Reggie Bush Bothered By Ankle Injury (1 Viewer)

For those interested:

ESPN's Bob Holtzman reports Reggie Bush has been bothered by a sore left ankle for the past three weeks.

Bush wasn't on the injury report and says he's at 85-90 percent currently. He hasn't missed a practice all week. Bush did have a minor ankle injury in February at a celebrity basketball game, but we doubt that has lingered this far. Don't be afraid to use him in a nice matchup against Indianapolis.

Any idea why would this just come out 30 minutes prior to kickoff, and not prior to fantasy drafts, if it's a 3 week old injury?
Maybe so as not to give too much away to the Colts, or to throw them off the trail at the last minute???Either way, he will play, he will be electric, and he will be on a losing team by nights end.

ESPN reported this tonight as well. I'm not particularly worried, but it's something to consider if you somehow have a close call between him and someone else.

Good question. How in the world does something like this manage to stay secret? I'm calling baloney.
His ankle injury last season was kept under the radar for several weeks so I don't think this is unrealistic. That said, I wouldn't worry about Bush if I had him. I'd start him with confidence until he shows some signs on the field that he shouldn't be in fantasy lineups.

He allegedly confided in whoever was there from ESPN (Ed Werder or however you spell his name?). The first time I heard it was about an hour ago. I'm still thinking it's a non-issue.

He doesn't look real good cutting on that ankle...doesn't look as fast as last year.

Bush owner here...I'm not gonna sweat it too bad at this point, but, I'm not liking what I'm seeing early.

Something isn't right. Robb Morris beat him to the corner. Either Morris is on steroids or Bush is, indeed, bothered by an injury (or something).

Yep, I noted that exact play. I'm trying to believe it didn't happen, but, it was obvious.

looks like the same bush to me.....all hype. he still can't break a tackle. not even an arm tackle. he needs a 6 yard gap, to gain those 6 yards. 2 yard punt return, dropped pass, tripped himself up once. stecker looks better than he does.

Thanks for the post...great stuff. So are you arguing that Bush isn't hurt and looks the same as last year? If so, you must not have watch many games. Thanks again bud...run along now.

believe what you want. he has had only 2 decent runs. a delayed draw, and a draw play on 3rd and 25. he couldn't break a tackle last year, and he still can't. a phantom ankle injury...yeah i buy that

Dangit. I drafted Bush, and I was wary of the THREE ankle injuries last year (week 1, week 8, and celebrity basketball game). I mentioned it in an earlier thread, and nobody seemed to think it was a big deal, but now I'm starting to worry. It's a keeper league, so I was actually thinking about locking him up for after Deuce leaves, but this ankle thing has me nervous. Yeah, it's early, so here's to hoping for hope.

You have to admit that Reggie Bush was hyped more than any rookie that ever came out of college. Before he even was drafted the mega advertisement deal was in his back pocket and he was promoting products everywhere. Bush has not been a bust but he also hasn't lived up to the mega hype either. He's stuck in a RBBC. He has a role, a nice role, but he will always be hated by a lot of people because of getting overhyped.

More than any rookie that ever came out of college? How long have you been watching football? Two years? Three years? Guy wasn't even the first pick in the draft.Off the top of my head, Herschel Walker was more hyped. Peyton Manning was at least his equal.

Herschel Walker came out not 3 years or 10 years ago, but 22 years ago....he was a FIFTH round pick...Peyton Manning was not hyped nearly as much coming out of school as was Bush. Heck, it wasn't even clear to most fans if he was the best QB in that draft. A lot of experts liked Ryan Leaf over him. If anything, Peyton Manning was underhyped because he was compared to Leaf.

I didn't realize "ever" only covered 21 years. You may also remember that there were extenuating circumstances regarding Walker. But, keep up the good fight.

Looking things over, Reggie Bush got FAR more endorsements deals coming out of school than Herschel did. Walker for one deal that was a partnership between McDonalds and Addidas. Reggie Bush lined up deals with Pepsi, Addidas, EA Sports, Subway restaurants, Hummer, Sirius satellite radio....oh here's an article about it....http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/news/story?id=2426678

NEW YORK -- Before Saturday's NFL draft, Reggie Bush had racked up more than $1 million in endorsement money, more than any prospect in league history.

The deal with adidas was $1 million itself, the largest contract ever paid to a running back. In addition, you'll find Bush helping sell sandwiches for Subway, video games for EA Sports, jewelry for Icelink and vehicles for Hummer. The Hummer deal includes the use of its jeeps for a year; Icelink fitted him with its watches and jewelry so he would shine on draft day; and a memorabilia company in Hawaii signed him to an exclusive three-year autograph deal.

And just to think, all this advertising and marketing for the draft's No. 2 pick!
But keep fighting the good fight?

:goodposting: Endorsement dollars are obviously predictive of on-field success. I'm done here.

Because of dollar inflation and media inflation (ESPN, 24 hour cable news, etc), it's difficult to compare today's hype to 20 years ago. But there have been some college players that reached similar hype levels as Bush. Guys like Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson were mega-hyped and they were actually good running backs too. Manning and Leaf were both debated endlessly. Every year it seems like there is a new young kid to shine the spotlight on and then tear down when he doesn't turn out to be as good as advertised.

If his ankles are hurting maybe he ought to stop trying to deke the whole defense. Instead hit the holes and maybe it wouldn't take so much of a toll on his ankles. I doubt this is true, probably just a ploy to get the city of New Orleans to calm down seeing how they just got blasted by the champs.

I can see it now. When Bush struggles for most of the year, word will get out when the season is over that Bush's ankle was hurt all year, and that will be the reason many will give for his having a letdown season.

FWIW, it was reported beofre the game started. He wasn't cutting, and he was slipping way too often. That is a sign of favoring the ankle. Maybe not that he was hurting real bad, but he was probably thinking about it.

To clarify, I know that they have already said his ankle is hurt. I mean that they will say it was much worse than what everyone will be led to believe.

His ankle's not the problem. The problem is him dancing behind the ### #### line of scrimmage and not hitting the hole.
I didn't see him dancing. He wouldn't make a cut and had no vision, which is really odd for him. Most of the blame is on the O-line. They were dominated at the line of scrimage the whole night. Three plays in particular.1. the screen pass. Bush had three blockers set up and an open field in front of him. The o-line wiffed on all three blocks and a potential big play goes for 7 yards.2. On a stretch play, the o-lineman got blown up by F. Keiaho on a great play. If the the OL would have used his hands, that play could have broke.3. A pulling gaurd dives at R. Morris legs and he uses his hands to knock down the lineman and makes the great play on Bush.
