Report: Nats offer Teixeira $180 million... (1 Viewer)

Good for Henry for not only refusing to play games, but come out and say so on the market. Attention league: If anyone is using us to drive up the price, just wanted to let you know we're out of the running. Boras has been leveraging the Sox' interest to drive up Tex's price all offseason; now he's down to leveraging the two DC metro teams.
I thought he was using the DC teams to leverage the Sox and Angels. Perhaps it backfired on him, and you give him too much credit.
Don't call the Orioles a "DC team". They are VERY sensitive to that up there in Charm City. In fact, this year, for the first time in around 20 years, the O's road jerseys will say Baltimore across the front, and not Orioles.
I'm sure everyone here knew what we were talking about. I was just repeating his verbage anyway. If you're gonna beat somebody up, I can get you bostonfred's address.
I said DC metro. You called Baltimore a DC team. Big difference, unless you thought I was calling them metro teams from DC. To some extent, he's been using all of them as leverage against each other. But with Anaheim and Boston both publicly refusing to play that game, he's left with two teams that really can't afford to drive it up much on each other. We don't really know how serious either of them is about signing him at $180 million, so it's possible that his price drops even further. In any event, the bidding war pretty much died when the highest payroll teams dropped out.

I don't think you know who is in the position of power here. If Henry is playing games, Tex isn't going to the Red Sox. Boston isn't going to be able to rake them over the coals just because they're the best team that's interested. Tex is a Boras client, and is going to go where the most money is. If that's in Boston, he'll go there. If it's not, he'll be fitted for his Angels/Nats/O's uniform within the week.I REALLY don't see a Boras guy taking $10-$12 million less so that he can play for a good team. I'm sure Boras has already sold him on the prospect of putting a team like the Nats on his shoulders and carrying them out of the basement and that within 8 years they will be the Red Sox, blah blah blah. And if not, he's probably told him that the Yankees will just trade for him like they did with A-Rod.
Um.... Isn't that pretty much what ARod and Boras nearly did with the Red Sox until Gene Orza killed the deal?

Not that it really matters, but Baltimore and environs are definitely NOT a "DC suburb" or really in the "DC metro area". That 30 miles of distance between DC and Baltimore could as soon be 30,000 miles, the places are so different.

Not as a free agent. As a free agent, Boras has been talking to his guys for two years and letting them know about the mega contract they're about to receive. He does have the power to steer players pretty much where he wants them to go to some extent. And he always will guide his guys to the teams that are offering the most money so he can get his commission. If ARod had been traded to Boston, HE would've gotten less money but Boras' commission wouldn't have been affected at all.

To be honest, I have no hostility towards DC. In fact, I'm a Redskins fan. I moved to Southern MD in 1990 and became a fan of the Redskins and Orioles since they were both on HTS.

Moved to Baltimore for college and have been here ever since but remained fans of the two original teams.

It is true that for some reason that people in Baltimore hate DC teams (mainly Ravens hating the Redskins). I'm not sure how DC teams feel about Baltimore teams though...

As for Tex, I think I could spin it in a positive way whether he signs with the O's or not.

No Panty Twisting Here --> HI

Acccording to Rotoworld the Angels pulled their offer to Teixeira... Seems like the teams are getting a little annoyed at Boras and Teixeira.

About time. I hope that both Tex and Manny end up getting less than what was originally on the table for both of them after they tried to play so many teams against each other.
