I recently saw Lucky Number Sleven staying at a hotel. It was a surprisingly good action/crime drama flick and if you didn't see it in the theaters, I would recommend catching it when it comes out on DVD. Josh Hartnett is pretty good as the main character and the cast includes, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley, Lucy Liu and Stanley Tucci.

Silent Hill- not that good. Story was kind of stupid and hard to follow. Ending was bad. Wasnt scary at all. VERY gory which I like but that and the music was the only thing going for it.

Training Day



Can't remember if I got the reco from this thread or somewhere else, but very good movie with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. Cop action/drama, kept me on my toes throughout the entire movie. Some great plot twists, very satisfying ending. Very much recommend....great flick.

I never thought that Denzell deserved an Oscar for this. Then I watched it again the other day and saw how great his acting was in that. He reminds me of the job Daniel Day Lewis did in Gangs of New York.

He didn't deserve it, though he's an excellenrt actor.Both Sean Penn (My Sister Sam) and Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind) had much better performances that year.

The movie was nothing memorable, but I seriously didn't think it was that bad. I will say this: Orlando Bloom and the Greek king were god-awful. And for such a historic characer, Helen was the epitome of "meh". Otherwise, I've seen much worse.

Yeah, the original Omen from 1976 (I believe). I'd never seen it before. Not entirely sure what the big deal was about it, but now at least I can say I've seen it. After 1 viewing, and having never seen any of the sequels, I must say I'm not really a fan.

Watched On Native Soil the other night...it was pretty good overall

Documentary on the 9/11 commission, how it got started, how it progressed, and what it found. Had some pretty interesting survival stories, the accounts of what happened with each plane, and the mess within our transportation & government agencies

Watched Munich and the first Pirates of the Caribbean this week.

Munich gets 3 out of 5 stars. Spielberg made some effort to be objective about the post-Munich assasination attempts, but I still felt that overall the movie was pretty biased. The plot seemed to meander a bit in several different directions, but I thought the acting was solid.

Pirates gets a 4 out of 5. Depp was fantastic. I am rapidly becoming a fan of his work and intend to rerent some of his earlier movies (with the notable exception of Private Resort). IMO Bloom just does not cut it as an action hero. I loved him as Legolas, but while his pretty-boy looks work as an Elf archer, they dont work so well as a sword-wielding pirate wannabe.

I also saw part of Spike Lee's documentary on Katrina last night. Some nice footage of the flood and of those who lived through the mess. But I gave up on it when they started to portray the idiot mayor as some kind of hero, suggesting that his profanity-laced rant on the radio was what finally spurned on the relief efforts. Spike Lee is a black Michael Moore, his liberal bias detracts from his considerable talent as a director.

A film noir crime drama set in a high school. I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I'd give it 4 out of 5 Netflix stars. A good rental.

I didn't mind Troy but I think that 300 ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416449/ ) is going to be the definitive kick ### movie on Ancient Greece. With movies like Troy and Pearl Harbor ( which my wife thinks is nuts for liking) I like the fact that I am able to view a re-creation of historical events and past times. While its true the stories are weak, I enjoy seeing the images of one hundred Japanese Zeroes in the air, or the Titanic #### up in the Northern Atlantic, or 10,000 Greeks storming Troy. These are things that I'll never see; and while I can read about them and envision them in my mind; it's always helpful to see them laid out on the big screen.

I'm going to have to give this another try. I turned it off after about 30 minutes because it was so darn slow, but perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood. I absolutely loved Oldboy, and I've heard good things about Park's third installment.

Agreed. A movie about Thermopylae has potential... I'll probably see it regardless of how bad it is for those reasons.

Crash - Meh. Seriously overrated. I don't see why it's so well regarded. It has one point, and bludgeons the viewer with it.

I'm married. That just means I'm emasculated. Not completely female.

Well I may be female after all. Or at least turning gay. NTTAWWT.I really liked it. I though it was a very touching love story.

And I think Rachel McAdams may be at the top of my "it girl" list, even ahead of Johannsen or Theron. She's maybe not as beautiful as those two, but she is more attractive.

Watched The Notebook this weekend after some guys told me it "wasn't bad." Thought it was very It trys its hardest to be a big tearjerker and succeeds in parts but I just couldn't get into it. Rachel McAdams is indeed , but this is a very poor chick flick as I don't think it has much to offer guys other than her to drool at for an hour.

Closer - boring first 45 minutes then gets excellent as the relationships start falling apart

Rock School - interesting movie annoying teacher. the zappa fest was interesting

We Jam Econo - excellent documentary for any minutemen fans.

Blade 3 - was awful. enjoyed the first 2 but this one was so bad. jessica beihl was smoking in this though

Worlds Fastest Indian - was just ok for me. couldve been alot shorter. might be a better watch on a boring sunday afternoon rather than a rental.

Yesterday - great HBO movie about aids in south africa. very well acted although I didnt recognize any actors.

Mean Creek - really liked this movie. all of the kid actors were very good. strong story also. cool to see a movie about being a teen that isnt dumbed down.

Firecracker - awful movie that I netflixed cause it stars Mike Patton. he needs to stick to music

Empire Falls - above avg but not great flick. Newman was awesome in this. So funny and different for him.

Kiss kiss bang bang - very clever and funny. loved the characters and style.

game 6 - ebert gushed all over this but I really didnt like it at all. red sox fans might dig it though.

An Unfinished Life - cool story and excellent characters. all 3 leads were great (redford, JLo, freeman)

have sorcerer coming next due to a tip in one of these movie threads.

The Sentinel

Not bad at all. They never should have released this movie when 24 was still running its season. It made it seem way too much like another episode of 24, which it approximates, but is different enough to stand on its own merits. This is a Michael Douglass movie, not a Keifer Sutherland one.

I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Eva Longoria is very pretty. And that's all she's there for.

Has anyone who has NOT liked Crash done so for some reason other than "the issue of race relations was crammed down my throat?" I agree with that statement, but it did nothing to take away from how much I really enjoyed the movie. I haven't seen any one on here give any other reason for not liking it. Just curious.

I thought that parts of it were; particularly with Matt Dillon and the insurance woman. What interested me in Crash was the racisim you usually do not hear about; black against black and minority versus minority.

This is a good way of putting it. It felt like you could just see the writers and screenwriters in pre-production planning standing up and saying "WE ARE GOING TO MAKE AN EDGY, CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT!! And we have to do it in a manner blatant enough that the dumbasses at the Academy cannot help but recognize our progressiveness!"

The characters were emotionless and the talent of the cast was vastly underutilized. The Poseidon Adventure is one of my all time favorites so it was a huge disappointment to see a movie shread the original that badly. I usually don't carry the same hate as others do for remakes but it Poseidon really made me understand why people do hate remakes.

The other movie I watched was the Pink Panther... I've never seen the original's so while it wasn't a great movie I got a few laughs.

troof.Dr. Strangelove is one of my all-time favorites but the Pink Panther is incredible.

I'm already ashamed I haven't seen any of them. Sellers is the man so I will have high hopes when I do watch the originals.

I liked Inside Man... Spike Lee was forcing racial undertones into the movie that either could have been added more naturally or excluded all together.

Peter Sellars = genius.

I like Steve Martin, but remaking the Pink Panther is like remaking Apocalypse Now. If you can't improve upson the original, don't bother.

Based on recommendations in this thread, I rented Oldboy. Wow. Pretty metal. I dig Asian extreme cinema, and this was a perfect example of that genre. Hard to watch, but sort of funny at times, also.
