. and then you replaced "Wax on, wax off" with "Jacket on, jacket off". That movie would suck and so did Jayden Smith's.But that is awesome you finally watched it, just stay away from the remake. Its worse than silly, it sucks.

It's all about context. If you had seen it when it came out you would feel like the remake was destroying a piece of your childhood too.

Maybe it was because I've watched to many ####ty movies lately. Still liked it though. Big fan of dark humor. The scene right at the beginning with the neighbors and the baby had me hooked. Agreed that some of the speeches were too much. The initial one in the office and the ending were very heavy handed. The ending one was completely unnecessary but I felt the first one was good as it set the tone for the rest of the movie.

And I just really liked that he was ridding the world of trash

Goon (2011)

Seann William Scott plays the character Doug. A dim-witted but kind-hearted bouncer that finds his true calling as an ice hockey enforcer. If you liked "Slap Shot" you will love this movie. Goon is an enjoyable sports film.

Yeah. Hard to imagine someone trying to best Pat Morita.

Moneyball - 7.5/10

How they kept the concept interesting for 2 hours is impressive.

21 Jump Street - 6.5/10

That's actually a pretty high rating from me for a comedy. There are some pretty funny lines/parts. Then there are the over the top parts that cause it to lose parts...er...points.

Glad to hear. I've had it in my queue for a week or so, wondering if I should watch it. Had never heard of it. I'll give it a try now.

Yeah this was pretty good. I'm not any more sold on Stifler as an actor than I was before but it was a fun B movie with an excellent supporting cast. Jay Baruchel, Liev Schrieber, Alison Pill all had good roles, and most of his teammates were pretty good too.

Couldn't make it through The Other Guys Some laughs early on but it all seemed to fall apart pretty quickly. Made it about halfway through before deciding it wasn't worth staying up for.

Caught Matrix Revolutions last night for the first time since, well, probably since it first came out on DVD. Meh. The whole philosphical part of this story just lost me. Not because it was hard to follow, although it was at times, but just because it felt like they tried too hard sometimes. And the nod to Christ at the end was meh as well. I think. Frankly, I don't think you can watch this one without watching the second one right before. They should have been one movie. Or not.

Yeah, I'm pretty agnostic on the whole thing really. Kind of.

Well they essentially are. At least they were intended that way.

This, Back to the Future, and Ghostbusters are the 80s movies I could watch over and over until I die. I think there are some great scenes that you don't normal see in movies in the same mold. The drunken Miagi scene is a standout, and just the interaction and pseudo father/son relationship they have is great. Sure there are cheesy fight scenes and probably one of the most uncomfortable kissing scenes I have seen on screen (it looked like Daniel was trying to inhale Ali), but still will go to bat for the movie and would put it quite a bit above a lot of the other 80s fare. It is a damn good movie.

The Jaden Smith remake is laughably bad though - I would almost rather watch that Hillary Swank POS over the remake.

Take Shelter:

REALLY dug this movie. Thought Michael Shannon was great in this. The ending undercut some of the rest of the movie for me, but still well worth the viewing. Would love to read people's take on the movie and the ending. I am still thinking about this one a couple days later, which is always a good sign. 8/10

Pearl Jam 20:

Not sure why you would name your movie this if you talk about years 10-20 for what seems like 10mins of the movie. Could have done without Mr. Crowe yapping during the movie, but overall I really liked it and had a blast seeing all the footage from their early years. Any fan of Pearl Jam should dig this, but it is probably not as entertaining for the casual fan of the band.

George Harrison: Living In The Material World

Martin Scorsese pic about the "quiet Beatle" although there are many stories throughout about all four. Highly recommend. You can really see that Scorsese loves the music in this.

Externally loud and incredibly close

At first I was feeling as if I was going to hate the movie because I thought the kid was annoying. But as the story progressed I really grew attached to him and was invested in his journey. Very touching film with some great acting. 4/5

I know it was based ona book, but was it a true story at all?

i definitely could see not liking it, but just some of the throw away lines just get to me.The whole Walhberg - Mendes dinner gets me every time

I think it really started going downhill with the pimp thing. I was already losing interest in the case by then and that just muddled it up more. I was out soon after that revelation.

I was pleasantly surprised with TOG. Much better than I expected, then again I expected a dog #### taco.

In retrospect I think I enjoyed this film more than when I wrote it up. It does kind of stick with you.My link

The Tree of Life - Hard to describe this one. I found the style very interesting and was very moved by some of the scenes, especially the ending. It was just a bit too long though.

And dinosaurs? Really?
4/5
This is one of those movies that I love - but understand why some people don't like it.
:goodposting: Not sure I love it but I found it to be captivating and will likely watch it again. Finally got around to watching this. Spot on. :goodposting: I have yet to dislike a movie involving Jessica Chastain. :banned:

Very funny movie. i laughed out loud a lot. Almost did not go see it, even though I really enjoy Wilfred the tv show. There are a lot of similarities, but they are also unique. Its not a great movie, but its funny and has Mila Kunis, so there are much, much ways to spend an afternoon at the matinee'.

Real quick.

American Reunion. Forced. Some funny parts. Elementary as expected. 2/5

Case De Mi Padre. Worst Will Ferrell movie. They tried too hard to be goofy and outlandish. A few laughs. Hard to finish viewing. ½/5

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. A complete adult contemporary movie. Well worth the time. 3.5/5

Worse than Semi Pro? Seriously?!Based on what Ive seen, this movie is almost entirely a parody. With any Ferrell movie, you get schtick, but this appears to take it to a whole other level. Im intrigued to see it, and while it may not be hilarious, Id be surprised if its terrible.

Seann William Scott has quietly made a pretty good acting career since American Pie, almost solely in comedies. I have no clue how much money he's made, but Id guess its been pretty good and I wouldnt be surprised to see him in comedies 20 years from now.Jay Baruchel also wrote Goon, which has my interested as well since he's usually solid. Looking forward to seeing this.

ETA: Just realized this is streaming on Netflix. I found at least 1 thing to do this weekend

I honestly dont remember anything from the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies besides disliking them, although now that I think about it Im not sure Ive even seen at least 1 of them in its entirety. Sort or interested in seeing them again, preferrably back to back.
