Also, just a heads up but Kick ### is the first major film release available immediately via netflix when it is released last week. I went from watching every new release the night it was released to now missing almost everything until it pops up on my "recommended" screen. Not really complaining because the older films I end up watching are usually much higher in quality.

I was hoping for a 'so bad it's good' review for this one.

The best thing about CotT 2010 is the abridged script. Without seeing the movie I wouldn't have had the pleasure of laughing so hard at the abridged script.Seriously as soon as you finish watching it follow that link, it's okay if you read it now but just not as funny if you don't know the specifics they are referring to.

I've been wanting to ask a couple of you for awhile now - WTF is with the decimals in the rankings? Do you actually have a breakdown of ratings, or are you pulling it out of your ###? What would've made the movie a 6.4? I was thinking about my ratings system and how/why I rank things the way I do. The most I can do is 3.5/5 or 7/10, but rating movies is hard for me for whatever reason. I was going to start another thread, but I'll ask everybody here. It probably has been discussed, but what is your rating system, what are you looking for, are they genre-specific, etc...

I dont have a database or anything that says if I give this movie a 7.3 that puts it just ahead of this movie and behind this movie or anything, I just think using decimals gives you a better idea where that movie lands. Id probably say typically if I give a movie a 8/10 or better, I liked it a lot and thought it was well done, and the closer to 10/10, the better. I dont feel like I give very many movies more than 8.5/10 though. Id say most lie in the 6.5-7.9/10 range, and going by my usual feelings on a film, theres a big difference between the floor and ceiling of that range. Get below 6, and it might still be worth watching but isnt anything better than average. Closest thing I could maybe relate that to is RT's scale where you could move the decimal place 1 to the right and make 7.9 a 79% rating.I dont look for specific things besides maybe acting from movie to movie, but if something stands out or is original that gives it a boost.My ratings probably are more genre specific, although Im not sure Id ever give an action movie or something 9/10. Since we were talking about Disturbia though, Id probably give that something like a 8/10 because its better than at least 75% of blockbuster suspense/thrillers, but overall it would be more around 6.8-7/10Youre probably even more confused now ETA: Maybe I am pulling my ratings out of my ###

I just found Season 4 of The Whitest Kids U' Know on Netflix instant watch and have been sitting at the computer all night cracking up.

These 5 guys put some of the best sketch work I've ever seen on film. Give them some time if you give them a try though because when they miss, they really miss.

Season 1 was kind of sloppy but it's great after that.

Inception was very very good.. Need to see it a 2nd time as the beginning of the movie only made sense once the ending came around.. 4.5 out 5 Took my daughter and my Dad to see SALT... It is what it is ... a summer movie with some twists.. Enjoyed it throughout.. 4 out of 5 for what it is

SALT - Loved the concept, hated the movie. The twists were well thought out, but the action was just unbelievable. And with Angelina Jolie looking like a strong breeze would blow her over, it was hard to believe that she was a trained assassin. She needs to eat a sandwich or two. 2 out of 5

Love the line in there about having a husband already, and not really wanting another. One of the few gripes I had about the movie was her weird-### reaction when she caught the kids in the bathroom.

What about the original The Longest Yard KP?

What's the complaint there?

Never seen that either. I think I realized awhile ago that I never seem to love sports movies, so I probably haven't seen as many as most around here. It's not to the level that I hate them, but I can't remember seeing won that I thought was great. People ##### about Titanic - "well, you know the boat's going to sink". Also works for probably 95% of sports movies - you watch Miracle, and you know WTF is going to happen at the end. I just always find them meh b/c like jdog stated, they are full of cliches, and they are predictable.

I would put The Longest Yard very close to the top of my all time best sports movies list. I am having trouble coming up with one I enjoy more. Rocky, which is in most ways not cliche, comes close. I was serious about Horse Feathers too, but as a Marx Brothers movie it has obvious appeal for other reasons, ditto for M*A*S*H. They're both great but not truly movies centered around sports.

I think TLY is definitely worth checking out as a true sports comedy. Although I think Major League is hysterical so what do I know?

ETA: Not sure I see many similarities between Major League and Bull Durham.

I would put Seabiscuit at the top of my sports movies list. Seven Oscar nominations, but it was released in 2003 when LOTR was rewarded for the work done in the entire trilogy. Jeff Bridges and Chris Cooper were outstanding and I think Seabiscuit is one of the most underrated dramas ever released. The racing scenes look and sound fantastic on blu-ray too.

Started watching Mystery Team last night...I dont think I finished it, probably got halfway through or so, but dont remember since I started watching after about a dozen shots and 3 reebs. Some chuckles but Im not sure I really want to start watching the rest of it or start from the beginning.

We made it a half hour in and the only laugh was when the cat went in the litter box on the counter. Couldn't finish it and I doubt I'll ever give it another shot. 2. the low production is a big reason I like the movie. Every now and then I put it in and think - "####, I could make a movie".

3. it's worth it just for the heavy discussion about the Stormtroopers killed on the Death Star.

Quirky coming of age movie that evidently earned the director an award at Sundance a few years back. It was OK, but seemed like it was being quirky just to be quirky and really didn't have any flow or interesting characters.

Been pimping this doc for a bit now. Decided to watch it again while I wait for my next shipment of movies in the mail. Love this movie. It's about a guy in WI trying to make a couple of low-budget movies. Great cast of characters that makes this movie funny as hell. I am laughing every time his buddy (Mike, I think?) is on screen - he's a combo of Silent Bob and Spiccoli.

It's about a guy in WI trying to make a couple of low-budget movies. Great cast of characters that makes this movie funny as hell. I am laughing every time his buddy (Mike, I think?) is on screen - he's a combo of Silent Bob and Spiccoli.

The Losers

A toned down version of an action movie you've seen a thousand times before. For a comic book adaptation, these characters didn't really have a lot of personality, sans Chris Evans who always looks like he is at least having fun. Idris Alba continues to be criminally underused in Hollywood. Jason Patrick is pretty good hamming it up big time. Nothing new at all here, but nothing too appalling either.

Jude Law, apparently the most futuristic looking person on the planet because Sci-Fi seems to be his thing. Extremely dark comedy and enough material to keep you thinking. Refreshing for the genre, but it's going to startle a lot of casual viewers. It is extremely violent and sadistic and a lot of fun if you can stomach it.

Nothing says punk like Nicolas Cage in pleated khakis. The dialogue is strong enough to make a pretty lame story memorable. "Well #### you, for sure, like totally!"

Dialogue is the hardest form of screenwriting. I can really appreciate what Kevin Smith did here. His directing is very amateurish and he doesn't move the camera much, but it passes. This is one of those films that is iconic just because of how much heart, soul, and work the filmmaker put into getting it on screen, usually it's their first work. It's one of those things that you can just tell and makes it easy to appreciate sometimes. Clerks, El Marachi, Reservoir Dogs, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.

It reminded me of the first time I seen Starship Troopers, it took me a while to even know what to think.

Speaking of Scifi, I watched Surrogates this weekend. Another mindlessly bad scifi flick. Gaping plot holes, little to no thought to the premise or whether the story arc makes any sense. It was Running Man bad without the cheese that makes Running Man so fun to watch.

My thoughts were largely the same, although I thought all of the main actors did a pretty good job with what was some pretty derivative material.It wasn't exactly good, but I found it to be a fair amount of fun. 3/5

Kick ### - Loved the first half of the movie. The over the top swearing and violence didn't disturb me. It starting getting formulaic towards the end but overall I enjoyed it. See it.

Repo Men - I love futuristic sci-fi movies and I loved the premise of this one. But I just couldn't get into this one. At about 2/3 point, the plot holes really started to bothering me. I didn't like it.

Agora - Overall I thought it was solid. Weisz was really good in her role. I don't know how historically accurate the film is but it certainly doesn't portray religion in a nice way.

had a chance to party with Trevor and Sam in Atlantic City last summer .... a very insane and memorable night.

Before I talk about the film that I attempted to watch yesterday, let me just throw some disclaimers out there:

1) I enjoy horror movies, but only ones that are really well done. And for those of you who watch horror movies, you already know that those are few and far between. The last really good scary movie I saw in the theater was the American remake of The Ring, and I've only seen one or two horror films that I would consider "good" on DVD since then.

2) I generally don't enjoy this new "torture horror" genre, or whatever you want to call it. I enjoyed the first Saw for the most part, because I thought it was pretty original at the time, but all the sequels are crap. I also hated Hostel, and the "foreign Texas Chainsaw Massacre" that they call Frontiers.

Having said that, I recently learned of a movie called The Poughkeepsie Tapes. I saw a 10 second clip of it, of which I was instantly interested in a) the camera angle during filming, and b) the general craziness of what I was seeing. Going on that, I decided to give it a viewing.

At this point, I can honestly say that I have only seen half of it. My wife made me turn it off, as it was getting to her. I'm going to finish it at lunch today. It is definitely one of those movies that isn't for everyone. Me personally, I was enjoying a lot of the clever camerawork, and that it seemed to be a step in a different direction. A lot of people won't be able to get past the craziness that is on-screen, and that's okay. I can't really give it a rating, since I haven't finished it, but I do think it's worth a watch if you are looking for something a bit different in the horror genre. Some of the acting may come off as cheesy, as I'm sure this film was made on a non-existent budget, but I found what I saw interesting.

Exactly. The rest of the time I was wondering "is that Ben Affleck narrating", and "do the kids on the debate teams in HS really talk that fast?". Needless to say, I was completely bored with this movie.

Having said that, I recently learned of a movie called The Poughkeepsie Tapes. I saw a 10 second clip of it, of which I was instantly interested in a) the camera angle during filming, and b) the general craziness of what I was seeing. Going on that, I decided to give it a viewing.

At this point, I can honestly say that I have only seen half of it. My wife made me turn it off, as it was getting to her. I'm going to finish it at lunch today. It is definitely one of those movies that isn't for everyone. Me personally, I was enjoying a lot of the clever camerawork, and that it seemed to be a step in a different direction. A lot of people won't be able to get past the craziness that is on-screen, and that's okay. I can't really give it a rating, since I haven't finished it, but I do think it's worth a watch if you are looking for something a bit different in the horror genre. Some of the acting may come off as cheesy, as I'm sure this film was made on a non-existent budget, but I found what I saw interesting.

The premise of this movie looks like it has a lot of possibilities. I'll be interested to read you review.

Have you seen any Dario Argento movies? I wouldn't call them well done. Terrible, in some ways. But if you want to be scared (I mean really scared), I highly recommend Trauma and Deep Red.
