Alien Vs. Predator: Unrated Cut

Added some more gore. I seriously do not understand what fans of the Alien & Predator series didn't like about this movie. I think it's fun and action filled.
I agree. It won't win any awards, but it was definitely a fun movie to just sit and watch.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Really, really liked it. Downey, Jr. and Kilmer had amazing chemistry together, I thought. The dialogue was well written and the comedic timing of the actors was perfect most of the time. It didn't even matter that the plot was a bit contrived.
I think that since the film is an omage / satire of film noir, the contrived nature was intended. I think this is a very funny movie. I saw two minnutes out of context on Ebert & Roeper and it looked terrible. But it has a silliness that grew on me.

Because it was not all that it could have been. It was a decent movie, but when you have two of the biggest Sci-Fi icons of the past 25 years it has to be great.

Strenuously disagree.

I disagree that is "has to be great". It can be evaluated independently.

To each her own.

The Hills Have Eyes - Not sure if this movie has been mentioned yet. I'm not a big horror, blood and guts movie kinda guy, but the storyline is intriguing...I'm contemplating adding it to my Netflix list.

Between 1945 and 1992, the U.S. government conducted over 311 nuclear tests in the deserts of New Mexico. Some of the residents refused to leave, exposing themselves to dangerous levels of radioactivity. On July 17th, 2005 two unsuspecting families, on a cross-country trip to California, met those residents.

It sounds like the controversial "Home" episode from The X-Files, which I liked :excited:

You do know it is a remake. Right?

Yes, but only after reading about it.

:X

I thought AVP and Catwoman were the worst movies to come out last year.  Painful.
What didn't you like about AVP?
They overdid the human angle. Humans should have only been there to bridge the action between awesome fight scenes or tense "seek and destroy" scenes. The lead actress in particular just wasn't believeable. I'm sorry, but I've been spoiled by Ripley as a heroine. There weren't any "stand up and cheer" moments...or ones where you caught yourself nodding, smiling and thinking "oh F yeah".

Zero suspense, and only three fights...with two Predators killed by the same Alien...what the hell is that?

Overall it was an ok movie (and I've seen it about 10 times) that could have been much, much better. PG mothereffing 13??????? In an Alien Vs. Predator movie?????? It's EXACTLY the kind of watered down pusification that they did with SPAWN in order to get a big opening weekend.

I "laughed out loud" several times, particularly at Kilmer's character.

Running Scared-   - I liked it, I would say it's worth a rental. A few slow parts, and I really wasn't too impressed with Paul Walker. Pretty unique, action packed movie. There is even a scene where some Russian hockey players are taking slap shots at Paul Walkers face
I hate Paul Walker in almost anything he does, but this is still a worthwhile movie rental.

Just finished watching Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and I really enjoyed it. The witty banter was entertaining and I like the seemingly random narration. Really enjoyed it.

There was a line that was probably considered a throw-away that had me rolling. When Kilmer (Perry) was dropping Downey, Jr. (Harry) off at his hotel after the stakeout, they had this great exchange where Harry says (something like), "Sorry I threw away your gun," and Perry just says, "Die." I don't know why, but it killed me. :lmao:

Green Street Hooligans- FBG's rent this now!

It is about the soccer hooligans in England, and how each team has a firm (like a gang) that fights the other teams firms. Interesting look inside profesional soccer, and it's die hard fans. A bunch of cool fights, but the lingo was hard to pick up on sometimes. I don't think Elija Wood was the best guy for the role either, I just can't seriously picture him being tuff.
:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: Rented this after reading this post. EXTREMELY good movie. I actually thought Wood was great for this role...kinda reminded me of Rudy (another flick I really enjoyed). I'm not sure what other runty little guy would have made the same impression as Wood made, but I can see how people could pigeon hole him into the LOTR character. IMHO he worked well here though.

But I really really liked this. Good action. Great development of relationships between various characters. Solid acting all around.

Probably in the top 3 movies I've seen this year easily. Exceptional recommendation Quez! Much thanks!

Cars

Obviously not the greatest movie ever made, but if you have kids and/or are into cartoons and auto racing, you'll enjoy it.

Thats funny that you mentioned Rudy. Sean Astin was actually the guy I told my gf they should have got to play the role. Maybe it's becaus he has a little more weight on him, so I would picture him as a better scrapper.

 saw it a few years ago. rented that and "Romper Stomper" (Russell Crowe) in the same nite.

both were very good.

though "Chopper" was much crazier. good movie.

I'm going to give "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" a shot. Man, I'm in comedy search desperation mode. "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle" was definitely NOT the answer. And it was "fool me once..." on "The Producers". I remember being very disappointed by the first version years ago, especially considering all that I had heard and read about it. Decided to give the Lane/Broderick version a try. I shouldn't have.

Has anyone seen Wes Craven's remake version of "The Hills Have Eyes" yet? (DVD debut was June 20th)

I had a similar line that floored me.
Perry: "You know what you find next to idiot in the dictionary?" Harry: "My picture?"  Perry: "no, the definition of the word idiot, which you are"

Alien Vs. Predator: Unrated Cut

Added some more gore. I seriously do not understand what fans of the Alien & Predator series didn't like about this movie. I think it's fun and action filled.
Agreed. I saw it on the movie channel and I enjoyed it. I think both the Alien franchise and the Predator franchise were portrayed honestly and well.
I just watched this one again and will now put it in my "just watch the action sequences" list of films whenever they're on TV. I like a lot of the fights, both franchises and am wondering when they are going to pump out AVP II? I mean, it's totally set up for it at the end. What are they waiting for?

No diggity. They had great rapport, and that made for some funny deliveries.

LONDON-   You may like it if your idea of a good movie is watching people stand in a bathroom doing blow for 3/4 of the film.
Looks bad. The only reason I'd see that is to hear the Crystal Method soundtrack.

Went to imdb.com, and I didn't see anything about this being a remake, but your description sounds EXACTLY like a UK movie called The Football Factory. Like I said, not sure if it's a remake of that one, but I could go on for hours about how much I hate Hollywood remakes. Check that one out, and see if it's better. If it's the same story, I can tell you the UK original is better, without even seeing the one with Frodo in it.

Watched Night Watch last night. Been wanting to see it for a while. A Russian movie that has just been released in the states. I thought it was pretty good, although from reading I have done after watching it, the books that it's based on are much better (shocker). Here's a description:

This first installment of the trilogy based on the best-selling science fiction novels by Russian writer Sergei Lukyanenko plays upon the tension between light and dark, pitting the superhuman Night Watch patrollers (known as the "Others") against the shadowed forces of the night. But the biggest fear of all stems from the lines of an ancient prophecy, which warns of a renegade Other whose betrayal could bring chaos to the land.

I just watched the trailer for The Football Factory. According to IMDB, it was made in 2004 and GSH was made in 2005...would shock me if GSH was actually a remake of this one, though I did see several similarities to it in the trailer. May have to check this one out too, though...it did look grittier than GSH, but then again what can you really tell from just the trailer?

40 Year Old Virgin was putrid. Thing was so boring, I didn't laugh once. My wife turned to me and said "This thing is supposed to be a comedy"? halfway through the movie. Considering my wife through Anchorman was great and this one starred half of that cast, and we both like the Office, I'd have to say this movie was a major disappointment.
overblown for sure. i laughed a couple times. but not really anything more than a chuckle. seriously let down by this movie.

Wow.I thought it was the best movie I saw in 2005.
