Here are some of my favorite shows. I am not looking for feedback on my likes/dislikes.

Lost

Mad Men

Breaking Bad

Archer

Homeland

House of Cards

24

Californication
I was thinking about this topic today, just finished Boardwalk Empire yesterday after a multi week binge. It was outstanding. Great acting, period sets and wardrobes, a glimpse at the early stages of organized crime in NYC and Chicago, the rise and fall of prohibition in AC. Lots of drinking, smoking, nudity, badass murders. Highly recommended. Available on HBOgo and on demand.

I am looking at Mad Men, Sopranos, Deadwood, or Archer for my next binge if anyone wants to recommend one.
I really like Mad Men, but I have a hard time binging that one.

There's a lot to absorb in each episode...I think that one is better watched live...then you have the water cooler/intenet discussions about the characters motives, historical backdrop, subtle things you may have missed....it's a fine scotch...you can't guzzle it like beer

love that show. "whatchoo talkin' 'bout, alice?"
And that sassy waitress Flo Garrett would talk back to her boss: "Kiss my grits, Mr. Drummond"
wrong show- you're thinking about Sanford and the Suns
Steve Nash was great in that show.
Don Johnson is always great.
He is quite the singer.

I would have never guessed Flo would eventually move onto selling auto insurance.
that's my wife's aunt!
Well, Kiss my grits!
And little Tommy grew up to be Motley Crue's drummer. Crazy.

To give some context to The Shield, I read a Rolling Stone interview with Stephen King the other day in which he said he watched a lot of TV so they asked him what was the best show of the past 15 years. He answered Breaking Bad, but then he added that 12 years ago he started watching The Shield, and at the end of the first episode he thought to himself, "TV just underwent this seismic change." He said it was the most important show on television, that Breaking Bad is better but The Shield changed everything. Unfortunately, it's not on Netflix. However, the whole series is currently on special at Amazon for $24.99. I bought it and am looking forward to showing it to my girlfriend and seeing it again for the first time since it ended six years ago.

I streamed The Shield on Amazon Prime....They also periodically have it up on Crackle (for free w/ commercials)

The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Shield, and The Wire get a lot of credit, but I think it was Oz that really changed TV. There was also a short-lived Fox show called Profit that was a forerunner of Dexter but it was canceled after one season. Network TV is simply too limited in what they can do in a drama.

That's an amazing price. As a huge fan of the show, I bought each season as it was released, at $40 a pop.
