Remind me why I drafted Megatron over (1 Viewer)

do to some homerism , early QB run ,and and by the book drafters in my redraft league I was able to get Megatron @ pick 2.11 to pair with Adrian Peterson.Calvin actually went off the board at WR7...I had him ranked as my WR3 so I was very happy to grab him to go along with AD. I did have a tough decison because Roddy WHite was still available..... decided on Johnson ultimatly because I felt he had more potential to finish WR1 or WR2 by the end of the year and it would be nice to have Rb1/2 and WR 1/2.Only time will tell.....
It's a tough choice. And It is hard to argue with why someone would take Calvin over a Wayne or White. Kid is very special. Good luck this season.

Yea with Stafford out its going to make Calvin worthless. It will be like 2008 all over again when he was stuck with Dan Orlovsky, Jon Kitna and Daunte Culpepper throwing him the ball.

I mean the guy only put up 78/1331/12 that year, what a bum.

Point of the thread again is Wayne and White over Calvin. Both will finish ahead of him in PPR scoring. That's the point again. No one is saying Calvin is bad and can't produce. Stick to the topic.
In non-ppr Calvin will easily finish ahead of Wayne and will likely finish ahead of White too.

Im not so sure, calvin was pretty worthless the first half of last weeks game with Stafford in there....

I was being sarcastic. Calvin is a player that I don't think it matters all that much who his QB is. Stafford would have given him the ball plenty this year, just as Hill will. The overreaction is funny to me. It is one week.

10 and 11 targets respectively in the first two games for Calvin. He's had only 4 receptions in each game though, which is disappointing. The TD grab and 2-point conversion gave his owners a decent fantasy day.

Does anyone else think the emergence of Jahvid Best is going to open Calvin up for some big games down the road? Calvin is definitely not the only weapon on the field for the Lions anymore.

He's historically been pretty good against Minnesota with his last 6 games being:

8/84

5/51/1

3/84/1

4/85/1

1/17

4/61/1

Not too many monster weeks, but very consistent and that's alot of touchdowns.

No way I would have taken Calvin over White or Wayne, just saying. The #1 rule of fantasy football is don't draft Lions, it will save you 95% of the time.
yea that jahvid best must play for a diff team wearing a lions jersey though????? dont draft lions... thats the past buddy.. Calvin, best are gonna be two studs in this league... dont believe that for real....

"Remind me again why I drafted Megatron over Reggie and Roddy."

This is an easy one. You drafted Calvin because of upside.

You knew Roddy and Reggie will be top 10. You didn't see their upside as better than top 5. You knew Calvin could end up top 20. You saw his upside as top 1-2. You thought the stars were aligned and you took the gamble. Time will tell.

Some people say "Don't draft Lions" - this is a bit silly. Marshall caught 100 balls and double-digit TDs in Denver, which is not much better than Detroit for fantasy purposes. No reason Calvin can't top that. The pieces are there.

Other people say "Don't gamble in the early rounds" - this is a risk-averse approach. Nothing wrong with it, but it's worth pointing out that for every owner that didn't gamble early and won his league, there are probably ten owners who didn't gamble early and didn't win their leagues.

You drafted him for upside.

I was lucky enough to get him at 3.08 which was value :)

(He went after LFitz, Wayne, Andre, Moss, Austin, B Marshall and DeSean.

I took him over White Jennings and Colston.

It's only been 2 weeks and with the way Best looks the running game is gonna open things up for him some I think.

I'm still on board : :drive:

Upside is way overrated. Proven performance over a number of years: golden. Upside can be a push when two guys have equal current value, but outside of dynasty it should be a smaller factor than it is. And, even in dynasty it is easy to overrated upside over proven production. I am in the fifth year of my dynasty league and of my original 22 players, I only have 4 original players: Brees, Gates, Ronnie Brown, and Lee Evans--that's 18% of roster. Trying to project value beyond three years is almost impossible. If you are spending a first or second round pick on a wide receiver you need to KNOW, that short of injury, he is going to be a top 10 WR at a minimum. A player who has done that three years in a row is a very good bet to do it again unless he is coming off major surgery. I'll take a guy like White or Wayne or Marshall over Calvin until he has several consecutive years of top 10 production.

Your argument would probably hold better for redraft. In a dynasty, after Calvin posts the demanded "several consecutive years of top 10 production", he will cost you at least as much (if not more) than the WRs you listed.

I went into my auction fully prepared to spend $29 on Calvin or Randy Moss. Megatron came up first and I got him for $28. Dumb luck I guess, but I'll take it.

I understand that this is an old thread started around the beginning of the year, but man Calvin catches so much flack around here it's ridiculous. So far this year, his weekly point totals (non-ppr) are: 4, 13, 5, 20, 11, 20, BYE, 28

What the hell do you want from the guy?

Andre Johnson isn't even in the top 10 in scoring this year; neither are Miles Austin, Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, Desean Jackson, Brandon Marshall, or Greg Jennings.

The 4 and 5 point weeks sucked. So much hype every year and you get weeks where he has 4 and 5 points? The guy is not a #1 receiver you can count on every week like all the other #1 receivers.

Yes he is.

I really can't tell if this is a serious post or not.Andre Johnson has weeks of : 3, 6, and 0 (injured)Hakeem Nicks has a 0 and 5This stuff happens. That's why you, hopefully, drafted a good WR corps.

This reminds me of a statement one of our owners made years ago. "I'm just looking for 100 yards and a touchdown out of all my players every week.'

For some reason when I saw this I thought of pork roast. So thanks for that.As for Calvin, I Mossed him outright after his 28 point, 3 TD performance last weekend because... he complained about the pork roast.

ETA: I believe HfS forgot this-

People just don't realize that WRs are bound to have weak games here and there. Too many things out of a receiver's control have to happen in order for them to catch a ball weekly. The mechanism is bound to fail at times.

If you want more consistent points, draft a RB the next time you get the itch for a #1WR type, but even then, with all the RBBCs, that's not even a given anymore.

I traded for Calvin right after they played the Rams, his low yardage totals were worrying me so after he blew up on the Giants I tried selling him high. Couldn't get anything I wanted, so I held on to him. Then he lol'd all over the Redskins and now I am definitely keeping him.

Thinking about offering Ocho for him straight up in my dynasty league, but honestly think Ocho is going to give me a better chance to win this year, and maybe next
Wow, you can't be serious? As talented as Ochocinco is he has been a fantasy headache for nearly his whole career. Twenty points one week and two for the next four weeks. He's no Megatron, not even close and there's even more separation in a dynasty. I'd do that deal in a heartbeat if I was getting Calvin Johnson. The Lions are finally moving in a good direction and that spells good things for Calvin.
