He may have taken the easy way out socially and chose not to attempt to communicate his decisions to anyone, but he sure didn't take the easy way out on himself by putting himself through that much pain for relatively nothing only trying to gain acceptance and "stardom" among his fans. I don't think he loved doing it. He may have when he started his career, but by this time he did it because it was all he knew.

He should have stuck with the whole butcher thing. A little more patience and determination, and he probably could've made assistant manager within a year or so.

Charlie Wilson's War I'd give this a solid meh. Not bad, but after 45min-1hr, I wasnt really interested in watching it anymore. Hanks was pretty good, PSH was good as usual, but nothing ever really drew me in.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Although a bit cheese-infused, I enjoyed the first 2 movies of this series and am a sucker for historically related movies in general. Thought this one had potential with the storyline, but the first 10 minutes were the most interesting part IMO. Really dragged through the middle hour or so, action sequences less entertaining, and the quest from when the Emperor was awakened to when he reached his destination just really seemed to lack suspense.

2 ridiculous missteps that made it feel even worse to me: Having Fraser/Weisz's son be someone in roughly his early 20's in this movie, when they act like little time has passed since the last movie ended and he was like 10 years old in that movie. Even worse, having Maria Bello replace Weisz. Im sure Weisz just declined and I dont think it takes much of a debate to know she's the better actress, but they had Bello step in like she was actually Weisz, terrible accent in hand. Just felt weird.

3.5/10 (and Id probably give each of the first 2 movies 7.5 or so compared to movies of this ilk)

The Wanderers

All kinds of awesome. The closing music sequence of "The Wanderer" may be my new all time favorite. Terror from the Baldies was so laughably soft. The climax of the Baldies storyline cracked me up. The Ducky Boys were great too. If your a fan of cheesy awesomeness or The Warriors you have to check this out. American Graffiti for guys that aren't pansys.

If you can, find the original novel by Richard Price. It is outstanding. As usual there are a lot of differences between the book and the film but in all honesty I would classify the novel as actual literature. I stumbled across it about 15 years ago and was blown away at how good of a novel it was. Although I like the movie it doesn't come even remotely close to doing the book justice.

Crank - High Voltage

Went in looking for guilty pleasure action. Way too over the top on a lot of things, but definitely some things I liked: The antagonist was really good, the numerous innocent by-standers getting shot, lots of little funny bits- like the heart surgeon knocking over a few bottles of beer when removing the heart from the fridge. I can't say it was good, but only half-bad. 2.5/5 stars

I watched this over the weekend. That's a pretty accurate review. It was REALLY over the top - but there was some fun in there too. And Amy Smart is hot.

The Girlfriend Experience - I watched this last night. I think I was expecting a little more of a weird, art type film. It seemed pretty straightforward to me - even if it wasn't shown chronologically. Actually it seemed like the movie kept pounding you over the head about what its message was. Even when it started to explore something different - and a little more interesting - it just kind of skipped over it and went back to the original message.

Overall it wasn't bad - I just got a little bored with it.

Sasha Gray was fine. Nice to see her nude - but of course you can see a lot more on any website you go to.

I think the movie in a way glorified a character that chose to pursue fame and fortune (although in the end there really was no fortune to be had) over making ammends with his family, and swallowing his pride to take a steady job that lacked any stardom. It embodies everything I think is wrong in society these days... and like I said... in a way glorified it. In the end he decided the fans were his 'family'. That is so wrong and so sad. Fans only stick with you till the 'Next big Thing' comes around... family sticks with you till the end (unless you are a complete #######).

One of the replys said he didn't take the easy way out because he put himself through so much pain in his Wrestling career. In my opinion, he absolutely took the easy way out. It was... go through physical pain in order to gain fame and fortune, or go through a deeper more difficult emotional pain of facing reality and the fact that you completely neglected your daughter your whole life. The physical pain of a wrestler was such a selfish move, and it was almost like he was admired for it.

I think that there are tons of movies with likable, practically perfect people. So I find characters who are deeply flawed to be far more interesting.

I find characters with flaws to be interesting too... but most flawed characters in movies have a redeeming side that comes out and adds duality and depth to their character. This guy had NO redeeming characteristics. He gave getting together with his daughter 1 whole shot... and then couldn't take 1 rejection (which was later recended) by Marisa Tome. Basically, this guy lived in make believe land where he was big and tough... but was such a ##### when it came to the real world. Just sad... and stupid. Essentially a whole movie about a complete loser... not fun, interesting, or entertaining to watch in any way to me...The only place he gets hurt is in the real world... so lets just completely ignore it because he just can't take 'life'... pathetic...

I was thinking about it after I posted and I would agree with you on the bolded. He was a very gratious 'superstar'. He was always there for the fans, and appreciated the fans... not every 'superstar' does that. He also was well respected within his profession... which somehow demonstrated a level of character and integrity... he was 'true to the game' so to sepak. He was good with kids (just not his own)... if that counts for anything. And I guess the fact that he even tried to reconsile things with his daughter is something... even if it took Marisa Tome to convince him to do so.I guess in a way... he showed flashes of redeeming qualities... but then kind of gave up on them in the end. When the going got tough... he didn't get much going. I wish he would have followed through with his good side more.

I don't think you and I are that far apart on this issue. While I agree that he makes terrible personal decisions and drops the ball in almost every conceivable way, The Wrestler is just the kind of movie I like.

The Taking of Pehlam 123: Meh... nothing new or interesting here. Travolta has a master plan of hijacking a subway and Denzel is a dispatcher who obviously saves the day. Go through the motions and then the dramatic ending. 2/5

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: Mathew McConaughny meets A Christmas Carol... and that is really it. He gets visited by three ghosts, yada, yada, yada, he is a changed man /end scene. 1/5

GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra: I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I was expecting the worst and it turned out to be fairly decent. Great effects, cool weapons, lots of action and not vomit inducing acting or plots holes. Far better than the new Transformers or any other recent action movie... it at least had some originality in it. 4/5

The Thaw: A pretty decent horror film starring Val Kilmer... he is the more important character but he gets very little screen time. Val Kilmer, is a world renowned global warming activist in the Canadian arctic, accidentally releases a deadly parasite when a mammoth is unfrozen and threatens to kill everyone. There are some pretty gruesome scenes and an underlying plot which keeps you thinking but about it but is pretty ridiculous (will un-thawing bugs make you think more about global warming?). Definitely worth a watch if you like horror/suspense films. By no means is it the best ever but I'd better than 80% of the crap that is out there. 3.5/5

The Assassination of a High School President: Watched it based and the reviews here and I enjoyed it however I'm not a big fan of the narration and the kid just wasn't realistic at all. 3/5

Anytime you want to reminisce about the days of Nintendo pop this in. Just the music from the original TMNT game got my blood pumping. Don't even get me started on the kid that carries around the Power Glove in an aluminum briefcase. World premier of Mario Bros 3 on big screens at the end may be one of the my earliest childhood memories. This movie needed more Christian Slater.

Johnny Handsome

Decent revenge thriller with a cast featuring Mickey Rourke, Lance Henrickson, Forrest Whitaker, and Morgan Freeman. Rourke gets a new face in prison and go goes after the people that killed his ex partner. In the same violent, gritty mode as movies like Payback. DVD doesn't have a widescreen treatment which takes away a lot from the film. Some cool POV shots from Walter Hill, but entries in this genre have done better since.

Balfour was decent in Hell Ride. It's pretty terrible in a lot of ways, but a cult classic in my book, and a lot of fun. Its a throwback to old 70's biker movies a lot like the Grindhouse features.

I don't think I've seen Hell Ride. I remembered Balfour from one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies and how horrible he was in that. Bad acting combined with that mustache/goatee thing ruins a movie.

Just finished watching Martyrs. Still digesting whether I hated it, or was indifferent to it. I had it most of the way figured out until the end, which is one of those that you would have to be insane to see coming. Don't know. I appreciate what the director was trying to do, but in the end I didn't really care. Good horror films are so hard to find. (2/5)

In related news, I watched Drag Me to Hell the other night. It was definitely one of those that you have to have a disclaimer first. I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead trilogy, and am very familiar with Raimi's style of horror/comedy......so I knew what I was getting into when I watched it. I think if someone goes in expecting a great film that is supernaturally spooky, they will be gravely disappointed. But, having said that, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It might have helped that I was showing the film on a college campus to a bunch of college students, but I still thought it was hilarious. Not for everyone, though. (4/5)

Added to Netflix queue. Will report the results. I like a lot of Liam Neeson's work (I even liked him as the voice of Aslan in the Narnia movies), and I usually seek out Tim Roth's movies. Not sure how I missed that one the first time through, but hey, that's why things like Netflix were invented.

It's much smaller in scope than, say, Braveheart. But Neeson and Roth are always good.

I enjoyed this quite a bit as well, definitely surprised me. I'd give it about a 3.5/5 as I felt the leads were better people then I could ever hope to be and that was kind of depressing. Two attractive, intelligent, witty people in love with no vices and they don't fight or feel at all insecure at any point? Yeah right.All the over the top side characters were great, now those were people I could relate with. It's really too bad John Krasinski has zero range as an actor and can only play different volumes of Jim Halpert, because he is a really appealing actor.

I saw this in the theater when 500 Days of Summer was sold out. Despite my dislike of Maya Rudolf, I enjoyed it quite a bit. A little too indy/quirky at tiems and seemed contrived, but still solid.3.2stars/5

Just got done watching this and thougt it was one of the better movies that I've seen in a while. Can't think of anything I didn't like. Had me laughing my ### off and then 10min later had me crying. Really enjoyed this movie.

The SoloistDidn't do a thing for me. Solid acting, but everything else was bad. Slow, slow movie. Was anxious for it to end. Why it got the accolades it got is beyond me.

i haven't seen it. it just doesn't grab me. i don't think much of jamie foxx as an actor. also, it felt somehow like a clear attempt by the studio to go after an oscar.

I'm not that big of a Jamie Foxx fan but he really did a great job of playing the role of a mentally ill man.The film was poignant in the way that it showed that sometimes its impossible to do anything to help these people.

Just finished watching Martyrs. Still digesting whether I hated it, or was indifferent to it. I had it most of the way figured out until the end, which is one of those that you would have to be insane to see coming. Don't know. I appreciate what the director was trying to do, but in the end I didn't really care. Good horror films are so hard to find. (2/5)

In related news, I watched Drag Me to Hell the other night. It was definitely one of those that you have to have a disclaimer first. I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead trilogy, and am very familiar with Raimi's style of horror/comedy......so I knew what I was getting into when I watched it. I think if someone goes in expecting a great film that is supernaturally spooky, they will be gravely disappointed. But, having said that, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It might have helped that I was showing the film on a college campus to a bunch of college students, but I still thought it was hilarious. Not for everyone, though. (4/5)

It got worse...........I watched Frontier(s) after that. What a colossal waste of time that was. It was like some French guy said "Hey, I know! I'll take the basic plot of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, change the weird back country redneck family to a Nazi family, throw in some right wing election riots, and Voila!!!!" Horrible. (-1/5)

I then watched about 20 minutes of Dead Girl with the fiancee. 20 minutes. That tells you all you need to know.

Slumdog Millionaire

Been putting it off for whatever reason, but finally watched it tonight. Kinda average. Besides the scenes at the beginning with the kids, to me there wasn't much else that really grabbed me in. This is a perfect example of a movie annoying me because it was "too convenient". By the end everything just seemed to be over done with stuff lining up - how he got the answers right, his brother's 180 degree personality change, Latika getting the phone, etc, etc. All said and done, it was just too much for me. It was a sappy teen rom/com hiding in a dark drama movie. If it would've stuck to one or the either I would've liked it better.

watched The Orphanage due to the love in this forum. I thought it was ok, expectations definitely ruined it. Supernatural movies aren't my thing though. 3/5

also saw the latest Harry Potter half blood Prince. I thought it was terrible. I was looking forward to finally seeing it because I thought the previous one was awesome. I'm not sure what this one was really about. The plot was kind of wishy washy. 1/5

Land of the Lost

Only thing I could compare this to would be Speed Racer. I can't believe they got the budget to make this movie with seemingly no audience in mind. Everything looks like it should be a kid's movie, but it is full of crude swearing and sexual reference. May possibly hold a record for the largest combination of poo, pee, and fart jokes in a movie, if you could call them jokes. Like Speed Racer, I did like parts of the concept, but the execution left a lot to be desired. I've never seen the old Land of the Lost tv show, but I did watch the one that was on in the late 80's or early 90s when I was a kid, this had no relation to anything on that show. I seen Ebert gave this a 4 star review, and I thought I smoked the good stuff.

The Wresler - hey, look at me, I've made really bad decisions my whole life... and I always take the easy way out. Given the chance to turn things around, I still screw up and do what is easiest. There should be a whole freakin' movie about me! Just awful...

I loved the Wrestler and thought it deserved the hype. He may have taken the easy way out socially and chose not to attempt to communicate his decisions to anyone, but he sure didn't take the easy way out on himself by putting himself through that much pain for relatively nothing only trying to gain acceptance and "stardom" among his fans. He was just a tortured soul down to the bone, a classic tragically flawed character, which is what movies should be all about in the first place.

I think that there are tons of movies with likable, practically perfect people. So I find characters who are deeply flawed to be far more interesting.

As a disclaimer, Speed Racer does not have the feces/fart jokes, but it is big budget ridiculousness at its worst and its hard not to have a seizure watching it. I kind of enjoyed it for what it was, but it was a massive failure any way you look at it.

My excuse - Had a rent 1/get 1 coupon and my daughter wanted to rent one of the Harry Potters, so I figured I'd give this one a chance.

My review - Way, way too long (kind of like my own dog's life) and didn't do a very good job of using the dog as a unifying thread for the couple's journey through life. I guess "disjointed" would be the word. Not terrible, but Wilson was rather annoying after a bit. Not the worst "date" movie I've seen.

I agree with this but I will tell you, I don't know if it's because I'm older now with family or what, but I still couldn't stop the waterworks

Despite the music annoying me throughout the movie, the dancing did give me a laugh.

One of the things that I was pondering after seeing this movie was the notion of freewill. Do we have freewill, or are we motivated by impulses beyond our control? I am not excusing this wrestler's behavior. I won't argue that he made terrible choices. The question that interests me is: is this man completely dominated by impulses beyond his control?Mike Tyson is a comparable figure for me. When Tyson bit Hollyfield's ear, the hue and cry from the sports world was hilarious. "How could he do that?" "There's no place for that in boxing." Ludicrous. We pit men against each other for the sole purpose of pummeling each other, and we are outraged that a fighter loses it. Tyson acted like an animal at times with his comments and his behavior in the ring and his personal life. But does Tyson even have the capability to control himself? Barely.

Great effects, cool weapons, lots of action and not vomit inducing acting or plots holes. Far better than the new Transformers or any other recent action movie... it at least had some originality in it. 4/5

I also love the Evil Dead series and that type of movie, but didn't like this one. IMO it was hindered by being PG-13, and also the thing that made the other movies was having a decent lead and counting on Campbell's comedy. Nothing like that in Drag Me to Hell.

Just watched Surfwise, a documentary on this guy and his family.

Pretty decent flick.
