seeing as this is page 420 of the thread, we ought to have some stoner films reviewed in here.

These come to mind:Cheech and Chong's Up In SmokePineapple ExpressHalf BakedHarold and Kumar Go To White CastleThe Stoned Age was dumb, but fun.

This list is going to be really hard to top. I'll still take Up in Smoke as #1 all time. Best part about it is you can get a good buzz by the time Low Rider is done, laugh for the next 20 minutes, and sleep though the rest.I saw Stoned Age for the first time a couple weeks ago, seeing Jake Busey almost blew my mind because before that I thought I was watching something made in the mid 80's. Its like Dazed and Confused except I haven't seen it 400 times.

I haven't seen it in 40 years, so I do not know how well it will hold up. But it had Country Joe and the Fish as an outlaw gang that robbed banks and toted around electric guitars and they were awfully funny. I also remeber it having some really good music. I found it avail at Amazon for six bucks, so I ordered one.

Motel Hell - high hilarity.

Kung Fu Panda 2 - Beautiful animation. Worth seeing for that reason alone. The storyline kept me engaged. There are a few great action sequences and enough humor to keep kids giggling throughout the movie and a few lines adults will chuckle at. A quality sequel.

Redneck Zombies was fun, but they just bought the rights.

Troma's War, Class of Nuke'em High 1,2, and 3 and Tromeo & Juliet had their moments.

Rashomon - I didn't enjoy it much. If Kurosawa wanted to make a silent film he should have made a silent film. I didn't think the acting techniques worked very well.

That's not true. Here's an excerpt from Ebert's review:

But Kurosawa was not looking for realism. From his autobiography, we learn he was struck by the honesty of emotion in silent films, where dialog could not carry the weight and actors used their faces, eyes and gestures to express emotion. That heightened acting style, also to be seen in Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" and several other period pictures, plays well here because many of the sequences are, essentially, silent.

It didn't work for me.

Black Snake Moan - Ricci is hot and SLJ was pretty damn awesome. He gets ripped for being in alot of movies but SLJ >>> Denzel. Overall interesting movie with awesome music.

Originally, Mongol was written as the first part of a trilogy which would cover Temudgin's entire life. However, after the difficulties experienced during the making of Mongol, writer/director Sergei Bodrov decided to abandon the trilogy and leave Mongol as a stand alone film. However, whilst doing promotional work for the film, Bodrov began to contemplate the possibility of doing not two sequels, but just one, combining his ideas for parts 2 and 3 into one film. You can hear Bodrov discuss this issue here (NOTE: The audio only interview is number 29 on the list and can only be listened to in iTunes). As of April 2010, Bodrov was working on part 2, tentatively titled The Great Khan, which was expected to start filming later in 2010 with a budget of around $45 million. As of 26 December 2010, however, all production on The Great Khan had ceased.

That's a shame. I hope they manage to get it done. Trilogy would be better but I'll settle.

Too Big To Fail

Almost finished with this movie, and I am very entertained. Great cast, interesting script, and the movie seems to possess a solid understanding of the mortgage crash. Highly recommended.

i watched a few episodes of AMC's "the walking dead". oof. terribly acted, written and directed. a rare miss from AMC series team.

I loved it. Watched all 6 episodes in a row 1 night. Cant wait for season 2

It was hit or miss for me. Like many here I am fascinated with the post-apocalyptic genre, it had some high points and some wtf are they doing points. For me the jury is still out.

Anchorman is the king of awesome. But I think most of the work he has done since is derivative and not nearly as funny. I think a lot of that is on him.

For the most part, I agree. The only good movies he's starred in since Anchorman are Step Brothers, Stranger Than Fiction, and Talladega Nights, but I thought the first 2 especially were great. Otherwise, pretty bad.That said, his new one looks pretty good.

i saw "everything must go" a week or so ago. it was pretty good. it's got some moments but it's far from a comedy. the carver story is stretched pretty thin. i think they could have done more with a more robust story that was in a similar vein like cheever's "the swimmer".

Liked this a lot. The director is the same guy who did Hustle & Flow (best rap movie ever, not that it has much to contend with) who I thought was supposed to continue making music oriented movies of different genres and areas of the US but dont think he's made one since BSM. I thought SLJ was particularly good in this, as was the music.As for SLJ being a better actor than Denzel, hell no. Denzel has his share of box office movies as well, but his movies are consistently solid.

I really enjoyed Stranger Than Fiction. For a typical Will Ferrel comedy I find that I get a couple of laughs and then a bunch of or . He brings a lot to the table in the right role but, as jdogg pointed out, those roles don't come very often. He seems to be suffering a bit from what happened to Robin Williams. People loved him so much that Hollywood started spewing out a bunch of garbage just to make money off him "Let's put Robin Williams in a dress", "Let's make Robin Williams a child in a grown up body" blah blah blah. With Ferrel it seems to be a lot of "Let's have Will do exactly what he does in every movie but this time in a race car, or on ice skates, or playing basketball". It gets old.I think that is part of why I liked The Other Guys because (except for the pimp stuff which got a from me) he was pretty much the straight man and it worked for me. Mind you on a second viewing I may be over it already, but the first time through I liked it.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly needs to be at the top of your queue or I might have to hunt you down and smack you in the head.It seems that the rental market has been mostly dead lately, which is why I decided to fire up some television shows I had never seen (working on West Wing and Six Feet Under).

Of the movies that I have seen, and have been released, semi-recently I liked and would recommend Dogtooth, The Illusionist, Inside Job & Jackass 3D. I also found Shinjuku Incident to be interesting and entertaining and is worth it if you want to see Jackie Chan take on a drama.

I just looked at my DVD only queue on Netflix. Here's what I got:I have Country Strong at my house, I will watch it this weekend. I started listing all of my DVD only queue, but then I noticed you said in the last few months. Most of the rest of the movies in that queue are probably at least 6 months old. Oh well...
