Is Hansel and Gretel Get Baked better than Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters?
This movie sort of accomplished all of its goals. Good popcorn flick.Olympus Has Fallen - after you get past the implausibility of the plot it's a fun ride. Nothing special but worth a watch. 6.5/10.

We weren't nearly as fat back in 1989.Been watching a lot of Netflix instant videos:
Parenthood
Hits some solid emotional notes, but the writing is pretty bad at times. The cast is excellent, but this really should have been called Skinny Parenthood. I'm supposed to believe that four separate American families are all this skinny?
I'm watching the series. Is that supposed to be set in '89?We weren't nearly as fat back in 1989.Been watching a lot of Netflix instant videos:

Always been a fan of Peter Krause. Surprised how much I like Dax Shepherd. For the most part like the entire cast. Writing has it's weak points at times. None of them are overweight by any stretch. But when I look at them I don't see skinny Hollywood types either. That's exactly the appeal of Graham and Whitman. Christensen has model looks but she has a little meat on her bone which I like. I started watching Parenthood when it first started airing. Its really the only network TV show Id say I stuck with in a long time. I dont think Ive seen anything since season 3, but its not because it went downhill. That said, the show did start to feel like it was stuck in neutral storyline wise, but I thought the writing was very good for what it is. This show is/was way atypical for the type of shows that I watch, so I give it credit for that as well. I think the ensemble cast is quite strong, really no weak links. Dax surprised me as well.Always been a fan of Peter Krause. Surprised how much I like Dax Shepherd. For the most part like the entire cast. Writing has it's weak points at times. Having attractive casts is pretty much par for TV shows regardless of channel. Tony Soprano isnt exactly your typical leading man.I know what you mean.None of them are overweight by any stretch. I just think all these network shows would be more interesting if practically every single character wasn't so attractive.
Watched this awhile ago and found it surprisingly good for a cheesy sci-fi action flick. The special effects and such were also surprisingly good, very entertaining. Guy Pearce is the man and pulls off being a bad ### surprisingly well here. IMO, he's probably one of the most under appreciated actors going. I loved it, but it definitely was slow at times. I thought the script/dialogue was the best part about it.Killing Them Softly - one of the worst movies I've ever sat through. What the hell was that? We have a great cast so we don't need to write anything? Awful![]()

Watched this on HBO. went in thinking it was as comedy...it's not. didn't care for it too much, but I will say that it did make me question my existence for a while afterwards.Thought it was one of the worst movies I've seen in a while.Just watched this.Seeking a Friend for the End of the World The kindest, most gentle, humanistic apocalyptic movie you could imagine. Its tone is out of synch with the background events, but I think that works in what it is trying to convey. Keira Knightley and Steve Carrell are perfectly cast as the everymen searching for meaning and solace as the end of the world nears. Its not without its flaws, particularly the third act, but overall a winning effort for me. 3.88/5 stars
I agree with the critique of the third act - it wasn't perfect. I wish they would have done a couple things differently to get to the inevitable ending. But overall, I loved this movie. It was great.

Totally disagree on Parenthood, which I think was great. True to life, funny, entertaining, I think it's Howard's best film (and I know he's made some very good ones)
Saw Side Effects this week and the blu ray version of Ben Hur. I thought Side Effects was good, had me totally engrossed, though the ending was a little too pat. Seeing Ben Hur with a 2.75 aspect ratio made for an even better experience, especially during the chariot race. It's great when they take a classic old film and do a great job restoring it!

No, not really. However, it is exactly the type of movie the Academy drools over.Argo...good enough movie but Best Picture...really?

I agree with the critique of the third act - it wasn't perfect. I wish they would have done a couple things differently to get to the inevitable ending. But overall, I loved this movie. It was great.Incredible that they thought a Carrel/Knightly romance would work. It was just bizarre. They didn't even make Carrel charismatic. Just a vanilla guy that I couldn't buy a Bohemian-Knightly would fall for.
May have worked if someone like Paul Rudd was cast for the part and they added a touch of charisma.
Older Hollywood actresses must have watched with bile brewing within.
Finally saw Zero Dark Thirty last week. I thought it was very good, better than Argo although Id probably like to see both again. Im surprised it didnt get more hype. That said, it felt entirely too long to me. Started out fantastic and lost whatever steam it had by the time the raid came around. No, not really. However, it is exactly the type of movie the Academy drools over.Argo...good enough movie but Best Picture...really?
For my money, Argo and Silver Linings were a bit overrated and Zero Dark Thirty got the shaft.
Finally saw this one too. I liked it quite a bit as well, but I don't get the 'one of the greatest films ever made' talk, the story was too all over the place for that imo. I still prefer The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly by a decent bit.Once Upon A Time In The West
Not a huge western fan, but holy #### this movie was epic. http://forumimages.footballguys.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/default/thumbup1.gif

I think it's a mistake to remake a movie that's practically perfect.Evil Dead (2013)
Actually surprised by the positive reviews on this one. How was this different than the other dozens of horror remakes that get panned? This one felt like it checked off all of the same items that the remakes feel the need to have (usually to their downfall): 1. gore for gore's sake 2. over explain stuff - either why the bad guy is bad or add in some melodramatic plot line for back story 3. seemingly whiff on the tone/style of the original.
This one had a big heaping serving of all three. We get a completely unneeded back story of why they were at the cabin, how the book came to be, etc.. I think the reason for the popularity of the movie was the gore - this movie had a ton of it. However, by the end of the movie I saw so much that I was just done. It is on the lines of being trapped in a room in Hostel for about an hour. I think the biggest mistake that the movie made is that there was 0 fun to be had watching this. The original is one of my favorite horror movies, and that was a great balance of gore/camp/scares/laughs. Because of the back story we got, there was a dark mood from beginning to end with this one, and I got little enjoyment out of this one.
There was one good jump scare and a #### ton of gore, but nothing that I would recommend people watching. 4/10
I think that remaking films in general is a difficult proposition and should be done with more consideration than is currently given however there is nothing about the original Evil Dead that is perfect. It's a campy, entertaining film that misses almost as often as it hits..I think it's a mistake to remake a movie that's practically perfect.Evil Dead (2013)

The other problem is that Evil Dead already has an excellent remake: Evil Dead 2. The sequel really is the same movie with a better budget.
Yes. I meant to reply to this earlier because KP said the original is a "great balance of gore/camp/scares/laughs". To me, the original is all camp and laughs, no scares or gore. It is as cheesy as any film Ive ever seen. I like it for what it is, unique if anything, but its becoming a cult classic had little to do with how great it was. ED II was a huge step up from the original IMO, but still not what I would call scary or gory on a horror movie level.I think that remaking films in general is a difficult proposition and should be done with more consideration than is currently given however there is nothing about the original Evil Dead that is perfect.
