Italian Job - bought the HD-version on ebay. COuldn't remember it, but the cast made me think it had to be pretty good. Despite a wicked good start, it ends up floundering and ends sloppily. If they could have made the last hour as good mas the first half hour, it'd be 4 stars, but as made, I only give it 2/5

Agree. Bank Job was much better.Bank Job Trivia- Director Donalson said one of the most difficult days of filming was when he filmed the brothel scene. The scene called for the women to be walking around wearing only garters. However, Donaldson said that when he went to film the scene he discovered that most of the women shaved their genitals, which would have been anachronistic for 1971. So the actresses had to wear pubic wigs called "merkins." This caused a problem because the merkins were hard to secure in place and kept slipping, causing Donaldson much aggravation.

Sat on the couch and watched Teen Wolf a couple times yesterday afternoon.

Noticed a major plot hole. Why doesn't his dad go nuts when the kid is blowing the dog whistle in the hardware store? Also, why is nobody freaked out when he turns into a werewolf.

Why does this movie only have a 5.5 on IMDB? Probably the best Michael J Fox movie and one of the best 80s coming of age movies as well.

Also watched Teen Wolf Too with Jason Bateman. This was terrible.

I am sure it has been mentioned previously but I saw Rambo tonight. OMG what an orgy of violence and exploding bodies. Very graphic. I feel like I need a shower.

Duplicity: Overall, it was pretty decent. I like the plot but a couple things that really bothered me was how the story kept jumping around in time. Got really annoying. The wity banter between Roberts and Owen was fun for the first 1/4 of the movie then just got annoying. The big twist at the end was solid. 3.5/5

Next Day Air: Pretty good comedy about a bunch of incompetent thugs who end up with a whole bunch of coke. Turk (from Scrubs), Mos Def and Mike Epps were are damn funny... can't say the same for the rest of the guys. It's not Friday but it is one of the better black gangster movies. 3/5

I'll probably end up watching it again tonight because its still in my DVD player. I partially blame this on the nostalgia factor of the soundtracks playing through the credits, when its done and I don't have another new rental to put in the only thing that makes sense to me is to restart the experience.

This habit is has allowed me to view Ferris Bueller's Day Off 100+ times without ever finding the time of day to watch films like Gone With the Wind or Casablanca once in my life.

I like to watch classic film as if it's a completely different art form. The acting and pacing is so very different. And much of the acting seems so forced and unrealistic. That's very disarming when you watch a classic film. I think I have about 250 Netflix movies in the queue.

Also trying to find the time to watch the Bond series from scratch. I had previously seen only a couple early Connery entries and nothing after that until Goldeneye. I was a huge fan of Goldeneye and have seen everything since.

Dr. No was a great start for the franchise. Connery's early Bond had a lot in common with Craig's Casino Royale reboot, which is a good thing. Bond wasn't nearly as effective when Brosnan took away his mean streak.

From Russia With Love would have been a lot better 40 years ago, but with Austin Powers ripping on nearly everything from it, the material wasn't nearly as fresh or as cool as it should have been. Nothing too exciting nor any really sweet super criminals.

I agree with this 100%. It's easy for me to appreciate pre 1980s films, but if they were remade scene for scene they would never hold up.

I might agree with you on supporting actor, but I thought Affleck was even better in Gone Baby Gone, so its hard for me to give it to him for this (and maybe voters thought the same way)I also thought Pitt was a scene stealer everytime he was there, and was seriously snubbed by not getting a nomination. The fact that his performance was better than Affleck's also makes it hard for me to give him BSA for Assassination.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - never heard of it until I was flipping channelsJust caught this on HBO - I was sucked in big time I had to run before I got to see the last 20 minutes but I loved this movie

I agree with this 100%. It's easy for me to appreciate pre 1980s films, but if they were remade scene for scene they would never hold up.

Most of the movies in my top 100 are post 1970. But that's just because I think modern films are much more realistic. I do love classic film, but the acting is so corny in some of those movies you just have to accept that going in. I think the main way that modern film is better than classic film is in the supporting casts some times. It seems like films post 1970 do a better job casting excellent actors in supporting roles. For example, Spencer Tracy is outstanding in Inherit The Wind. But without being able to recall specific supporting characters, there is some hilariously bad acting in that movie from the supporting cast.

really? huh. i felt like everyone and everything in the movie was trying too hard. If you like that kind of storytelling then you should consider "days of heaven". it's in my top 5 films most weeks.

I liked this movie and definitely need to see it again. People really hated this movie, and I will grant that it is incredibly slow. But I wish more Hollywood films had the guts to make movies like this.

Everyone here should watch Mickey Rourke on Inside the Actor's Studio this week.

Fantastic. #1) Rourke seems like a very decent guy, flaws and all. #2) Lots of interesting insight into acting in general.

I think this show is a must see for Rourke fans and fans of film in general.

I thought Killshot was pretty cool, decent at least. Best part is white collar banker Thomas Jane absolutely kicking tail every time he is encountered by the two crazy, career criminals. That made the movie for me.

It was a good scene... one of the few. When the main character is so brutal, it is tough to enjoy the rest of the movie. Had they just made him a regular old white guy, the movie would have been twice as good. There was no need to try and bring in the native culture.

Seen Rourke's name on the cover when I rented it but was more looking forward Buscemi's directing. I was expecting Rourke to steal a few scenes as a hardcore badass, I should have known better.

Fast and Furious:

I'll openly admit that the first one is guilty pleasure of mine. This one was just a little too much for me, even for a cheesy action movie. I realized a long time ago that I am not in the target audience for about 90% of movies produced now and movies like this are geared for 14 year old boys that play too many video games. The thing I find distracting with these movies (and I know I probably sound like a broken record in here) is the CGI and having it in the movie just to have it in the movie. Makes it feel like I'm watching a video game and I find it irritating. Cheesy acting and no plot I can handle, but the scenes where they are driving through the mine tunnels at 100mph look terrible, as did the scene where Walker and Diesel are in the same race together trying to get the driver job. I am sure that it is cheaper to do CGI, but IMO it usually looks horrible.

Still far better than the 2nd and 3rd installments of this series.

Way too over the top on a lot of things, but definitely some things I liked: The antagonist was really good, the numerous innocent by-standers getting shot, lots of little funny bits- like the heart surgeon knocking over a few bottles of beer when removing the heart from the fridge. I can't say it was good, but only half-bad. 2.5/5 stars

Sugar

I really enjoyed this one, even with the sub-titles. It was a thoughtful and prolonged look at a Dominican baseball player and his journey through the KC Royal farm system as he becomes a man. THis would make a great double bill with Rudo y Cursi. The lead was believable and I really pulled for him throughout the movie. The family in Bridgetown was classic. Really solid film, 4/5 stars

Lara Croft:Tomb Raider

THis came with my dvd player, so I plugged it in. Other than Croft's amazing tatas, there is nothing to recommend. 1.5/5 stars

This Spanish film was the basis for the US film Quarantine. I liked Quarantine quite a bit, but it doesn't hold a come close to the terrifying [rec]. One of the most frightening films I have ever seen and superbly done by Spanish director Jaume Balaguero'. He's definitely someone I will be watching more of- he's a true talent. 4/5 stars

Interesting. I'd been considering watching both of these. I'm generally a sissy when it comes to horror movies, but it's an untapped genre for me in my movie watching repertoir.
