Finally got around to watching the first 3 episodes of Season 1 last night. Just brilliantly offensive. Don't know what took me so long to get around to this one, but I am sure that I will get through the first couple seasons in short order.
Enjoy season 1 while it lasts. Seasons 2 and 3 are disappointing.
How bout you sit on a movie reel and press fast forward, Scoresezi
Speak American, Pancho.

Just watched "Shame." Um, whoa.

:(
This is in my queue, should I refrain? I generally don't like feel-baddies but I like the actors
Ive heard the first 10 minutes is pretty much all meathose, so Im guessing he was referring to that but maybe not.
I walked out of this one in the theater, after about 20 min.I'm not saying it was bad or good.

I'm saying I couldn't handle it.
Just watched this one over the weekend, and while I thought it was a very good movie, it is probably going to be placed in the rare category (for me anyway) of a movie that I thought was good but probably won't watch again. I think the filmmaker maybe did a too good of a job placing you in with these people and putting you there for Fassbender's shame and anger.

Also definitely not for those who were hating Drive for the lack of dialogue.
For me the epitome of this is There Will Be Blood, although there are probably others. Thought it was excellent but no interest whatsoever to watch it again, despite the tour de force performance. Ive never seen Schindler's List and wouldn't be surprised if I feel the same way about that one.
Sadly, after thinking about it, I can only think of two movies that I appreciated or thought was a good to great movie but I doubt I would watch again:Irreversible

Dear Zachary

Other movies that would make people's lists I have seen multiple times - Requiem for a Dream, etc.. I guess I never understood not watching a movie that you thought was good another time - I usually get something different out of repeat viewings. I would say Shame is no different - I misspoke when I stated I wouldn't watch it again, I was probably more trying to relay the bleakness of the movie so people are warned.

I am sure it's been done, but I would love to see a thread about this topic to see what other people wouldn't rewatch. What was it about There Will Be Blood that you wouldn't watch again?

WTF did you wait so long for? Its not that hard to just name your kid Shrek and move on with life
The list of TV shows I haven't seen is huge (still haven't gotten around to The Wire). We didn't have any TV for a couple years, and now we still don't have any sort of cable/satellite. Usually don't even start watching something on Dvd until it is a few seasons into the show. My DM was talking about Eastbound with somebody else last week, so I thought I'd take a stab at it since it has so few episodes in a season.

That exchange about the girl's name had me going. The line that caught be off guard and probably got the biggest laugh from me was when he asked his buddy if he just gave Robocop a BJ.

I would be very surprised.
So you're telling me that whenever you're unsure of what DVD you want to watch some night in the casa de Chaka, a common dilemma is deciding between Goodfellas, Fight Club, Donnie Darko, and Schindler's List???
Not sure if I go out of my way to turn on many films I have previously seen, even more so for films with a 3:15 run time. It is more of a situation of whether or not I will sit through them again if I come across them on cable. In that regard I will say that if Schindler's List is on I am likely not turning it off in favor of Goodfellas, Fight Club or Donnie Darko (which isn't even remotely in the same universe as the others). It is a powerful and enthralling film that has incredible rewatchability.
Is this a common theme for posters in this thread? Seems weird to me for people who love movies so much. Curious what the reason is.

I do not know if its common, but I usually do not re-watch a movie if there is anything else available that looks remotely decent that I have not yet seen.

I am a movie slut and I want to have relations with as many as possible before I die.

Now I am not saying I'd take a Tyler Perry movie for a ride when I have a Goodfellas in BluRay waiting for me at home, but with such widely available access to so many independent and foreign films, my cinematic promiscuity is constantly fed.

If given the choice typically I opt for something I have not seen. Does that really seem odd?

Some movies are simply too painful for me to watch again. Examples:Downfall

Children of Beslan

The Magdalene Sisters

Horrible Bosses

About on par with Bridesmaids - although I probably laughed a few more times with Bosses. Not great, but some funny moments. Charlie Day needs to be in more movies.

I own about 60 movies. I can't imagine a time where I won't want to re-watch almost all of them several times. As I mentioned in a previous post, though, sometimes a movie's too painful to see twice.

One of the Top 10 movies i want everyone to see (my Irish grandmother got knocked up and hid in Liverpool til me ma was 1yo expressely cuz the nuns were allowed to put you away for life for that), but i dont want to see it again.

An amazing movie, for sure. Here's a subject I knew practically nothing about. I love it when a film can teach me something. When I saw Sinéad O'Connor tear up a photo of the Pope on Saturday Night Live a few years ago, I didn't get it at all. "Why is she so angry?" Turns out that O'Connor spent time in a Magdalene Asylum as a teenager. It all made sense after I watched that movie.

I think the only reason I watch so many movies is to find ones I like enough to watch them again and again.

True dat.

I'd rather look at a DaVinci that I've seen a million times than a new Jackson Pollock painting because I know I don't like Jackson Pollock paintings.
I don't disagree, there are plenty of films I don't watch or have no desire to watch but how do you know if something is a DaVinci or a Pollack (or dogs playing poker) based upon seeing less than 5% of the content out of context?

War Horse

The cinematography was excellent, and the story/acting was pretty good too. I felt like something was missing. It's a movie where it should tug at your heart, and it was set up do do that, but it didn't tug too much on mine. Not sure why. Usually I am very moved by these types of movies. Still a good watch though. 3.5/5

The Descendants

Clooney was very good as usual. It was kind of a slow movie, but I really enjoyed it. I felt like a perverted old man staring at the girl who played his oldest daughter when she was in a bikini, but thats until I found out shes turning 21 this year. Another movie thats not great, but very good. Worth a watch.

3.5/5

:goodposting:I've probably had less than 5 repeat viewings of a film I've already seen in the past 5 years. If I had to guess, probably 2 or 3. Who has time to re-watch a movie when there are so many other great movies out there you haven't seen before? I've got a list of probably over 200 films that look interesting to me based on either a trailer, recommendation, or plot synopsis; and I'd much rather experience a new movie that looks interesting than re-watch something where I know every turn and plot twist that lays ahead of me. Maybe as I age and my memory dissipates I'll start returning to some films, but at this point I have no desire to.

Dude, it's the coolest movie no one's ever seen. I mean, just look at the posters.

Make sure you watch The Sword and The Sorcerer. Outstanding cheese.
It's kind of sad how much I love that film.
I used to be obsessed with these movies. So much so, that I read Joe Bob Brigg's hilarious movie column every week. My letter to Joe Bob is still archived on the Net:
Dear Joe Bob:

It's my contention that Ator, The Fighting Eagle is one of the worst movies ever. Miles O'Keeffe's performance is as bad as his perm, and Plan 9 From Outer Space looks like Gandhi compared to this masterpiece. Have you had the pleasure of sitting through this film?

Sincerely,

Jesse, Sebastopol, CA

Is this a common theme for posters in this thread? Seems weird to me for people who love movies so much. Curious what the reason is.
I own about 60 movies. I can't imagine a time where I won't want to re-watch almost all of them several times. As I mentioned in a previous post, though, sometimes a movie's too painful to see twice.
I think the only reason I watch so many movies is to find ones I like enough to watch them again and again.
Fantastic post.

I am sure it's been done, but I would love to see a thread about this topic to see what other people wouldn't rewatch. What was it about There Will Be Blood that you wouldn't watch again?
I guess Id say first and foremost its real long, but also that while the storyline was interesting, its not something I would find entertaining a 2nd time around. I think Id get bored quickly watching this one again.

Eastbound & Down:

Finally got around to watching the first 3 episodes of Season 1 last night. Just brilliantly offensive. Don't know what took me so long to get around to this one, but I am sure that I will get through the first couple seasons in short order.

Oh I was just saying that for my namesake schtick. Its only been around a few years and has more of a cult like following that it being a real big show, not surprised you just started watching it. I havent started season 3 yet but a friend said it was horrible. You really need to get around to The Wire though

I finally got around to Boardwalk Empire last week. 3 episodes in and hooked :banned:

This is wise reasoning that never really crossed my mind but makes sense. Ive havent bought many movies the last few years but when I see one I love I want to own it.

The cinematography was excellent, and the story/acting was pretty good too. I felt like something was missing. It's a movie where it should tug at your heart, and it was set up do do that, but it didn't tug too much on mine. Not sure why. Usually I am very moved by these types of movies. Still a good watch though. 3.5/5
Really? I thought Peter Mullan was good but after that calling anyone good besides maybe Emily Watson or the girl's grandpa would be a stretch, and the majority of the rest of the acting I thought was horse ####. The story was all over the place and didnt let the viewer connect with anything but the horse (which may have been the best actor actually).

I thought all of the actors were fine. I do agree about the story somewhat though.

You could only get it if you signed up for the mystery event. It cost like $300 or so, but included the original, a variant and a bus trip to an old mall where a bunch of zombies attacked us when we ran from the bus to the mall to see the screening. Took about 5-6 hours and I was not in a very good mood. I had no idea the whole thing was such a production. I just wanted the posters. I showed up to the theater, and they sent me to a parking lot where it took two hours to get loaded on the buses (I think there were 8!!11) then half an hour to the mall and half an hour for all the buses to unload. By the time the movie started I was done. If I had had any idea what I was signing up for, I doubt I would have signed up. I am old and crabby.

:lmao: that's a lot of work just to buy some ####ing posters.

I do not know if its common, but I usually do not re-watch a movie if there is anything else available that looks remotely decent that I have not yet seen.I am a movie slut and I want to have relations with as many as possible before I die.Now I am not saying I'd take a Tyler Perry movie for a ride when I have a Goodfellas in BluRay waiting for me at home, but with such widely available access to so many independent and foreign films, my cinematic promiscuity is constantly fed.
I guess maybe it depends on how many movies you consume in a week, or maybe just something else entirely. I get what you guys are saying, and it's not as though I am watching the same 40 movies over and over. I would say I average 5-6 movies a week. Most of the time it's something I have not seen, but I would say that 10-15% of the time I am watching something I have seen before. Mostly because I find that I get more out of a movie on repeat viewings, but also it could be something I just haven't seen in a long time and want a refresher. It interests me to revisit movies that I remember really liking to see if they hold up. I am quite different than I was 10 years ago, and I find it interesting to view things over with a different eye. Some movies grow on me over time and repeat viewings (There Will Be Blood, American Psycho) and some that would probably have been at the top of my lists 10 years ago have lost something for me now (Saving Private Ryan, Almost Famous). Long story short, if I rank something as being one of the best movies of the year or decade, I would bet I have watched it a minimum of 3 times - usually once with a commentary if there is one. I have been pathetic enough to watch a movie that blew me away 3 times in one weekend. So I guess it does not compute when people say they will rarely watch something again. If I love a movie, I will rewatch it regardless of what type of movie it is.

This is how I have been trying to play it too. I was getting too silly with the movie collection of crap that was embarrassing to look at on the shelf. Tried to trim it down to ones I can honestly say would be some of my 50-100 favorite movies or be the best of year or something like that, and movies that had a bunch of features that I would be interested in going through. No more buying Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure - even if it is ONLY $4!!

I own in the neighborhood of 275 Blueray/DVD's not including all my rock concert Blueray/DVD's (add another 50 )

I can say I own all these because I love every single one of them. There are ton's of movies I can watch over and over. Over the last 5 years though I have slowed down a tonbuying movies as lately....I have not found a ton I would watch again and again.

Anyway I finally watched Moneyball on Starz last night. I am a baseball junkie already......and needless to say I thought the movie was great.

So good I will buy this when it goes on the discount rack one day. Brad Pitt and Seymor Hoffman were fantastic in this one.

Never seen it. Just pointing out that in a movie named War Horse you should probably expect the horse to shine.

Any Battlestar Galactica fans in here? Just about to finish up Deadwood and need a new series to jump into. Any need to watch the 2003 mini-series or should I just jump into the series from 2004? I know nothing about this show other than it is highly rated.

YES!! Absolutely necessary. It loses focus from time to time but as a whole it might be my favorite show ever.

Personally I can't believe he got nominated for an Oscar for that performance. It was ok but I like a comment from someone on his acting in that movie: "it ain't acting if you're snacking".

Also on the subject of re-watching movies I'm basically out on that. Don't like it at all. Those times I do re-watch movies was when I have a significant enough time gap between the viewings were I forget a great amount of detail and by significant I'm talking multiple years. Even than I'm never excited to re-watch a movie.

After Suckbiscuit, I decided I was done with horse movies. Suckritariat? No thanks. War Hoary? Nope.
