Retired Cop Kills Man for Texting (1 Viewer)

It doesn't matter how big of an ### the guy that got killed was, the worst that should have happened was him getting asked to stop by management or asked to leave. The old guy should have minded his own ####### business or gotten management. It's not his right to tell the guy to stop. Besides, it was during the previews!

Amazing some of the people placing even the slightest blame on the dead guy in this.
He threw popcorn in the others guys face. He deserved a punch in the teeth.
Agreed, once it got to that point. It should have never gotten to that point. What I'm saying is it should have been theatre mgmt asking him to either stop or leave, not the grumpy old piece of ####. I doubt he would have thrown popcorn in a managers face.

Actually it is. Adults try to solve problems on their own before they go running to management.

Yeah I'm sure he would have been quaking in his boots when that 20 year old kid asked him to stop texting.

And you are assuming tons of ####, none of which is even corroborated by any report of people who were there.

If you are to be allowed to live in a society you have to be able to handle minor annoyances without killing people.
Glad to see you have all of the facts straight about this case

I didn't read the whole GD thread, but has anyone seen that the shooter confronted someone else to stop texting? Before this incident, obviously.

And I would like to say that this is what text messaging is for: moments where it is a little too rude to actually talk. Saying that the dead dude "obviously" should have left - I do not agree. It not being debatable, though? Hilarious.

Carry on.

What would probably have happened is that the manager would have come and politely asked, he'd have blown off steam about how absurd the complaint was because all he was doing was a quick text to his young daughter or something, and his wife would have told him not to ruin their rare date night out and he'd have sat down and watched the movie, likely after glaring at the retired cop and switching seats.

"Excuse me sir, I know it's only the previews, but could you please not text in the theater, as it disrupts the experience for myself and others"

"I'm sorry, I was just checking in with my daughter, but I am done and will shut off the phone"

"Thank you"

Wasnt the guy 43 and at the movies with his wife? I have a hard time believing he would throw popcorn in the managers face but since he played everything else so poorly who knows?

Not saying he would have been scared. I'm saying it because the manager is a person that actually has a right to tell him to stop. I have a feeling based on the "tattle tale" remark his issue was some random person telling him what to do.

Good to see you can still selectively weed out context that doesn't support your attacks.

Has someone at least opined that this could have been prevented by every member of the audience carrying a semi-automatic rifle into the movie theater?

Or if only this guy had recently attended a gun-training course he would have remembered that it's wrong to shoot someone over a minor dispute? Cause from what I hear all we really need to stop gun violence is proper education.
More sound irrefutable logic from the no-baloney master.

The judge hearing the case considers this quite important as does the prosecution. Shows this man is unhinged and has created this confrontation before. He was clearly a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off on someone, which blows whatever flimsy self-defense scenario the defense would try to create out of the water.

I see two #######s, where one eventually showed he was the bigger #######. People have different perspectives on things. Imagine that.

You are the one making ridiculous statements and then calling out other posters for pointing out the ridiculous statements you are making, keep up the good work.

Before it goes completely down the toilet, I will ask icon to reconsider his stance on supporting reasonable, meaningful reform from fear of opening the floodgates. I think those who support and practice their 2nd amendment rights have more to gain than lose by supporting common sense reform that could possibly curb some of the violence we are seeing from legal gun owners.

Ok, I'm out.

Sweet Serbian AK Pistol (M92PV) on sale right now for $399 if anyone's looking for a fun "spray n pray" shooter for recreational use. Cheap to shoot at .20/round or so as well. Tempting....

NOTE: pistol is a loose term here. Not suitable for concealed carry
No takers?

Cmon folks... If you squeeze off a mag or two from this baby at a tree stump and you aren't grinning ear to ear like a schoolkid then we're need to check those testosterone levels.

Yep. He should have just stopped going to movies like my wife and I have. The #######s of the world have overwhelmed the movie theater business. To fight it will only drag you down to their level and they will beat you with experience.

I don't want this, but I do want to try out the 42. I expect a few places Monday will have it.

Btw, I went to range USA and did some serious destruction to some paper today and may have even killed some of it.

i think self defense may work here

follow this argument

any time you have an argument with someone the other guy may be a lunatic with a gun ready to shoot you

as evidence to this, they can submit that in this very theatre on this very night a man was shot and killed by a lunatic with a gun

given that, it was reasonable for shooter to shoot texter so as to not get shot himself

had texter shot the shooter first the texter would be alive today, which is plenty of reason for the shooter to shoot the texter first, so he can live another day

shooting someone so you can live another day is text book self defense

Wish I would have known.... Whittaker arms had two this morning at $399ea. Keep your eyes peeled on their facebook and follow them. I got my Cold LE-6900 AR-15 from them during the height of the panic for $849. They refuse to gouge.

Hitting RangeUSA this sat night with the GF and the folks to help them get comfortable with their CC Pistols (Dad's S&W 1911 9mm, and Mom's S&W Airweight .38 Hammerless revolver)... plus taking the AR out to let them put a few mags through it.

Throw that popcorn you're eating and it's on!
Bring it on gramps....how's this suit ya :kicksrock: <-- closest I can get to kicking up dust.
Uh oh, you've done it now!

Seriously, it's just absurd and beyond sad a guy lost his life. Even joking about thrown popcorn provoking someone enough to then shoot and kill the thrower in a movie theatre is crazy.

Sad truth is I could see my dad doing something like this. He's always grumpy and feels it's his right to tell people what to do.

It seems to be a culture bred in Florida best I can tell. Their laws are a joke. I hear about very few, if any, cases like this in other states in this country. The rest that I've seen have a much higher standard for claiming self defense. Though I admit, it's hard to have a much lower standard than Florida does.

Naw, I don't hunt. That would be a "####s and giggles" gun. Set up some targets on somebody's land and light it up for kicks. My Glock is my range/CC pistol. My AR is for distance target shooting (currently sighted in nicely at 200yds). Tac-setup Remington 870 12ga is for home defense (minimizes risk of shoot-through to neighboring homes).

I'm sure you can see why some people have a problem with guns like that being accessible to the masses, right? People who don't get the whole gun thing...

Thanks, they do have good prices. I'll keep an eye out around town too. I took my girlfriend about two months ago and she is really wanting to go back. Really cool place. We need to go at lunch one day.

Of course I do. I get it I really do. That said, a shotgun would do a hell of a lot more damage in a CQC scenario like a theater or school setting than something like that would... and those aren't going anywhere. I do fully endorse stiffening the psych/background checks for stuff like that though.

They are a lot tougher to sneak into a theater, though.

Always good to see the ladies get out on the range. My GF is a hell of a shot... was pissed at me when I beat her (100% vs 98%) on the CC test. ;) It makes me a little more comfortable when she has to travel somewhere shady in the city when I can't be there. Let her take her Keltec PF9 and I can be comfortable she's capable of protecting herself if something happens.

Not really.

new breed of shotgun that is coming out that takes the 18" barrel legal requirement to the next level and (like the AK pistols) moves the chamber back creating an overall rifle length that is a fraction of a traditional shotgun.

You don't think that weapon is a lot tougher to sneak into a theater than a glock?

If you follow the thread we were discussing something like the AK pistol variants that aren't really "pistols" but more snubbed down semi-auto rifles.

Sorry, I was still foolishly discussing the thread topic, and thus a more traditional handgun.
