Green Street Hooligans- FBG's rent this now!

It is about the soccer hooligans in England, and how each team has a firm (like a gang) that fights the other teams firms.  Interesting look inside profesional soccer, and it's die hard fans.   A bunch of cool fights, but the lingo was hard to pick up on sometimes.  I don't think Elija Wood was the best guy for the role either, I just can't seriously picture him being tuff.
:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: Rented this after reading this post. EXTREMELY good movie. I actually thought Wood was great for this role...kinda reminded me of Rudy (another flick I really enjoyed). I'm not sure what other runty little guy would have made the same impression as Wood made, but I can see how people could pigeon hole him into the LOTR character. IMHO he worked well here though.

But I really really liked this. Good action. Great development of relationships between various characters. Solid acting all around.

Probably in the top 3 movies I've seen this year easily. Exceptional recommendation Quez! Much thanks!
###ing great movie. It had been a while since i looked in this thread, glad i did to see this. Didn't even wait for netflix, just went out and rented it. GREAT movie.

Obviously not the greatest movie ever made, but if you have kids and/or are into cartoons and auto racing, you'll enjoy it.
A bit long for a kid's movie, but very good.
Agree on length. Wan't very interesting either. Caught myself nodding off a couple times. Never saw mucch in the way of previews and thought the Speed racer type character sucked. Then I saw the credits and knew why. Owen Wilson is just one terrible actor. And wtf was with the language (hell at least once) and one piss joke. Surprising for a G movie. All in all meh. Wished I'd waited for the rental.

Going through LOST season 1. Excellent commentary - I like how they'll actually stop the action to show some behind the scenes stuff, and then continue it.

My wife and I got addicted to this as well. I got pretty annoyed when I went to buy season two and it's backordered until October ( ! ).

I posted this review of "Click" over on my movie review board and thought I'd share.

Just got back from seeing the new Adam Sandler comedy "Click", which tries real hard to become a summertime modern era version of "A Christmas Carol"...but falls a little short.

CLICK has been advertised relentlessly, so you probably know the main plot by now. Adam Sandler is a busy architect who is given the "gift" of a universal remote that controls not only his TV, but aspects of his life as well. He can mute a barking dog, fast forward through arguments, and pause time to smack around his boss. As he forwards through time, he starts to sense that he should have stopped and smelled a few roses along the way (although it's certainly not what he makes his boss smell). In the end Sandler realizes that time is the most precious "gift" of all (awww).

The performances are ok, with Christopher Walken standing out as a kooky inventor that puts the Beyond way at the end of Bed and Bath. Sandler hits the right notes as he goes through several "ghosts of Christmas future" scenarios, but overall he's still playing the passive/aggressive part he's usually cast for. Outside of looking good in a pair of short shorts, Kate Beckinsale isn't given a lot to do and sleepwalks through her role as the neglected wife. I didn't really buy her and Sandler as a romantic couple either. David Hasselhoff does what he can as Sandler's slightly clueless boss and Henry Winkler and Julie Kavner pull some heartstrings as Sandler's parents. My hat goes off to a pretty fearless performance by Sean Astin, whose puffy lifeguard got the biggest laugh in the theatre I watched this in.

As with most time-travel movies, it's best not to try and think too much. I caught myself doing it during the movie ("he knows he has a reverse button, right?") but decided to consciously turn it off. Trust me, you'll enjoy the movie a lot more if you leave that part of your brain in the car.

I enjoyed the sections where Sandler was able to use the 'menu' function to revisit certain times of his life, which included commentary track narration by James Earl Jones. He gets to recount some good times (the first kiss with his wife), and some not so good times (best left to your imagination).

The main problem overall is with Sandler's character Michael. Is this really a guy we're supposed to feel sorry for? If you've seen the trailers, you've no doubt witnessed the scene in which his son is playing catch with the smartmouthed neighbor kid. While Sandler's sons thrown ball is in flight, Sandler pauses time and moves down the baseball mit of the neighbor kid. Once time is restored, the ball smacks the kid square in the face (ho ho ho). I mean, that's hilarious exposing a kid to potential blindness or brain damage, right? Didn't get one laugh in the theatre I was in. Don't get me wrong the kids a total jerk, but I kinda started feeling sorry for him later in the movie. It's a battle of wills between a ten year old and a forty year old, with the adult running over the kids toys and such (hee hee hee). That Sandler's character came across as such a sociopath most of the time shouldn't have been a surprise, because it's par for the course in most of his stuff.

Sure, I laughed every time the dog humped the stuffed animal and I got a little misty at some of the father/son scenes, but overall I can't recommend paying full price to see this one. It'll make for a good rental or cable view though.

NOTE: There is a potential drinking game to be had with this movie. Every time a product brand is shown or stated, do a shot. The showcasing of Twinkies alone ensures even the staunchest party animal will get a good buzz.

This weekend I rented a couple of vids. "American Movie", about a wannabe independent movie maker in Wisconsin and "Serenity" the outerspace action flick.

The "American Movie" guy comes off as goofy and delusional, but his short film 'Coven' (which he constantly pronounces COE-vehn) shows some potential. There's a bunch of oddball characters around him, including one guy that's probably been to one party too many. This film is an acquired taste, so I wouldn't suggest buying it, but it's worth a rental. Thing to watch for: It was a little creepy how much this dude's girlfriend looked like his mom.

"Serenity" was much better than I thought it would be. Very good effects for the limited budget they had, and I thought the plot twist was interesting. The crew was a bunch of caricatures, but I bought into it. Don't know if this one has rewatch potential, but I give it a gold stamp rental approval if you're into the space adventure/drama thing.

Finally got around to watching Rushmore last night. Excellent movie.
Whaaaa? You hadn't seen that? One of my faves.
I know. I know. It's one of those films that's been on my list forever, but for whatever reason I hadn't seen it. I'm sure we've all got a few of those that fit the bill.

Not only am I addicted to the series, but I'm going through the old LOST thread now as well and keeping pace (posts to episodes) with the show. Kind of funny reading all the old posts from people begging Shick not to delete the thread.

I made it through about 20 minutes of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Any reason to continue?

It wasn't looking so good.

Yeah, I seem to recall that the first thread got deleted due to some racial joke.

It's a clever movie, but you have to get used to the silly dialogue. It's simultaneously satirizing and memorializing film noir.

I love American Movie, and I think it's one of the most inspiring films I've ever seen. These guys are proof that doing is much harder than talking.

The Downy narration was really annoying.I'll give it another shot.

I highly recommend The World's Fastest Indian

The movie is the true story of a 67-yr old man from New Zealand (Anthony Hopkins) who's dream is to race his custom made motorcycle on Utah's salt flats in hopes of setting the land-speed record. The movie, which is set in 1967, is about his journey and the people he meets along the way to reaching his goal. Great inspirational and feel good movie. IMO, an Oscar worthy acting performance by Hopkins

Honestly Rushmore was ok but I hated Magnolia, Tennenbaums, with a passion. I really haven't like a lot of movies that have come out lately, I don't know why. I really didn't like 40 year old virgin either, it was ok but overall it was a average movie.

Some recent ones I liked were Old school, Wedding crashers, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, Van Wilder.

These are some from my collection that I can think of right now, Something about Mary, Let it ride, Private Ryan, Unforgiven, LOTR series, Bueller, Animal House, Stripes, Caddy Shack, Vacation, Harvey, High Fidelity, Grosse Point Blank, Airplane, Band of Brothers, Usual Suspects. Alladin Lion King, Swingers, Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Princess Bride, Austin Powers, Waterboy, Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, Slap shot, Office space, Naked Gun.

I just saw click, I hated it because I wanted a comedy. If you go into it with the attitude that you want to see the Christmas Carol with a remote instead of Ghosts I am sure you will love it.

You might want to consider giving it another viewing at some point. It's much funnier than Rushmore or any of the other Wes Anderson films, IMO.

Running Scared w/ Paul Walker,i gotta be honest the use of the f' bomb was soooooooo excessive it took over the entire plot.... shame..

I just watched a British movie called "The Bunker" (2001). It is about a handul of German soldiers retreating to a bunker as American forces advance. Apparently surrounded and with little ammo left, they explore a series of tunnels beneath the bunker and weird things start happening.

The cover leads you to believe it is a zombie flick but it is really more of a supernatural/psychological thriller.

Pretty decent flick although the ending could have been better. I liked it.

I saw two movies this weekend.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton

My wife made me watch it, but it was surprisingly good in a cutesy/cheesy sort of way.

:bag:

The Squid and the Whale

The disintegration of a family in the midst of divorce. Interesting movie, great character study, great acting all around.

Three Kings

Wasn't too bad. About three US soldiers after the gulf war who plot to steal Saddam's cache of stolen Kuwaiti gold. I think what made this movie unique was there were some strange mixes of emotions. It is billed as a dark comedy and that about sums it up. There are a few pretty intense and emotional scenes, and mixed in with them is some humor that you wouldn't expect considering what else is going on in the scene.

It did keep me interested though, and although I'm sure it is mostly fiction, still made me go "whoa" to some of the things they portrayed about life after the war in Iraq for the US army, the republican guard, and the iraqi civilians. Pretty good movie.

Bottle Rocket is brilliant. I died laughing when Owen Wilson does those bird calls as he's getting beat up.
