Yes, Ryan made it perfectly clear that Revis hadn't been close to healthy until last week, when Jennings caught 1 ball for 11 yards against him.So what, is his coach going to say he is NOT "right"?

I know the league is competitive, and I sleep well at night, so that's all that matters. Maybe the rest of my team is garbage? Maybe not? Maybe this is a keeper league? Maybe not?just because you are trying to compete, it DOES NOT make it a competitive leagueslammedNo it isn't.Roddy is my wr1, calvin is my wr2, fitz is my wr3 who i picked up for a bag of chips due to a frustrated owner. This is a competitive 12 team league where I can only start 2 WR.
He looked rusty in the first half but got better and better as the game went on. Calvin should have actually had another 60 yard TD at the end of the first half. Lions had called a pass play on 3rd and short with short WR routes .... it was a broken play and Stafford began to scramble, Calvin caught the coverage sleeping and slipped about 10-15 yards behind. Stafford saw him but he was so open he put way too much arch on the throw and combined with being underthrown, allowed the coverage to close the huge gap.I wasn't able to watch last weekends game, but did catch the CJ highlights. From the looks and sounds of things Stafford managed to knock off most of the rust already, which bodes well for Calvin given his success without him. How did Stafford look overall?Oh, and another vote for bench Calvin at your own peril.
I love the guy (Revis), but probably the closest player to Calvin Johnson Revis saw last year was Vincent Jackson in the playoffs. The Jets won and Jackson didn't score, but he went 7 for 111. Even Revis has his limits, especially if he is going to be left alone on a guy as big and fast as Calvin. All the people who are enthusiastically starting CJ with no qualms have completely lost sight of how good a healthy Revis was last year. He shut down every receiver that he faced, only conceding 2 TDs: one on a busted coverage to Ted Ginn, and one on a 1 yard pass to Moss. If a healthy 2010 Revis is as good as 2009 Revis, and his holdout didn't diminish his skills, then this matchup will be a problem for CJ. Last year, Revis shut down Roddy White, AJ,Moss, Colston, T.O, Ochocinco, VJax, Steve Smith, and Reggie Wayne (although Wayne did the best against him, and actually dropped a few passes). Last week, Revis certainly looked as good as he did last season and if that's the case, I'd be worried as a CJ owner. I might still start him just because of sheer volume of targets, but it's not a clear slam-dunk.
The rest of your team may suck yes. It's more about getting Larry freaking Fitzgerald for a bag of chips as you said. I don't care who his QB is you don't give him away for nothing.I know the league is competitive, and I sleep well at night, so that's all that matters. Maybe the rest of my team is garbage? I never said he was. I said Revis wasn't healthy until last week. The only sample of a healthy Revis we have is week 1 when he didn't allow a completion, and last week, where he allowed one.Yes, Ryan made it perfectly clear that Revis hadn't been close to healthy until last week, when Jennings caught 1 ball for 11 yards against him.So what, is his coach going to say he is NOT "right"?Jennings is NOT == CALVIN

I don't remember all of VJ's catches, but I know he had a 40 yard catch (and then kicked a challenge flag) and he wasn't being guarded by Revis on that play.Holy Schneikes said:I love the guy (Revis), but probably the closest player to Calvin Johnson Revis saw last year was Vincent Jackson in the playoffs. careful. Calvin has been guilty of being "lionized" from time to time and his willingness to play banged up has been questioned before. Granted this season he has been a uber-beastCJ will be the first WR to officially own Revvis to the tune of 100+ and at least one TD. Calvin is simply a better athlete and physical specimen than Revvis, and unlike Moss, Calvin cares.
Is he a much better physical specimen than Andre Johnson too? Because AJ had 4 catches for 35 yards against Revis.CJ will be the first WR to officially own Revvis to the tune of 100+ and at least one TD. Calvin is simply a better athlete and physical specimen than Revvis, and unlike Moss, Calvin cares.
Yes, he is. CJ has the best physical tools of any WR in the league. Whether that means he has a big game against Revis remains to be seen.Is he a much better physical specimen than Andre Johnson too? Well, you probably have a very good team. With the amount of bye weeks this week, it's hard to imagine too many people with 12 teams or more in their leagues who have 3 to 4 better options than Calvin Johnson.Calvin Johnson WILL be covered. It's all about will the Lions go do him anyway and be willing to take the bad with the good in terms of possible picks or incompletions. To me, the alternative is to go to the run game on a consistent basis and I don't think that's going to go real well against the Jets.If you tell me now that the Lions score 21 points, I find it hard to imagine CJ doesn't have 1 of them. If they are held to 10 or 13, then he could have a day where he gets 55 yards and no Td's.probably benching him
I like the logic here.....So time to bench Calvin? Megatron has been on fire.
I don't know... "Revis Island" doesn't seem so scary this season. Man got paid, man got dinged, spends more time flappin' his gums than anything else.Calvin Owner here... despite being deep at WR... and I am playing him without a thought about it.If Revis is "right" and 100%, you bench Calvin. Period.
This is the ticket, it really depends on how the Jets handle him. If they go one on one, Calvin will get his, no doubt in my mind. However, if they put Revis on him and give help over the top, off the line then the Jets could defnately hamper Johnson. But after the game, I hope everyone doesn't beat on their chest and say Revis owned Johnson if that's not what happened. I love it more when people say those things when they don't even watch the game.If the Jets choose to cover Calvin one-on-one (no matter who they use), they will get torched
There hasn't been a team in 3 years that had the balls (stupidity) to match anyone 1-1 with Calvin. I'd love to see the Jets give it a shot.If the Jets choose to cover Calvin one-on-one (no matter who they use), they will get torched
he's notIf a healthy 2010 Revis is as good as 2009 Revis,
Based on? In the 2 games he's been healthy against Baltimore and GB he's given up one completion for 11 yards.he's notIf a healthy 2010 Revis is as good as 2009 Revis,
I don't think this is an accurate post in a few ways:1) "Revis has been a shell of himself". Not really accurate. The Jets aren't blitzing nearly as much this year. Last year, they lined up Revis in a lockdown mode and threw the house at the QB. This year, they've rushed a more standard rush and dialed back the pressure on WR's at the line of scrimmage. I think Ryan adjusted to people watching the Jets D in the offseason. So, instead of holding a WR to 2 catches for 13 yds....now Revis is more likely for 4-5 catches, 45-50 yds in a bend but don't break way. Not because Revis can't be a shutdown corner. That's ludicrous to think.2) Jets are running 51% of the time this year. Last year, they ran the ball far, far more than anyone else in football. I think with Sanchez being shaky the last 2 games, you may see them dial back and pound it more now....but that hasn't been the case to this point in 2010.Revis has been a shell of himself this year, when compared to last year. In other words, he isn't the shut down corner he was 12 months ago. With that said, I don't think Revis (or Cromartie) can shut down Calvin, however, I think the aggressive NYJ scheme can put immense pressure on Stafford and force him into poor passes. Coupled with NY's ball control offense, may not give the Stafford to Calvin connection enough opportunities to have a solid day. Regardless, I don't see how you can bench Calvin.
How about the safety over the top? We all know "Revis Island" has a free safety patrolling the shore line..That's why I would bench Calvin if Revis is 100% right.. because that plus a safety will shut him down.Addai said:Revis can not jump as high as Calvin. That's all you need to know.
This should be Bramel's article this week - bracket coverage, what kind of coverage the Jets use, etc. It will be interesting to see what the Jets do and how effective, if at all, it is. I suspect they use some bracket coverage, regardless of how healthy Revis is. Calvin is, after all, a great talent and the Jets would like to win this game. Doing so gives them the best shot. This is the ticket, it really depends on how the Jets handle him. If they go one on one, Calvin will get his, no doubt in my mind. However, if they put Revis on him and give help over the top, off the line then the Jets could defnately hamper Johnson. FLORHAM PARK – When Calvin Johnson puts on a show, as he did with three touchdown catches against Washington last weekend, the NFL freezes in awe of his skill.
Countless "SportsCenter" mentions. End-of-season highlight packages will contain plenty of plays featuring the Detroit Lions' standout wide receiver, the target of hyperbole from the Jets as they prepare to shut him down.
"One of the premier receivers in the game – a young talented guy, big [and] fast, I mean it should be illegal to have a guy that big and fast and talented," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "But he's going against the best this week."
The beauty of Darrelle Revis at his best has been his ability to neutralize playmakers by turning seemingly unstoppable talent one week into a stunning non-factor the next.
The Revis Island vs. Megatron showdown is an intriguing subplot Sunday at Detroit's Ford Field, and there's no question what happens between the Jets' All-Pro cornerback and the Lions' all-world wideout ultimately could determine which side commands the positive headlines afterward.
"The NFL is all about matchups, but matchups like this don't happen every week," Jets safety Jim Leonhard said. "One of the best corners – we feel like he is the best – against one of the best receivers, and they probably feel like he is the best with what he brings to their team.
"It's going to be a battle, play in and play out, one that you're going to watch as a fan."
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Johnson has 6 inches and 40 pounds on Revis, who is finally 100 percent recovered from the strained hamstring injury that has nagged him all season.
Revis is "eager" to match wits with Johnson; that is, provided the Jets decide to have him follow the latter all over the field. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and Ryan suggested there will be schemes that call for Antonio Cromartie – an established corner and former Pro Bowler in his own right – to man up against Johnson.
"We're going to be us," Pettine said. "The strength of what we do is to mix our looks and present different things. We're going to make it hard to get the quarterbacks and receivers on the same page."
From what he has seen on tape, Revis lauded Johnson for his size, speed and physicality. Asked if Johnson is as physical as Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin, Revis said he would find out Sunday.
"I've never played him in person," Revis said of Johnson, the NFC Offensive Player of the Week with 38 receptions for 538 yards and eight TDs this season. "I played against Anquan and I played against Andre [Johnson], so I'll have to tell you guys that after the game. Why would I be concerned about somebody's size? I have a number of guys who have been huge wide receivers, you know: Andre Johnson, Randy [Moss], Brandon [Marshall] – there are a number of guys that are big."
Meanwhile, Johnson is well aware Revis has earned his big-time reputation.
"You make plays in this league you get a good rep," Johnson said. "Everyone's building it up, so it's going to be a good little game, a good little showdown."
Other than a handful of compliments from each side, Johnson and Revis have opted to leave the hype to just about everybody else, at least until they see each other on the field Sunday.

Interesting, thanks for that bit of info as I hadn't heard or seen that yet. Assuming Stafford's arm is anywhere near 100% I doubt he makes that mistake again. Detroit has a solid young team; if a were a fan I'd be cautiously optimistic. He looked rusty in the first half but got better and better as the game went on.
