i'd add "willow", "ladyhawke", "maverick", and "hildago" off the top of my head.

This has not aged well. Soundtrack may be one of the most grating things I've ever listened to, makes it nearly unwatchable.

My brother in law calls it Disco-hawke.

I think the whole thing is good.Act 1 is slower than act 2. Act 2 is different than act 1.It is never at any point an action or science fiction end of the world film. It is a meditation on the nature of depression. If that is not what you are looking for then the answer is no, it does not get better.

It's not great, not really even very good but this is not the worst film ever made so that's something, right? I knew all that going in. Just didn't realize it would be so mind-numbingly dull.

I thought it was fascinating to watch and had excellent performances. However I completely understand why many, if not most, would feel the way you do.

Small Town Murder Songs

Similar to Fargo in that it's a short story that deals with how the local police of a small town deal with a murder in their jurisdiction, but it's darker, less cartoony, and set in Canada. Beautiful cinematography and excellent acting make it worth the watch alone, but the score played hauntingly throughout is easily one of the best uses of music in film I've ever seen. Highly recommended.

I second this recommendation. Definitely see the similarities to Fargo, but there is no comedy in this one. It derives a lot of emotional wallop in a short time frame (I think it's just over an hour long) through the score and Peter Stomare's portrayal of the lead character. It's on Netflix streaming.

Hmm, I thought it was okay. Stormare was good, soundtrack was great, short running time helped it, but I really wasnt all that impressed overall. I wouldnt say its not worth seeing, but I wouldnt recommend it either. Dont think I "reviewed" it here but Id give it a 2.5/5 or so. I dont recall exactly now what they were, but a few things really bothered me (I think mostly the whole ex-GF sticking up for/with the suggested rapist/murderer and other weird choices along that storyline).I can see the subtle similarities to Fargo, but comparing this to Fargo is leading people on, by a lot, IMO.

I still prefer Kingpin, but I'll never argue too much with people about what makes them laugh.

Kingpin and Something About Mary arent far behind it for me, which is saying something for best comedies of all time. Unlike D&D and Mary, Farrelly's didnt write Kingpin though.

The Three Muskateers

I asked my FBG buddies here to recommend a good version of this classic for my son, and I believe Chaka recommended the 1993 version. Hard to beat a cast of Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O'Donnell, Oliver Platt, Tim Curry, Rebecca De Mornay, Gabrielle Anwar, Michael Wincott, Paul McGann, and Julie Delpy.

My son loves it. Mission accomplished.

That said, this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Any movie with Michael Wincott as a villain is at least a 1/5

Sure. The villains in this movie were the redeeming feature.

I saw this movie probably over 15 years ago now. I remember it had an all star cast and thats about it, but I was moreso just trying to give Wincott his well deserved credit as an actor since you mentioned him, but even moreso as a villain. The guy always brings the "ruthless" to the screen. Talk Radio, Robin Hood, Romeo is Bleeding, The Crow, Dead Man, Gunshy, Along Came A Spider, Count of Monte Cristo, Seraphim Falls. Looking back, he's made a stronger impression than I realized considering how few roles he's really had.

Watched this a few days ago and was very impressed. Granted, my expectations were very low, but this was an above average Sports flick and an above average comedy. Buoyed by a fantastic cast, Its certainly not an academy award winner in any respect, but its a very respectable sports comedy.

Certainly to an extent, although my dad snuck me in to see Dumb and Dumber when I was 9 or 10 (double feature after whatever Highlander was released in 94) and he loved it. I didnt realize the greatness until a few years down the road.Which is funny you bring up Blazing Saddles....I decided to be a spectator in that Blazing Saddles lynching a few weeks back. I think its a good comedy that definitely benefits from it time of release (and Mel deserves the credit for releasing a movie like this back then). I appreciate it and chuckle on occasion more than I find it all that laugh out loud funny throughout.

Tiny Furniture

Fans of the show Girls should definitely check out Tiny Furniture. Much the way that Danny McBride's The Foot Fist Way was a template for Eastbound and Down, Lena Dunham's Tiny Furniture is definitely on the same path as Girls. The acting is spotty at times, but overall, I really liked the movie. Not perfect, just a fun indy flick.

Watching Blazing Saddles in 2012 is like listening to Jimi Hendrix in 2012: it's harder to put them in the proper context as the years go by. In 1969, Jimi Henddrix wasn't just the best rock guitarist on earth, he was redefining the instrument. And in 1974, Blazing Saddles was a daring, almost shocking comedy. But in 2012, these exhibits are harder to appreciate in some ways.

Well, Im 27, so maybe Im starting to get to the point where I shouldnt be lumped in with *this* generation...I grew up with Super Nintendo, a walkman, snowy porn, and didnt have a cell phone until I was 16.Today, kids grow up with computers from birth, cell phones by the time they hit double digits, ipods when they decide they like a few songs, and iporn thats more endless than world hunger.

I dont know how old you are, but Im probably closer to your generation (at least in mindset/childhood), than this generation.

I've always thought that Stiller never made anything funnier than his TV series.

Ive havent seen his show really, so I cant agree or disagree with this, but it seemed like once he realized people though he was funny, he sold out as much as possible.ETA: While I think Mystery Men is solid, especially for its sub-genre, its easily not even in my dozen favorite Stiller movies. Just wanted to clarify, because MM is mostly nice for what it is, and not much more. Borderline guilty pleasure territory.

Watched Dumb and Dumber for at least the 50th time last night. Still makes me laugh out loud.

I would go so far as to call it the "funniest" movie of all time.

I dont think anyone needs to go far to call it the funniest movie ever. Just that epically timeless. Jim Carrey will be in a nursing home telling his grandkids about Freda Felcher 40 years from now.

Seriously? Think again. It would not even be in my top 50 funniest.

I also think its probably a generational thing. I am stunned that somw people here do not think Blazing Saddles is funny.

Watching Blazing Saddles in 2012 is like listening to Jimi Hendrix in 2012: it's harder to put them in the proper context as the years go by. In 1969, Jimi Henddrix wasn't just the best rock guitarist on earth, he was redefining the instrument. And in 1974, Blazing Saddles was a daring, almost shocking comedy. But in 2012, these exhibits are harder to appreciate in some ways.

Yeah, I forgot to mention this in my Generations post a few minutes ago, but niger jokes are no big deal to people my age, or people under 40 or so Id think as well. Racism, while still terrible and behind the times, is commonplace comedy these days (ie Chappelle's Show).

As previously mentioned, besides people watching it for the first time nearly 40 years after it came out, watching it edited on cable takes a lot out of it as well.

100% in agreement.

I still prefer Kingpin, but I'll never argue too much with people about what makes them laugh.

Kingpin and Something About Mary arent far behind it for me, which is saying something for best comedies of all time. Unlike D&D and Mary, Farrelly's didnt write Kingpin though.

True but they directed it. D&D is an all timer for me...

Just watched this bluray last night and you pretty much nailed the review for me too. Lots of good extras in the bluray as well. Haven't gotten through them all yet.

How about this revisionist statement: This is the worst big budget all star movie I've ever seen.

It was only a $30m movie. And you've apparently never seen Mystery Men.

Didnt like Mystery Men much first time around...Its really grown on me though. Fun movie.

I've always thought that Stiller never made anything funnier than his TV series.

Ive havent seen his show really, so I cant agree or disagree with this, but it seemed like once he realized people though he was funny, he sold out as much as possible.ETA: While I think Mystery Men is solid, especially for its sub-genre, its easily not even in my dozen favorite Stiller movies. Just wanted to clarify, because MM is mostly nice for what it is, and not much more. Borderline guilty pleasure territory.

You should rent the entire Ben Stiller series. Like now.I saw Mystery Men.
