Zombieland Liked this a lot, as I expected. Agree with a lot of Hooter's sentiments, although I didnt find it all that similar to Dusk Til Dawn or Evil Dead outside of it being awesome, but thats not a problem for me. The 4 leads basically play the type of character theyre best known for, and it works perfectly. Woody was great, Murray's cameo was hilarious. I still havent seen very many movies from 2009, but this was the best one Ive seen outside of Basterds, Avatar, and maybe Up!.......8.6/10

Yes, the awesome part was probably the most similar. If you like that kind of desensitized, creative, over the top, humorous, gore; you'll enjoy this.

District 9: I was thoroughly disappointed. Went in expecting some great and got average... at best. I even held out on watching this until a bought a new TV. The start was interesting but it just crumbled from there. I fell asleep with about 30 minutes left and have zero interest in turning it back on. The aliens/cgi were great. 2/5

Interesting as I was the complete opposite. I was ing the first 30 to 45 minutes, but enjoyed the rest of the movie.

I had the same reaction as Cliff. I bought into it early and liked where I thought it was going but it all fell apart midway through.

Plot was kinda hard to understand at times, and there were things that could have been conveyed a bit better, and the English guy (Irish?) was at times hard to understand. Thought Mel did a fine job in this.

Terminator: Salvation Went in with moderate to low expectations, and enjoyed it. I thought the opening seqeunce was pretty bad (why is the human savior risking his life for not much in return in this instance??), but it got better. Still, it was missing something though. Mood? Story? Dialogue? I dont know, but what T2 had perfected wasnt really going on here. That said, I think it was better than Rise of the Machines in basically every aspect except storyline. I bet Sam Worthington wishes he made this movie now instead of before Avatar. He'd probably be like $8 mill richer.......6.8/10

Either way this movie fell way short of the mark for me particularly the ending. Okay so let me get this straight, they performed a heart transplant surgery with a donor of questionable compatibility who also happens to be the resistance's most significant strategic asset, not to mention that this all occurred in a field hospital. A FREAKING FIELD HOSPITAL! Did they travel back in time and bring back Hawkeye Pierce to do the surgery?

Beyond that Bale jumps out of a helicopter into the ocean for no apparent reason (the ensuing conversation was of absolutely no strategic significance), the attempted rape scene was completely incongruous with the preceding and subsequent scenes (was only there to show that Worthington was 1) a bad ### and 2) not a bad guy), and there was absolutely no reason for the machines to keep Kyle Reese alive to enact their plan to trap Connor.

I could go on and on about the flaws in this film.

They used it to target and destroy the submarine with all the commanders of the resistance, they even trotted out the tired cliche "You arrogant fool, you've killed us all." IIRC the initial assault (prior to the nuclear explosion that didn't kill Bale in a helicopter less than a mile away or Worthington who emerged completely unscathed from ground zero), I believe Connor uncovered the plans for the T-101 (the Arnold model) which should not have been much of a shock for John Connor, but for some reason it was. Yeah, I like him alot, I've seen him in other movies. But for some reason, his accent seems really thick in this movie. I had some trouble making out what he was saying, whereas I never had trouble with him before.

Watched Pandorum last night, and I have to say, that movie was marketed horribly. When it came out, I saw "Monster Movie in Space". The only reason I gave it a chance was based on reviews in here. And despite the fact that it had Dennis Quaid in it, who I find insufferable as an actor, it was a really good sci-fi film. Everything about it was good. And the German badass woman was uberhot. (4/5)

Zombieland

Absolutely loved it. It was great fun for what it was. Reminded me of playing "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" on Sega as a kid. Very reminiscent of two of my other cult horror favorites: From Dusk Till Dawn and Evil Dead 2. I'll probably watch it at least once again tonight.

The humor int his REALLY worked for me. Few out loud guffaws, but countess chuckles. Very cleverly scripted and whole lot of fun. THe kid opposite Woody doing the narrative was excellent.4.2/5 stars

Crazy Heart: Bad film.

I'm not sure I can completely express how truly disappointed I was with Crazy Heart. From the story to the writing to the music to the acting. I found myself cringing at times. Can't honestly recall a film that has done that to me. If I knew how to use the spoiler system I'd write more so I'll just say this: It's a shame they didn't wait to use this performance (Bridges) on a Kristofferson bio picture. The fiction just didn't work for me. I didn't believe it.

I'd agree pretty much with all of this. Not Mel's best effort to be sure, but entertaining enough for me. Winstone stole the show and his part was relatively small. That's not exactly a good thing.

I did not enjoy it nearly as much the second viewing: knowing what was going to happen had a big effect. But my ratings here do not consider multiple viewing friendliness.Also, at least a dozen movies I have seen since Memento were highly derivative and seeing any or all of those before Memento would lessen its impact.

I think you misread that.. You and I didn't enjoy the beginning that much, while the other two didn't care for it after the beginning.. 2 to 2... NEXT!

i used to be really into LvT's work. i went to the theater to see the first showing of this in the US. it was like a 6 hour showing and loved every minute of it. it's funny, weird and compelling all at the same time. i never saw the sequel when it came stateside but found them both on netflix. i've added them to my queue and hope to see them before too long. my wife *may* get a kick out of them too. i can only hope...

bizarrely, i went by it on the malibu canyon side for the first time in decades yesterday, and charlie sheen's car was reported stolen from his house in encino and ended up going over the side somewhere on mullholland drive within the past 24 hours (there is a car accident in the beginning of mulholland drive, and the brunette walks down a hill to set the "plot" in motion).

lynch is frustrating for some people... movies like lost highway and mulholland drive don't have conventional plot structure, and include elements that are more like puzzles, dreams or even hallucinations than stories... it forces the viewer to invest some interpretation, which isn't for everybody. i thought mulholland drive was his masterpiece, but i am a big fan of noir (a reason i like memento so much in last decade - quintessential noir out of the past one of the greatest movies ever made, in any genre)...

Yeah, this movie is getting its fair share of criticism. I'm glad I'm not alone. I found it too be predictable, and just boring. For instance the sniper scene in the desert, it wasn't suspenseful, just agonizingly slow. I should have gone to the fridge for my own Capri Sun. This movie is not Oscar-worthy. It says a lot about the quality of movies released this year. Meh!

Probably my favorite movie genre is zombie horror and no doubt my favorite movie of all time is the original Night of the Living Dead. I loved Zombieland. I'm a big hater of fast zombies but it still worked for me. Right from the start it grabbed me and the opening song (no spoilers) was perfect. There were a couple of lulls but they were short lived. The BM scene might be one of the funniest things ever on film. I'm guessing they wanted Michael Cera for the lead and found someone like him. Woody Harrelson was awesome. Some great gory kills. Loved it 4.5/5

In The Loop

Smart British satire about what appears to be a mockumentary about the drive to start the war in Iraq. But this is not a partisan movie. It's just a funny, dialogue-heavy movie about the absurdity of politics. Highly recommended.

Got Netflix a couple months ago, and gotten a number of movies already. I'll use the ol' * out of 5 stars (1 being piss poor, 5 being one of the very best ever)

Terminator Salvation: *** Not too shabby. But again, ANYTHING could have been better than Terminator 3. If you liked Terminator and Terminator 2, I think you'll enjoy this one a fair amount.

Star Trek: ***½ Hey, I liked the new, fresh look to Star Trek, and am looking forward to future ones. I think it gave it some balls, which Star Trek movies rarely have. The story was actually quite good, too.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: *** Eh, I was thinking of giving it two stars, but I love the X-Men franchise. Still, to this day, my favorite comic book series, and I think they did a good job with the first three movies. If you liked the movies, you'll like this one. It showed a good deal of the backstory behind Wolverine, and I'm sure we'll see more in the future.

Angels & Demons: ** I made the mistake (?) of reading the book first, and then watching the movie, and I was sorely disappointed. It did not follow the book well at all. It made it extra saddening in that I liked the DaVinci Code and thought the movie followed the book pretty well. This one? Not so much. I guess if you haven't read the book, it wouldn't be too bad of a movie, so it might be worth watching.

Public Enemies: *** Enjoyable. A little monotonous, but Depp is a great actor and does a good job playing the part of Dillinger.

District 9: ***½ I liked this because it was....different. The story was odd, and despite the ending being predictable, it was worth watching.

Quantum of Solace: **½ I'm a pretty big fan of Bond, and I actually really enjoy the new one. He gives Bond balls. But this story, which takes place only a short time after Casino Royale, was kinda... bleh. I had to turn the volume up several times because I couldn't hear what they were saying (mumbling). The story was kinda meh. If you like Bond, you'll somewhat like this one, but don't be surprised if it's disappointing. I liked Casino Royale much better...

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: *½ Ok, perhaps my expectations were a little higher than they should have been. All I needed to do was look back at the cartoon back when I was a kid, and realize how cheesy it was. The movie falls right in line with that with extra cheese. The special effects were kinda cool at different places, but overall... bad. Just... bad.

Valkyrie: **½ Ok, I think what ruined this one for me was that I already knew what the end result would be, so there was no surprise at all. Tom Cruise did ok, and I can understand how they didn't want the whole movie in German, and what they did to switch it over to all English at the beginning was kinda cool, but Cruise doesn't even ATTEMPT to have a German accent. It was hard to envision him as a German at all.

That's what I've seen so far. My wife got "The Ugly Truth" (Romantic Comedy), but even she said it sucked. I have several more movies in queue, so maybe one day I'll come back...

Death Race with Jason Statham.

The acting was..... well, it wasn't acting. The story line wasn't actually told all that well, nor were any of the characters developed in the slightest. Most things that happened outside of the cars were pretty boring, useless and frankly just seemed out of place.

But it was a Jason Statham movie with fast cars, cars with weapons, racing against each other, killing each other and there was a hot chick. Not a bad wasste of time at all.
