We are getting closer and closer the NFL going MLB style and "ya know what, each team gets their own private network. Just 12.99 per week!"
I honestly don't know why they don't offer a team package. 17 games, a hundred-something dollars, they'd get plenty of subscribers. Get all your team's games. No fumbling about with who's on which service for which game... who has the Thursday package, who has Monday Night, etc.
I mean, I know
why, but not why... because actually all the sports leagues overall are woefully under-capitalized. I think at one point recently the NFL had a smaller overall market cap than Sherwin-Williams paint. I'd read somewhere this year that the NBA makes about $4 per fan, per year. They have these big blockbuster rights deals but they really seem to be leaving a lot of money on the table. A lot of owners seem to be stuck caring only about gate revenue and refreshment profits in the stadium on game day and missing a lot of opportunity outside their walls. That's why those dumb broadcast blackout rules were on the books after all... killing the fanbase because their priority was filling seats.
Some day one of these leagues is going to figure out how to be fan-forward and actually earn way more than they are now in doing so.
