Caught a movie called JCVD over the weekend. I saw it on Showtime (had never heard of it) and decided to record it since my GF is a fan. Once I started looking into it I was surprised at the reviews it had gotten (83% at RT).

JCVD[2] is a 2008 Belgian crime comedy-drama film directed by French Tunisian director Mabrouk El Mechri, and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as a semi fictionalized version of himself, a down and out action star whose family and career are crumbling around him as he is caught in the middle of a post office heist in his hometown of Brussels, Belgium.
worth a watch, especially for fans of his.

I thought JCVD was a surprisingly good film.

I don't know if anyone does this but on the FFA main page in the second column next to thread titles it lists the number of replies (this thread has 30,898 replies at the moment). If you click on that number a window opens listing who has posted and how many times in the thread. Well before the change to the new board format that feature was broken on this thread, not sure why but I could never get it to work.

Now I post a lot in here, 1,435 posts which is the third most, but jdogg you absolutely own this thread with 5,852 posts. Wow.

And was sigmund, the guy who started this thread, an alias? Because he only has 5 posts in here.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Fun movie. Too long. Muddled but entertaining. My only problem is that I have grown to dislike Tom Cruise over the years. Guy bothers me. He has a bright, friendly smile backed by cold, evil eyes.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Junk movie, but was entertaining in parts. Looked good. Was very pretty. Kristen Stewart was supposed to be the fairest in the land... what were the casting people smoking?

Yeah I had trouble buying that premise.

Yeah I think everyone had that problem (made even tougher considering that Charlize is a Grade AAA certified Hottie-Hottie-Boomba-Lottie) which is why I am guessing that after casting they added a couple throw away lines about Snow White's purity.

I found that even harder to buy. I found her to be playing more stupid than pure.

We saw Mud over the weekend. Not a fan of McConaughey (or Witherspoon), but this was really good.
Looks interesting. Solid cast.
The kids are really the main characters, but everyone plays their roles very well. The most shocking acting turn came from the guy who plays Mickey Doyle in Boardwalk Empire - it took me a while to recognize him he's so different. I think you'd like it.

Sin City - 6.75/10

Not quite a 6 (which is starting to get kind of bad) but not a 7 either (which is the start of kind of good).

It was too long, but it looked cool. I enjoyed the first 3/4 quite a bit but by the time it ended I was really ready for it to end.

Rosario Dawson is smoking hot.

Carla Gugino...thank you. They're real and spectacular - just like I imagined.

Jamie King...I don't know if they're real. It doesn't matter. They're spectacular.

In sum - Liked it. Would not watch again.

Sin City has a ton of rewatchability for me. If for anything, its because of Mickey Rourke's 20 minute storyline of awesomeness, but Clive Owen's is good as well.

Didn't Alba poll dance in this?

I own Sin City. While I enjoy it, some of it is ugly and coarse. But I think the Rourke segment borders on great.

Oblivion.

Would put it on par with Prometheus. Entertaining popcorn flick that was enjoyable on the big screen. But I'd probably pay just to watch Olga eat lunch.

5/10

I liked it, but I liked Prometheus a lot more.

I liked Oblivion's final act better (that's where Prometheus kind of flew off the deep end), but I liked the "discovery phase" of the plot a lot more in Prometheus, especially since most of Oblivion's (at least the first hour) was trying to lead you in a direction that you already knew to be false from the trailers.

Malcom in the Middle

Running out of good movies to watch with my 10 year old, so we gave an old favorite TV show a shot. Holds up very well. Very funny and dark.

Yes. But replace pole with lasso.

To what part? I, for one, got a movie nerd boner reading about an extended cut of Tree of Life, especially if it is more of the childhood stuff.
"Tree of Life" was freaking terrible. I can only imagine what a director's cut is going to be like. I don't think the movie could be any more self-indulgent and long-winded.

Today I learned that Heath Ledger kept a "Joker Diary" in which he wrote as the Joker, and included a list of things he thought the Joker would find funny, including blind babies and AIDS.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the WorldThe kindest, most gentle, humanistic apocalyptic movie you could imagine. Its tone is out of synch with the background events, but I think that works in what it is trying to convey. Keira Knightley and Steve Carrell are perfectly cast as the everymen searching for meaning and solace as the end of the world nears. Its not without its flaws, particularly the third act, but overall a winning effort for me.3.88/5 stars
Just watched this.

I agree with the critique of the third act - it wasn't perfect. I wish they would have done a couple things differently to get to the inevitable ending. But overall, I loved this movie. It was great.

This is 40 was a steaming pile of garbage. Judd Apatow trying way too hard to be Judd Apatow. Everything that's wrong with Hollywood.

Watching Looper tonight in short stints when the kids aren't screaming. How many hours of Moonlighting do you think the main character watched before doing his bad Bruce Willis impression for that movie?

Your comments regarding Looper are surprising to me. I have not seen it yet, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a damn fine actor imo. I find it hard to believe he does a horrible job in the movie.

I didn't say he does a horrible job but it's pretty obvious he's trying to mimic Bruce Willis' mannerisms. What's silly about it is that they are portraying a character, not Bruce Willis.

There's a difference?

And what kind of warped worldview is it where the guy with the struggling record label and the gal with the...whatever shop she had...can afford a BMW 5 series and a Lexus SUV while living in an approximately 5k square foot house decorated by Ethan Allen?

And I'm supposed to feel SORRY for their financial situation? These people are morons.

I decided not to watch this when I heard about this stuff. Ridiculous premise IMO, something only a rich guy in Hollywood would come up with.

I get what you guys are saying, but I don't relate to 90% of the issues of characters in film. For me it didn't take away from the humor enough to not enjoy the movie. Sure they deal with rich issues, but they all weren't money related. I think I was more annoyed with the foul mouthed kids.

The Queen - 8/10

I really enjoyed this. The performances by Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen are top notch.

Had I seen this one before the Timdraft, I'd have taken Mirren's performance for "portrayal of an historic person" for sure.
