I may be looking through everying with Burgandy and Gold glasses but........Betts resigning, the O-line run blocking looks better and better every week, no players should be leaving due to F/A, and a high draft pick.

All of these things have me very encouraged for next season. Betts signing in particular has me looking forward to a nice combo of Portis/Betts, personally I'd like to see about a 50/50 split of carries.

Until they improve the 1) OL's pass blocking, 2) the DL, and 3) the safeties learn how to play within the system...we've got major issues.

#3 can be solved.

# 2 will be unsolved, unless Gregg Williams decides to jump ship. I'm a fan of Williams, but his schemes do not lend to getting pressure from the DL.

#1 is a total disaster. The skill players we've picked up are failing because the QB has no time. I watch SEA, IND, CHI...damn....those QBs have all day. They probably go through 3 or 4 progressions before pulling the trigger. Not to mention Randy Thomas will probably be cut for cap reasons, and he's among their best blockers. Jansen and Samuels are nice, but overpaid considering how much pressure they give up.

I always hold out hope, but I think you are seeing a mirage. If done right, this will take 2-3 years to fix. They need picks...not FAs. And they just don't have picks.

They're not going to pay Portis that kind of money to split carries 50-50 IMO. He'll either carry most of the load or they'll look to move him and use that cash elsewhere.

It's Dan Snyder. He doesn't care about the cash, or what he is paying his players so long as he gets results on the field.

I'm encouraged on offense - I think a fully healthy Portis combined with Campbell getting his starting experience this year plus a full offseason and training camp as the starter bodes well for them. They're already doing more on offense with him in there than they were Brunell.

Defense is more problematic. I happen to think that their major problem is at LB. Marcus Washington doesn't look as good this year as in past years, Marshall is not good enough at MLB, and while they're now starting McIntosh at WLB they've been playing with a ghost there in Holdman. If you look at their defensive stats, week in and week out, their safeties and d-linemen lead the team in tackles. That's awful.

I think their line is in ok shape for now, although Daniels and Wynn at LDE are a bit long in the tooth. Rogers needs to step it up at CB after a strong finish to his rookie season - he's had a sophomore slump.

I'd like for their first rounder to go towards a play-making DE or MLB. Given that they could end up with a very high pick, they probably ought to trade down to help their depth.

In terms of Brunell4MVP's comments about Williams and the d-line, the fact is that Williams and Blache have gotten more out of less with that d-line that I've thought possible. People forget how well that line played for the first two years under Williams with some very scant talent. I think that their big mistake was letting some key defensive players go (Pierce and Clark) which created some holes that the entire defense has paid for this year. The adding of Golston and Montgomery at DT looks very promising going forward.

I want this team to have as few changes as possible going into next year given that I believe that a primary problem in recent years has been their mercurial way of handling the coaching staff.

...Denver will get their 3rd rounder, I believe. However, there are 100 different trade scenarios that could occur, including Denver and Washington trading their 1st rounders.
