Rent-a-Defense: Week 2 (1 Viewer)

Food for thought on those considering Oakland (I am)

Scoring in my league for DST's vs Jags in 2012 when Henne was starting (2012 defensive rank next to team).

27 (Colts- 26th)
3 (crazy shootout anomaly game vs the Texans - 7th)
13 (Titans - 27th)
19 (Bills - 22nd)
16 (Jets - 8th)
21 (Miami - 21st)
15 (Patriots - 25th)
The Jags didn't have MJD for any of those games. MJD didn't fare so well week 1, but I suspect he'll find some more success and carries in week 2.

Plus Henne threw the ball a lot in most of those games. (vs titans, 41, Pats 51, dolphins 34, NYJ 43, buff 42) If the game is close or Jax is winning, no way Henne throws it 40 times.

I didn't see the Seattle game, is Carolina's front seven as good as people have said? My league gives a point a sack
I didn't see a the whole thing but from what I did they looked good. Wilson was running for his life most of the time from what I saw.

How do people rank these: CAR, PHI, OAK, DAL?

Some places are rating Oakland #1 but now that Henne is playing I'm not so sure.

Eagles are so tempting. Rivers likes to implode, Chargers are on the east coast for a 10am game, eagles will pressure them to keep up with the score, etc. But most sites aren't rating the eagles high at all!

Wait, you really think the Jags will be playing with the lead and Henne won't be throwing as much? Can't argue MJD, but also can't support it since he didn't show anything week 1 and his line is still terrible. Not to mention they are without Blackmon or Marcedes Lewis this week, so Shorts is basically their entire receiving core.

Bottom line of these stats are that the Jags haven't really shown any improvement since last season.

I have it as Phi, Car, Dal, oak.

The same reasoning as above for Philly. For Carolina they are solid up front but they are on the road. So I knock them down a peg. Dallas gave up a ton to the giants and kc is still an unknown. Oakland I don't think is that good even against Jax.

Where would you put GB and Ari in this mix?

I'd probably go Phi, Car, GB, Dal, Oak, Ari.

Arizona is playing at home but the Lions have so many weapons. They could put up 35 without breaking a sweat. For Green Bay it all depends on Washington's offense. I don't think they're as bad as they looked last week but RG3 will still be rusty and they play on the road. GB defense got lit up last week but SF is a good team. I think GB can get some sacks and turnovers in that one.

I was able to get Philly in a couple leagues but I don't see a lot of good dumpster diving this week. Oakland could just as easily put up a stinker as they could being top 15 against Jax.

Philly has a couple good games coming up, and the high octane offense if it can sustain will bay out a middle of the road defense but this defense could be playing with a lead much of the time, that makes them dangerous and I would be inclined to want to keep them over the season. I might not like Dallas and NYG match ups as much but they are going to pounce on some teams when they are playing with a lead.

If Romo were to toss a few picks, KC could have another solid week, they are floating around still, many feel they were lucky to play Jax last week. They are going o have 4 games against Oak and SD during the year, those are gonna be nice match ups.

I know the New Orleans Saints have a lot of injuries as was pointed out in another thread but Tampa Bay is on the brink of mutiny for those Buccaneers. After Tampa the Saints get to play Palmer-AZ, THill-Mia, and Cutler-Chi b4 Brady and the bye week. I feel strongly that the Saints will score as much as they want for most of the season with an occasional ho hummer. Their defense is going to be playing with a lot of leads and that should allow Ryan to take some big chances on defense. Remember how good the Saints D was for FF when they were a strong playoff team/Super Bowl? They would get pick 6 on top of several turnovers, sacks accumulate because teams must pass to stay in it.

I think this is a defense you might enjoy for the next few weeks and not have to constantly cut and pick up.

Pitt might not be on too may waivers but are they a better start @ cincy over Oakland or Miami?
Toss up, if pitt is already on your team and it costs you money or a waiver spot to pick up oakland, then stick with pit. If, however, it costs nothing to pick up Oakland, they are the better play, but not my much, imo.

Great thread. I ended up going Philly over Carolina. Also premptively picked up titans. While they are a pass vs Houston their next three at home vs SD NYJ and KC. Nice run.

I had Philly this week, still think they will be fine. But just dumped them for Oakland. Jacksonville is activating 2 of its practice squad players for the game. QB switch, O-line's a mess, practice squad callups last minute. This could get ugly.

Ugh, went with rent-a-defense choice #1 both weeks and I've been hurting both weeks. Colts and now eagles. Just bad.

Did any of the defenses mentioned in this thread really do anything though? Seems like the top 2 choices were either Philly or Carolina.

why would you do eagles?SDC can score a lot of points and they will be on the field a lot.

No reason why people shouldn't have been on raiders this week.

I am using ATL who I grabbed last week for weeks 3 and 5 (MIA and NYJ) and picking up Colts for week 4 this week.

I am starting to really like both the Bills and the Bucs D. Bills give you plenty sack's and the Bucs didn't do half bad against the SAINTS.
